  • In this video, I'll be breaking down some simple yet effective footwork patterns that will significantly improve your ability to make precise adjustments at the net. Many players excel at hitting volleys when the ball is perfectly placed, but the real challenge lies in adapting to awkward positions.

Unlikely. There’s definitely some pros I could help but I think he’s doing just fine haha.

    Great minds think alike!😊
I discovered this by myself recently while practicing volleys. A tiny step/pivot with the outside foot as the first move .

Great stuff! I found myself getting jammed at the net the other day. I'll be sure to implement this footwork next time for volleys coming straight at me.

I have tendency to step backwards with outside leg to make space when ball coming at my body fast. Even on ground strokes. Is this bad? Great video will try these patterns.

I'm glad you showed the foot sliding behind the front foot when the ball comes right at you...this is pretty much exclusively what I do when confronted with that shot.
How do you get players that don't have very good footwork at the net to develop it? These are typically players that won't come in unless they absolutely have to...like 3.0 to 3.5 level...they are 3.0 and 3.5 precisely because of their lack of proper footwork, but it's hard to get them to realize it or if the do realize it, it's like trying to teach Rocky Balboa to be a ballet dancer!

Very helpful. I generally just think about moving forwards towards the ball when volleying which doesn't work so well when it's coming right at you and doesn't always get me turned correctly. Will have a go and see how I get on.

Really helpful, thank you! I find I often step too early with my front foot on my backhand volley, so I'll try synchronization rather than landing later on my front foot.

Great advice. I always use too much of my arm and mess up my volleys. I think it's what you pointed out about slower balls and trying to rush getting to the ball, but I always get there too early and lose all the momentum. I'll definitely try to time it better and use the off foot first.

Love this - I had never heard or thought of the bit about stepping diagonally even when getting out of the way of the ball.
