the reality is even with that stupid high price, they lose money in every one they sell. VW really dropped the ball when they decided to ride the diesel wave after the dieselgate, if they had took Tesla serious and developed proper EV platforms they would not be in this sad state, the worst software and the worst value for money in EV
Having such a short frontal area means much less shock absorption capacity, resulting in a dramatically reduced passenger protection. Same for the third row seat passengers. A few years ago I was driving my Golf GTI on a highway and there was a sudden traffic slow down and I was rear ended by a big sedan and I'm happy I had no one on the back seats because the rear bumper was literally against the back of my seat. Had I had rear passengers, they would have been crushed to death.

Totally agree about the lights Thomas, I’m genuinely impressed with the functionality of that vehicle! Great review
I also wish they had the rounded headlights. But I wish they had brought a few of the features from their California over like the rail system for the seats to make layout a bit more configurable.
perfect for weekend trips to alps or mediterranean... I still hoped GTX would have a bit more upscale interior than it is, for the normal versions yes, it/s perfectly fine utilitarian choice of materials and assembly in general, but on GTX especially with two-tone exterior I/d love to see that level of sportiness that it already is, but bit better in terms of overall coverage with upper scale materials
Thanks for a great review. With the new updated software with pre-heating of the battery is there also a better solution for keeping the heating on for longer time than 30min? I.e. for camper / dog mode?
Nice van and I enjoyed the review. Let's hope the prices of EVs come out of the stratosphere soon. Getting people into them will convert many to electric propulsion. One of these with a real world 200+ mile range would be a good start.
The prices are still a little mad. The e-berlingo is £29-33k so almost half the price with a 200(160) mile range. The buzz is pretty but Vw are really bad value

We have a non-GTX short Buzz, and are happy with most features on it, including the lights. Functional lights are important during Nordic winters, so I would not want retro styling that compromises safety. The towing capacity of the GTX short version = 1800 kg is now almost up to the capacity of our Citroën Evasion = 1900 kg.
Agree with wanting more rounded lights, but liking the GTX specs. I am excited about seeing more reviews on this model but I am afraid that this thing is going to be like 80k in the US...
Give us Porsche houndstooth fabric or hatched fabric from the older gti. Also would be great to upgrade the tray table to premium build with rear heated and massage seats. They should also allow you to build your own interior by selling components that clip into floor tracks. People could custom order their interiors components.
I really love these (although I *really* wish they'd put round lights on the front for a more retro look). My only complaint is I wish they did a more luxury trim level with nicer internal materials - much less hard plastic and more soft touch, padding, leather etc. Looking at this from the perspective of a BMW or Range Rover owner looking for something electric that's better for kids and it all looks a bit cheap inside.
@@cbotten106 That’s why I said looking at it from the perspective of a BMW or Range Rover owner. I’d love a ‘luxury’ trim option that was 10-15k more but meant soft touch padding and leather and less hard plastic.
Finally enough horsepower to be of some interest. Its just so disappointing that the sunroof doesn't open for ventilation. That's one of the most important aspect of the retro bus. In fact, VW my have been the carmaker that introduced it, or at least popularized it.
There's so much investment in new ideas with VW EVs, as this vehicle proves, I would really prefer to go VW for my next company car in a couple of yrs, even after the current, brilliant, TM3LR, I have. Big hopes for the ID.3 next-gen models, but let's see what they can do with it, there're so many improvements that are desperately needed.
Not officially, but it is just four screws and one electric connector per seat that need to be loosened to remove it, if it’s the same as the current version (very likely). Takes five minutes and it is just as easy to remount.
Great stop advertising it in America and sell it. Make sure dealers don't mark them up over $10,000 above sticker either. Enough talk and time to come through. The Electrify America has been a joke also. Let's Go. Southern CA people love these and want them now.
Will the ‘Buzz’ have the defining VW minibus/MPV feature, that the sliding doors detach-fall off every time they’re opened after 40,000mi/46,000km? Won’t be a VW minibus if the doors stay on.
Saw the buzz in a camping show in Melbourne, love the form factor, but...VW don't get it, the mass market want cheap transport, legacy auto spending dollars on maintaining branding to attract brand loyalists is ok but ultimately the product tech is mediocre and price is poor value. EVs are such a radical change that even brand loyalists are looking around to compare the tech...
I like the 2 tone color combo looks really Nice end retro but futuristic at same time i would love to have this GTX version or any version but i can't afford it 😢😓😩 lol Nice fart music 😂
pls pay attention if you are considering to buy VW ID series. The car is nice, but there is a lot of issue. The car keep generating red/ yellow code that make the car not drivable (not able to start the car). I am HK 2024 ID4 owner, get the car this April. i have red code more than 4 times, back to service centre 4 times and still cannot solve the issue. I have towed my car twice in just 2 months, nearly half of the time the car is in the service centre... seems VW still cannot fix the issue probably.
@@autogefuehl my case is not the only one, there is many ID4 being towed in HK recently, and there is no solution at this moment. The service centre just updated our gateway software but seems didn't help. Many of us keep going to service centre to "reset" after having code, again and again... it's so annoying and time consuming....
@@autogefuehl The issue, mostly likely, is the software/hardware being crashed somehow, that make the 12V battery cannot be charged. Seems HK is the 1st lot of 2024 ID4 in market, but seems VAG cannot figure out how to solve it. It's just a reminder if you are considering the ID series, as they should be under same chasis/ hardware/ software.... At least, wait until they can totally solve that issue, otherwise you are purchasing a car which is not drivable....
@@autogefuehl yup, I’m in HK, and it’s somehow 12V dead but cannot charged up for unknown reason. The car can only be towed back to service centre, reset the computer and charged up the 12V to make the it run again. But it’s not a permanent solution, the code will come back in a period of time, like me, it comes almost every week when get back the car…
avery cool car, but 400 km range is not so much and its very expensive ofcourse. and I wish the vw ID models would have a panoramic roof that you can open. thats something I need in my car.
@@markbennett6658 Keep the sporty looks get better performance & better range then give me a call when prices come back from the stratosphere. Or keep the price and line it with luxury.
My grandfather had a 50-hp VW van in California in the early 1960s. I wanted to feel nostalgia for this new one. But VW has been replaced by innovative vehicles that did not exist then, such as dedicated camper vans from Fiat/Ram on one hand, and three row Kia minivans or SUVs on the other.
A VW bus isn't a VW bus unless you can hear the aircooled engine. Maybe VW could install a sound file of the aircooled engine that syncs with the speed of this vehicle? ;)
I find it a pitty that they don't, like BMW, offer on all platforms all engine types. It would be nice if the Buzz had a petrol, diesel and hybrid version as well. It would be sold much better. Now it is just a small niche product.

My only complaint is I wish they did a more luxury trim level with nicer internal materials - much less hard plastic and more soft touch, padding, leather etc. Looking at this from the perspective of a BMW or Range Rover owner looking for something electric that's better for kids and it all looks a bit cheap inside.
But if they made that vehicle the MSRP would be your first born child and $100,000.
@@cbotten106 That’s why I said looking at it from the perspective of a BMW or Range Rover owner. I’d love a ‘luxury’ trim option that was 10-15k more but meant soft touch padding and leather and less hard plastic.
Will this be for the Cargo too?
Finally enough horsepower to be of some interest. Its just so disappointing that the sunroof doesn't open for ventilation. That's one of the most important aspect of the retro bus. In fact, VW my have been the carmaker that introduced it, or at least popularized it.
There's so much investment in new ideas with VW EVs, as this vehicle proves, I would really prefer to go VW for my next company car in a couple of yrs, even after the current, brilliant, TM3LR, I have. Big hopes for the ID.3 next-gen models, but let's see what they can do with it, there're so many improvements that are desperately needed.
nice shaggin' wagon! 😁
Also helps in picking up the ladies for the shaggin looking so cool 😂
What’s the range from 80% to 20% at 120km/h on the motorway?
Hi Thomas, is it possible to take out the middle 2 seats in the LWB version 6 seater ?
Not officially, but it is just four screws and one electric connector per seat that need to be loosened to remove it, if it’s the same as the current version (very likely). Takes five minutes and it is just as easy to remount.
Which is the fastest the speed? Or use of battery.
We are ready for the camper-version... Bring it on, VW.
Absolutely LOVE IT ❤
This is so nice-- when is the US release date?🎉
Great stop advertising it in America and sell it. Make sure dealers don't mark them up over $10,000 above sticker either. Enough talk and time to come through. The Electrify America has been a joke also. Let's Go. Southern CA people love these and want them now.
It would be more stylish if the rear taillights were vertical from bottom to top.
Will the ‘Buzz’ have the defining VW minibus/MPV feature, that the sliding doors detach-fall off every time they’re opened after 40,000mi/46,000km? Won’t be a VW minibus if the doors stay on.
.....Love the Pro Id Buzz, such a great family car, good work Volkswagen and btw lovely video as well Autogefuehl.....
thanks keep tuning in !
What a pity that the 2nd seats can’t be turned around like in the Multivan. If it did, I would buy it right away!
Great overview
Really like the ID Buzz
When is the camper version coming?
Oh, we all want to know that. It's like waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. The brave among us will even check the price out when it does.
Your command of mathematics at 11.10 is very impressive - you must have studied at a Max Planck Institute;) (I apologise for my British humour).
=)
I need one. Long wheel base cargo van
Think I want one. Better get saving! 💰
This is what ID BUZZ should have always been. I think the RWD LWB Style will be the pick of the range though.
the augmented HUD is a new festure, isnt it?
Great! Anything that gets flutes out of their stupid blacked-out, slammed, diesel T6 is a win in my book.
Hurrah.
Does this have the updated infotainment system and backlit buttons?
Yup
The logo is retro?
This vehicle is amazing. Really want one of these. Not bothered about GTX. Dashboard has cheap feel to it.
Price is too much
They really should've sold both wheelbases in the US.
Nah, those Americans don't need all those confusing choices.
I have towed my car twice in just 2 months, nearly half of the time the car is in the service centre... seems VW still cannot fix the issue probably.
ohh thats awful to hear! Please keep us updated on this one!
Thanks 🙏 so ure in hongkong? The issue is that the 12V battery goes dead at some point?
@@autogefuehl yup, I’m in HK, and it’s somehow 12V dead but cannot charged up for unknown reason. The car can only be towed back to service centre, reset the computer and charged up the 12V to make the it run again. But it’s not a permanent solution, the code will come back in a period of time, like me, it comes almost every week when get back the car…
Very nice, but like most electric cars they’re far too expensive and would take you 5-10 years to break even against a combustion equivalent
avery cool car, but 400 km range is not so much and its very expensive ofcourse. and I wish the vw ID models would have a panoramic roof that you can open. thats something I need in my car.
I my area I see VW Buzz only in showrooms, but not on the roads.
At these prices it might take a while to get a whole lot of them on the road.
Well ! We need RTX version!
Das ist ein guter Van
Basic id buzz 70k plus in Ireland , there’s none on the road. Should have been a 6/7 seater from the start.
I absolutely love this car. I hope it takes off.
I love it❤😊
The only good looking ID out there!
Price?
For the size of the vehicle the battery size is really disappointing.
Better performance without the sporty looks would be more appealing.
Better range without the sporty looks would be even better?
@@markbennett6658 Keep the sporty looks get better performance & better range then give me a call when prices come back from the stratosphere. Or keep the price and line it with luxury.
Volkswagen isnt able to deliver waterproof slidewindows in the sliding doors, and now they are making them electric. Im in fear of...
VW needs to provide a swb version with 2-3-2 seating. I don't get why they would compromise space for 1 extra seat, it's really stupid
A VW bus isn't a VW bus unless you can hear the aircooled engine. Maybe VW could install a sound file of the aircooled engine that syncs with the speed of this vehicle? ;)
Wowww thats looks like the worst financial decision ever! I like it though
I find it a pitty that they don't, like BMW, offer on all platforms all engine types. It would be nice if the Buzz had a petrol, diesel and hybrid version as well. It would be sold much better. Now it is just a small niche product.
