  • In 2003 the classic MG The Legend film documentary told the story behind one of Britains most successful motor manufacturers, MG. Now in 2022, this special feature shows that the cars are as popular today as they were when they left the historic MG Rover factory in Longbridge. Former BBC Top Gear, Wheeler Dealers, Car SOS and The Garage producer/director Jamie Langton shares the story behind his MGZS 180 project car. The music was commissioned especially for the 'Legend' series of classic car documentaries to world acclaimed film and TV composer, Garry Judd. www.garryjudd.com/

Oh yes! Here another 'kid on Christmas day'... I have a British racing green ZS 180 MK1. These MGs are fantastic.

I just bought a ZS. After mine only 3 more rolled off the line. Converted from 1.8 to a v6, tweaked and dyno'ed at 208 bhp and 278Nm, polybushed and lowered suspension, what a machine. Both to look at and to drive

Lovely car. Such a tragedy what happened to MG Rover

The head lining in my Rover 45 was all sagging just like yours. However, instead of replacing it, I removed it and after cleaning and preparing the roof i then painted it with a matt grey paint the same as the interior of the car and it looks just like the original, only it will never become saggy again. 👍😊

What a beautiful car. The mg ZS was a great car. It was based on an old design but that design was still competitive because the fundamentals were sound to start with. Would love to own another ZS.

I have on in the same colour, had mine for 18 years now, got it from new in 2005. Some work needed to do on mine as it is showing its age, been learning to do all types of work as never done anything like this before. My best acheivement so far is respraying the bootlid

I re-badged mine to XPower. People would stop and ask what it was! 😍

I'm really happy to see these cars getting the love they now deserve and youve done a fabulous job of this one, I've got one the same 180 trophy blue as your first one which I'd purchased when it was 2 years old, being only 21 at the time I thought my dreams had come true and as the same as u as soon as they had released the zs 180 I wanted one😂 im soon to think about getting the dreaded cambelts done on mine, my zs is in very good condition with 90% of common faults solved but after watching your video it's inspiring me to do more with it to get it to showroom condition thankyou for sharing your experience and hope to see it at the next pride of longbridge👍🏻

Thanks for your kind comments. They really are great cars and it’s good to hear from like minded people who cherish theirs as much as I do mine.

I really enjoyed your film on your stunning car. I had a yellow Mk 1 MG ZR 110 Diesel in Yellow and I happened to be passing the dealership in Inverness on the way to Glasgow for a meeting the next day and spotted a stunning car I felt I must own. They pulled out all the stops and I completed my Journey in a nearly new MG ZS 180 in XPower Grey with the wing. I still think it is one of my favourite cars I have ever owned. I sometimes think I should invest in another one and regret selling it but at the time I was living on an island where fuel costs were high and I only got 5 miles to the Litre in mine at the time so it was sold. Great car sadly missed to this day.

I have differing views on the facelift MG Zeds. For me the ZR and ZT look better pre-facelift BUT the ZS facelift just works. Love the 'gills' on the side!

I have 2 180s. Hatch in BRG and a saloon in Mono Sunspot. Had a trophy blue one a few years ago. Regret selling it.

Wow your zs is stunning. Hopefully going to the next pride of Longbridge with my shed of a 180 lol but it works. It's very hard these days too keep a car like this running let alone your one. My hat is off to you sir.

Many thanks for your kind comments. Regardless of condition they’re a pleasure to own and drive, and to see on the road. Good luck with yours, will hopefully be at Pride of Longbridge again myself.

    Great video Jamie.
In the early 90s, I too had a 280 that I used to show.
I also have a late TF, a LE500 amongst other MGR cars and after watching this I made the decision to push the button on a late 180 saloon I'd been considering.
I remember admiring your car at POL last year.
Hope to see you there this year.
    David.

Just watched your video, outstanding car, lovely colour 💙
Coz I am now looking for one, facelift version that is. I think the mk2 grill blends in better. Previously looking at Rover 25/45 but the boy racer in me (1959) says MGZS 🚙💨💨

Been offered a black 180 mk2 for £500. A nice little project. But I already have 3 cars so don’t know what to do 😬
