- Plus LATE FOR DINNER and BLOOD & CONCRETE in this '91 episode.
Note the bulk of my own recordings from the prior 18 months were mostly lost so that explains the gap between these shows -- the Siskelebert.org website has many of the shows from that period (in the event that site goes down I do have backups of them, but I will only upload them there if that ever happens!). As a reminder, if you're looking for the latest home video reviews -- from Blu-Rays of classic catalog titles to the latest releases -- be sure to check out my own review site at www.andyfilm.com
I just saw Dogfight from the Criterion Collection and it made me tear up. It is such a great movie and a hidden gem somehow. I hope it will get the recognition it deserves. Also Lili Taylor and River Phoenix - its performances like these that remind me why I love cinema.
Dogfight is an underrated classic...should have gotten more notice than it did. Stands with River Phoenix's best work.
something felt missing to me. Brilliant performance by Lili Taylor though. River seemed uncomfortable so I didn't really enjoy his performance or it just wasn't a good enough film for him?
@@joycegibbs5267 the point of his character WAS that he was uncomfortable.
Ebert completely owned Siskel on Dogfight. The ending is the best part of the film.
to me the ending gives hope... when i first watched the movie i was glad he made it back home and them meeting with the hi's and the hug between them isnt overly sentimental... siskel was very wrong on that account. again it gives hope that they can maybe have a life together or even a strong bond.
Loved Dog fight.
Just finished the Criterion of Dogfight. Ebert is dead on about the ending. It succinctly leaves the right gut punch of a punctuation point to the story. The film is a real gem. I love Siskel, but he knew Ebert got him on this.
My reviews
Dogfight (two thumbs up)
Late for Dinner (two thumbs up)
Rambling Rose (two thumbs up)
Blood and Concrete (two thumbs down)!
Siskel gave no good reason not to like “Dogfight,” imo
i havent seen rambling rose in years. i remember it being unique... i might have to revisit it
The graphic is wrong for Dogfight the thumbs are switched
I noticed that too!
How the hell did that happen?
Aw man sorry about your lost tapes! I was looking forward to uploads from the summer of ‘91 including City Slickers, Jungle Fever, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead, Double Impact, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man and Dead Again ( which they had a great big disagreement over) but thanks for these!
Look up the user Eric Haynes on RUclips. He has posted City Slickers and some other lost reviews that he had saved from the old Buena Vista web site. Also, reply to one of his videos with your requests. He has downloaded about 800 reviews and has been posting my requests. Most of what he has is 1992 and earlier but those are the ones you're naming. There's a good chance he has a lot of those to post.
@@jedijones Thanks!
Look up a channel called "That Old TV" it's also dedicated to full episodes of Siskel & Ebert from his own collection.
@@SaintMartins I'm watching that channel right now! 😊
@@jedijones get out of here!!! Thanks a lot!!
Dogfight is tough to dive into but I think it is a worthwhile film to invest time in.
I see they reviewed 28 Up. The most recent instalment was 63 Up. Sadly, two of the people featured have died (Lynn and Nick) and so has Michael Apted, who was involved in the project from the start.
Was this their first show with the Blue set?
It actually debuted on the August 31, 1991 episode.
@@livingincolor just about 30 years in a week and a half
I begin to truly wonder at how Siskel tolerated Ebert.
Yeah... He wouldn't let up about Dogfight.
You have them switched around
This episode is missing from the siskelebert web site.
Found it!
I hope it doesn't either. I own the other site. Good idea! People keep telling me of your channel, and it is great!
As usual, completely gives away the whole plot of the movie. Spoiler alert, andyfilm, hmmm?
Blood and Concrete was a Tarantino rip-off before Tarantino rip-offs were a thing.
Tarantino has no voice.
@@ricardocantoral7672 ok..he only revolutioned film technique since Pulp Fiction
I actually liked this movie , I remember recording it on the VCR, Lord, remember those
Darren McGavin was very good
@@kd17Burger yes McGavin was good in everything and the film does have a nice look.
@@kd17Burger By sampling from numerous directors.
