My last combat tour was in Afghanistan (2010-2011) attached to a Special Forces ODA. I had to give up the Mk 11 Mod 0 rifle I had been using out of Jalalabad when I went up to the mountains. I asked the team Weapons Sergeant for a long gun, and he reached into the Conex box and handed me a National Match M14. It had a glassed-in stock/action, heavy barrel, 1/4 moa hooded aperture sights, and I FELL IN LOVE. I had competed years before as part of the CA-ARNG Rifle Team carrying nearly the same weapon. I also own a SA Loaded M1A at home. I put on a Bushnell Elite 3200 scope with target turrets and a Mil-Dot reticle (10x fixed) very similar to using an issue Leopold M3A (as far as sight picture but lacking the BDC turrets). I also added a PEQ-15 IR designator, which I bore sighted then fine-tuned to 500M so that I could hit accurately at night using my AN-PVS-14 night vision monocular on my helmet. I was still a bit jealous of the ODA shooters, they both sported Accuracy International .338 Lapuas, and could definitely reach out farther than I could by a country mile, but I could place consistent torso size hits at 800M day and night. Good enough for me. I'm an older Soldier, and something about the Old School M14 fit me like a glove. LOVE that rifle. SSG. U.S. Army (Medically Retired) Infantry / Sniper / SOF Intel (SOT-A), multiple tours
I wanted one for many, many years. Then I got one back in 2010, the "loaded" model with a few upgrades, California legal. The instruction manual made a BIG DEAL about how the rifle did NOT come sighted in at the factory. They were mistaken - - mine was right in the ten ring at 100 yards from the very first shot. I remain DELIGHTED!
Got the Saint Edge recently, it is made very well. It also has many options you would find on rifles twice the price and proprietary features other companies wish they thought of. Thanks Springfield.
All I need to do is see 'Camp Perry' in the title of a video and I'm already missing CMP. Wonderful footage, engaging narrative! 0:02:19 Shout out to Camp Valor Outdoors!
The BAR was awesome in it's day. Selectable fire and 20 round box magazine fed. 19lbs, empty. M-14. Selectable fire, 20 magazine. 9lbs. Which would you carry all day?
I look forward to shooting the M1A match at Perry whenever I get a a chance. Always a great bunch of competitors on the line, and lots of fun. Hopefully Springfield will have their shop on commercial row open again in 2023.i do miss the a/c Gatorade and popcorn after the match. Thanks.

I brought mine back in the year of 2003 some time ago. Since then after Springfield did some political stunt people have bashed them, but I bought mine along time ago. I put alot of money in mind with sadlack parts and just getting used to this rifle at 300 yds iron sights I'm hitting a 20" steel plate with no problems my friends got scopes on their M-1a's I'm not giving in. I do want to try the 500 yd. soon this week coming hope I lay it up I got faith in my baby.At 62 years old my sights still on just crossed my fingers and breath perfect.
@@DFox-ud3gx I ❤the M1A..i like s.a..for the $it NOT a cheap rifle.for the moa.an ar out of the box is MORE accurate.but I've had no malfunction in my M1A..my ar even a wet bolt is no guaranty..to work.tap, rack, bang...
For close combat .308 is too powerful a cartridge, but it is rather weak over long distances. I look forward to finally seeing 6.8 for the civilian population.
I had a Nation 'Super Match' I use to shoot at Service Rifle Matches, but took up the AR and sold the M1A to my friend. (Wish I hadn't done that.) Have a Match AR 10 special build by Armalite but not the same as steel and wood.
I have owned a title two class three M1ANM SELECT FIRE RIFLE. Built by Springfield Armory's GLENN NELSON. TO NATIONAL MATCH SPECS. All U.S.G.I. Parts. Purchased in 1984. The Best Darn Rifle/Machine gun. I have ever owned or Fired Anywhere or anytime. ALL NFA RULES WERE FALLOWED TO THE LETTER. TAX PAID TRANSFER PER NFA BRANCH ATF&E BRANCH AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. For the most bang for your buck get the Loaded. Stay away from the wood. As nice as it is depending on weather it’ll warp the wood and warp your shots at long distances
It takes some work to accurize an M1A or M14, but a qualified armorer or gunsmith knows how. The design has three of the most-important components of a highly-accurate rifle all ready to go from the factory - namely a fine trigger , good barrel and excellent sights. Throw in a good bedding job, a NM-guide rod, free-float the barrel, NM gas cylinder, and some other enhancements and you are good-to-go. But that's not all - you still need match-grade ammunition. Even a premium rifle capable of excellent accuracy can perform poorly if it is fed sub-standard ammunition. Last but certainly not least, the individual behind the gun must know his business - how to get the most performance out of his equipment. If that skill isn't there, none of the fancy technology matters much.
The only Different between a M1A and a M1 Rifle is-that the M1 Load with a clip and the M1A a magazine The internal parts on the M1A is identical to the M1and not to the M14. I carry both rifles in the Marine Corps and the Army.

I know a man that shoots every Camp Perry match, fanatically! He does very well, but getting a Navy sponsorship doesn't hurt! Talk about a dream job!
I was too old for the M1A, but I loved its daddy, the M1.
I used one in the army as a squad designated marksman. It was a great rifle.
Get yourself one for yourself if you have't already. i have two and love them
Glad to be a proud owner of one. Thank you spring field

I ordered mine and paid for it. Hurry up Springfield. I’m waiting for it to get here. The waiting is the hardest part.
I just set my M1A up as a DMR. Best RIFLE EVER
what chassis and scope if i may ask
FAVORITE COMBAT RIFLE.👍👍
ALL OR NOTHING.308 ❤

Qualified Expert with the M-14in the Army. They are a great rifle.
👍usa m14/m1a all American
Great video to get pumped. Just order a loaded model today. Love love love this rifle. My dream came true :)
Congrats! Make sure you redeem your purchase for a gen 4 scope mount and 2 free mags. Valid on purchases until May 31st 2020.

I see 2 of my fellow Black Coyote service rifle team in the Red hats!
I love my M1A but I love my M1G and Yugo SKS just as much.
Great video I’ll get to that match before I die
That statement holds true; "sexiest rifle in Murica'".
I recently bought an M1A but have yet to find ammo. They’re always out of stock where I live
National match or super match any recommendations
I love M1A so much! Cool powerful rifle, almost trouble-free. But my Bushmaster at 5.56 x 45, at a distance of 300-400 yards, is much more accurate.
The military still uses the M2 50cal the gun is 100 years old American engineering is second to none.
They did change up a few things on the 50cal but the basic platform is indeed the same from ww2.
Are there different classes?
Standard, National Match, Super Match?
I want to do this ☺
Why has SA stopped coming to the National Matches?
Im buying an M1A! Any recomendations on which variant?

it's a shame that off the shelf they aren't sub MOA.
100%for MONEY they should shoot sub moa..
ABSOLUTELY TRUE EVERY TIME, ANYWHERE, ANYONE OF THESE--------------- M14/M14NM./M1A.M1A.NM.
I do with a M1a Loaded with .308 Federal Gold match ammo 168 grain at 200 yards

WTF:WTF. What are you WTF about? The grip? That’s a common, legal way to grip a service rifle.

Wrong, M1A is an semiauto only M14. The M1 garand was the predecessor of the M14/M1A platform
