  • The MG ZS 180 is a car that I haven't never been that excited about, but it turned out a lot better than I was expecting.

I love the MG ZS any ZS in fact, tome it's a shame rover didn't MG the 45 and 25 predecessors. Ford did as did GM. The vauxhall Carlton was a bit of an old man's car back in the day then it had some lotus wizardry and became very popular..Back to MG Rover the Z series was an attempt to sell more cars to an wider audience at the time. Yes it's an old dog in a new skirt but they drive really well in my view. A very under rated car back in the day.
Ignition and Trophy blue are my favourite Rover paints. Very nice

Got a brake light out mate - never give them an excuse!👮‍♂️
A great little skateboard - a car for driving, not posing. Who cares about the plastics so long as the steering wheel doesn't fall off 🤩

😂😂😂 I think you’re spot on with the comparison of the backend/boot and Carol Vorderman derrière 👍🏻

They're a fabulous looking car , great stance and look very purposeful.
Agree on the rear spoiler, bit too much overkill for me, but maybe an attempt to give it a touring car look?
Probably the best application of the 2.5 V6 too, fair bit lighter than a ZT and nearly as much power.
18 MPG is shocking tho , I was getting more than that out of 5 litre V8 S-classes.
Still wouldn't put me off buying one though, judging by the amount of fun you were having in it 👍

Brilliant, loved the Carol comparison! Furious Driving would call the spoiler a terrific Tea Shelf.

A great example of what MG/Rover did best. With a very limited budget, reinvent an ageing product into something new. Not sure about that spoiler though! Engine sounds mean.

Yeah, the vroom-vroom is exactly the reason my fuel bill is less than ideal. If I drive my mk1 sensibly, I can get 35-36mpg out of it. More often than not, though, it's closer to 26-27mpg, and...I can live with that. Only slight hair in the ointment is that mine's just blown a hole in the thermostat, which is helpfully nestled in the middle of the V. Good ol' Birmingham engineering - not only shoving a 2.5l V6 into a space designed for a 1.8l 4-pot, they had to rearrange everything so that it's all in the most awkward place possible. Still, I wouldn't trade it for anything...you just can't get cars at any price that can really replace the ZS 180 these days (and I've tried, with far bigger budgets).

The Zeds were styled by Peter Stevens who also did the Impreza WRC cars and the blob eye Impreza. Now you know why and who to blame for the Sushi shelf on the boot. I think it looks fab - better than the pre-facelift and I’d love a hoon in one.

I hadn't realised the connection to scoobies until now but I like what Mr Stevens did. My much lamented ZS was a pre-face lift and a modest 120. I absolutely loved thar car, but had to part with it when money was tight very stupidly. Would love another if I can ever raise the funds. I'll never buy another for £104 though.

People laugh at my Zs180 but I enjoy every time I start it so I don't really care what they think
It's a pity they didn't just improve the built quality of them between water leaks, headliner and door cards to name a few.....

I drove my car home 550 miles it done 33mpg

interesting. I've never driven an MG ZS180 and whilst the idea of it seems appealing, I don't think I'd enjoy the reality of it day to day. Probably much like Carol Vordeman.

  • @windymiller5058

I think this was a very interesting tactic from MG Rover, make a car with everything that will appeal to its 5th owner. Cover it in the sort of stuff a young buck would spend his Christmas Halfords vouchers on right from the off. The big wing was a bit incongruous though familiar from Evos and ScoobyDoos and the Alfa 156 but the vents in the wing are something really quite daring and unexpected. Overall though it’s a bit of a confused mess from a marketing perspective because it’s target market was spending all its money ruining the dwindling supply of Renault 5 GT Turbos and didn’t have enough for a brand new car that looked a bit like grandads motor. I don’t think this car is Carol Vorderman, I think it’s Jordan/Katie Price.

I prefer the number plate recessed in the bumper.
It never looked good on the boot of the 45/400 and it let the car down imo.

If you only get 18mpg out of a KV6 something is wrong.
We've had a lot of KV6 MG ZT's and Rover 75's over the years and most of them easily achieve an average of 30mpg and almost 40mpg on longer journeys.
Only our ZS180 tracktoy does around 18mpg and that's always being driven at 110%.

    • @ProjectNigel
      @ProjectNigel  10 месяцев назад

Annoyingly the rear spoiler does actually work at stabilising the rear at high speeds, a surprising amount of effort was put into the design of it, shame it looks a bit Max Power

  • @Finnthedude

Would a pre facelift bootlid and rear bumper fit on this? If so that would fix that ugly rear end. Agree about that spoiler, never liked that type on any car.

I find it frustrating and annoying the way 'Project Drive' steadily diminished the quality of Rover cars. 😠 I could have made a suggestion that would've saved money yet not spoilt the cars: Gather together all the cronies who came up with Project Drive together with those who thought it a good idea, wrap them all up in a saggy headlining and sack the lot of them! Ahhh, that's better!😄
