Subaru if you are watching this please bring the baja back. The market for Ute in USA is growing. Edit: Subaru is planning on make a ute for north America.
There is one around where I live, owner managed to find and put a topper on it( someone made those), yeah he bought SW based ute and turned it back into SW
I was taking a walk and one of these drove by, and I was surprised to see it had a truck bed, since the vehicle is so low to the ground! I instantly has to look up "Subaru truck", and now knowing it's name, man Baja is very fitting, it do be Baja Haha love the way you said "mid-gate" in this review XD
The sad part is that 2006 Subaru Baja is far more functional than the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Fe. It is rugged, beefy, and all that protection to keep it from being scratched up and wrecked. Sucks they don't make that any more, it was way too far ahead of its time. Back then, the Ford F-150 could have been had brand new for $18K, the Ford Ranger was about also a lot cheaper too. Now, the F-150 is a nearly $60K truck and the Maverick/Santa Fe are about $40K once all said and done.
I really wouldn't say that, the other two have their benefits too. The Maverick is only a bit bigger than my current Crosstrek in every dimension, yet it gets nearly 40 miles to the gallon. My only worry is the time testing on these things
They are coming back Ford Maverick and rumored Toyota stout Subaru should bring back the Baja with it's original body like this without outback and legacy.
So many small cars here. The problem here is truck buyers only want big trucks. This is something to attract people who aren't really big truck people. Also objectively loads of people are not a fan of this in the looks department.
Supposed to be the successor of the Brat.. no it's not it's not built like a brat, 1 shorter bed, 2 four doors, 3. It's Built based on the Legacy. Brat was a 2dr longer bed, built on the l series chasis which would be the Impreza today.. Don't get me wrong I love the Baja, hope to get another one soon..
It was weird back then but it was ahead of its time. Ford can't build Mavericks fast enough. Hyundai is doing all right with the Santa Cruz. GM is coming out with a new electric Avalanche with a midgate, though for some reason they're calling it a Silverado. The Maverick is basically a Bronco Sport with a short bed so imagine if Subaru came out with a new Baja with a Wilderness trim. These are rare but their owners love them. Early Range Rovers had a fold-down plate because they were intended to be used for work. The fold-down plate was common on early station wagons. On the Ford woodie wagon Tyler Hoover used to own there was a tube that folded the plate down automatically with the tailgate.
Looking into buying a Baja to build a sound system. Anyone know roughly how much room you have in that area where he folds up the back seat (before he lays down the other half)? Looks almost perfect for an upward firing sub box !
I've been trying to find a 06 sport for such a long time for reasonable price I've have considered spending the 10 grand on one that has a 200,000 mi on it
So, fun fact... I had a Toyota Tacoma and after I sold it I bought this thing. Oh, and I have new rear struts for it waiting to go on it.

Those Baja Wilderness pictures and articles were a troll by Subaru. It's not actually going to be released.
Please no horrible CVTs, give us a manual.
@@wigletron2846 ok we will see next year if they are true or not.
@@WildWildWeasel it might go cvt. Nissan still offers versa with a 5 speed manual for 23 model year it's only the base model.
@@WilliamHollinger2019 it's not. A quick google search and the first result talks about how it's not real.
my friend had a pool party in the back of a subaru baja with a couple of beers, a garden hose, and a tarp. Life is good with friends and Subarus.
The Baja was very ahead of its time. Now it would be a good time to bring it back, and have it compete against the Maverick, Santa Fe etc
You gotta do a Subaru Brat next if there are any still on the road. My friend had one over 10 years ago and it was a hoot.
I’ve done one! A 1987

My absolute favorite car. Love Subaru, love the unique look and features, great review. Thank you

omg I have waited for this review for so long
8:18 after all these years I never realized it’s just a legacy with a bed in the back lol
A friend of mine used to have a yellow 2006 Baja, always loved that thing, but he sold it.
The handling of a truck combined with the utility of a small car
Official car of "I KNOW WHAT I HAVE"
It's kind of like those Australian Utes. I guess the obsession of big car in North America is just kill a lot of innovative ideas.

At 5:44 if that helps
Subarute. There I said it.
I love the Baja, its like a 4 dose Ute!
Subaru should bring back the Baja since Ford, Hyundai has a car like pickup and soon Toyota going to have one calls the Stout.

Where are you located? I came across a super nice one today with about 125k miles.
Dude, is that video made in Mount Prospect IL?
Did that come from the factory with mixed metal door trim and fake wood dash trim?
No, I changed the dash trim. The stock stuff was broken.
Does anyone know that the 05 and 06 Baja's have the head Gasket issues that nearly all 04 and prior Subarus had?
They do
@@1988MowerMan Good to know
The four seater Ute
i want one of these so bad
I love these
Hello! How tall are you? I am trying to get a idea of how well the cars you review fit my dad. Thanks! (:
I think in one of his previous reviews he mentioned he was 5'11.
Yup, 5’11
Thank you!
Why did you do this upload at this time 10 pm or midnight in central time
This was uploaded at 1am here on Eastern standard time
Subaru WILL NOT bring a suv/truck/ute crossover anytime soon 😢😢😢
I’m not sure why these didn’t sell well???? Probably was too costly it’s probably got pick up syndrome overpriced,
Friends. Don’t let friends. Drive Subarus.
These things go for way more money than they should, those 2.5 engines blow head gaskets like there's no tomorrow
