Nobody's going to talk about how hard his father worked to support his children. RESPECT
@John Doe facts
Moms and dads that settle down and break a sweat for their kids, staying away from "bachelor syndrome", are the MVPs of society.
I mean... He did have his children work on the fields. Im sure the money they made went to the household. Would you make your 10 year old work in the fields?
@@Juliorios-z2d Not everyone is born into a cozy life. The great thing about this is that at a young age they were able to work hard for what they have and want, obviously it stuck with them and are successful because of it. Children now a days feel entitled to everything because their parents give them everything and dont understand how to work for what they want.
@John Doe
It wouldn't be out of wedlock if the males would practice self control, respect women over their selfish needs & desires, had children with whom they actually married, became good husband's and father's (not every other weekend ones), males who actually sacrificed for their families, so the problem still falls on the males! It's still males to blame!
The fact that his dad instantly responded with encouragement regardless of how difficult to achieve his sons dreams were really speaks to his character

A Native American from the continent of America. The people already here before 1492 whose descendants speak a European language called Spanish. Hispanic is a European term for people from the Iberian peninsula. When Africans only speak English they don't stop being African and all of a sudden become British or Britanic? No. So Native Americans don't stop being Americans just because they only speak a European language imposed on their ancestors. This is how others impose an identity on other people and make them feel they are foreigners in theit own land. They're not Hispanic. They are Native Americans who speak Spanish. From Alaska to Chile Native Americans speak English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and millions still speak American languages like Nahuatl, Quechua, Aymara, Navajo and others. They are all still Americans regardless of language.

This is American Exceptionalism at its finest; not some false form of patriotism. Nowhere else is this kind of journey possible. I love his story, and truly respect everything about him - from his first job, to his journey to space, and to his knowledge and wisdom that education is the key to that kind of mobility. And to think, an astronaut, who could admit to imposter syndrome. There’s an authenticity here that is incredibly uncommon. As such, the movie of his story will be compelling. And for any immigrant, they should be able to see themselves in him...and know what is possible. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Bless you Jose Hernandez.

It's an honor to be Mexican American.
"they are stealing our jobs" lmfao like if y'all could get as far as he could crying y'all's asses for them "stealing jobs" this man earned it!!!!💯
Ikr the same people saying “their stealing our jobs” are the people doing drugs living paycheck to paycheck stuck in retail earning 11$ an hour working 40 hour weeks just to barely get by
I mean, when people say that, they are referring to illegal immigrants.
@@switch1837 they don’t though. People blatantly are racist daily in my town. It’s disgusting. People who legally immigrated here that I worked with at work were called leeches for working at the cafe I worked at. Daily. People are just racist. They don’t care about legality or not.
@@taten007 Then you live in a really disgusting town. However, that doesn't change the fact that normal people who say that are referring to illegal immigrants.

Lucky he in texas because if it was california he woulda been lazy
He graduated from my high school! We have a mural of him on one of our buildings
I like how his old man was proud of all of his kids
Ahh! I don't think anyone will fully realize how much this story means to me. I've always admired latin-americans for their hard work and strong family relationships, to see them succeed is truly exciting to me! I know what it feels like to fail and when you fail those feelings of not belonging get really, really strong. It's SO easy to give up or postpone your pursuit of dreams and ambitions. Thank you for reminding me once again to believe in yourself!

Humans are humans. No matter what fences many fearful people wish to build. Congratulation Jose. You're a hero.
Sorry but your dumb.
Fences? It's called borders protecting your country from outsiders.
I wonder why these fearful people don't just get some land and go wall them selves in the way they want to? I know the decent humans in the world would be just fine with that.
@Bryce Benefield lol it’s not that serious . Im texting . Lol but thanks.
Yikes, we have countries for a reason. Look on your map. We have outlines of borders. Even China had to put a wall up, that worked very well.
Absolutely true example of the American dream! No matter where you come from or what your nationality is if you work hard and apply yourself you can go far. That's what I was raised knowing as the American dream I don't know where and when this country changed so much but it's beautiful to see a story like this.

OMD I heard this guy, Jose Hernandez, speak at a UC Santa Barbara graduation several years ago and my whole family was impressed by his life story. A movie should be made about him.
Oh. I just got to the end heard they’re making a movie about him. It’s going to be great!

As a Latina who still hold my dream and aspirations, this made me tear up with joy.

Keep going, I’m one of a handful of Latinos in my aerospace engineering program at Embry Riddle. Majority of my classes are either white/Asian Americans or foreign born Asian students. In our communities things like education aren’t prioritized, let alone space-travel be prioritized. I understand his doubt syndrome, I doubt myself sometimes and say “do I even belong in here, with all these other engineers”. And to drown out the noise of my thoughts I work hard, I work harder until that thought almost disappears. I’m a first generation immigrant as well, never stop, life isn’t going to be easy on you so don’t be easy on it, go hard when you can and try your absolute best.

I was privileged enough to meet him in person and hear him talk about his story last year. Really a humble and funny and charismatic man! But seriously he has such an amazing and inspiring story, I know he definitely inspired me! :)
His story is truly inspiring. I started working in the fields at the age of 13 and still continue to. For years I hated it, however the fields and my parents have been my biggest motivation to continue my education. Graduating next spring with my bachelors and double minor. And I’m not done yet, voy por más!!

"Yes! You absolutely belong here; and, we are a better country for it!" Such a beautiful and powerful sentiment. The story of Jose Hernandez is an extraordinary inspiration.
I love seeing this. It's amazing seeing new astronauts come into play. We need more people like this willing to risk the unknown. I hope one day I will be able to go to space to. Safely of course 😁
ABC.
OMG, So proud of you & your story, from one Latina to another Latino.
Im forwarding this to my Gradson!!
Damn. A parents words of encouragement really affect their kids. He was so inspired by his dad’s belief in him that he never gave up in those 12 years of applying to NASA. My dad told me that he could never see me successfully complete a bachelors in computer science or be in that field. He didn’t mean to hurt me, but those words hurt and they never left me. It sucks when your parent have zero belief in you. Regardless, I went to school and graduated with a bachelors in computer science and now working on my masters in the same field. Never give up, regardless of whether people belief in you or not
