The first engine I ever tore down was the 8 hp Briggs & Stratton out of a Montgomery Ward lawn tractor, that looked a lot like the one in the background. At least I think I recognize it- that was 32 years ago; I was 8. The diesel engine is for that I imagine? I've been wanting to do a mower swap with one for a while. Wish they had a 2 cylinder you could buy but the EPA says no. 😕
I'm choosing between a 16hp Briggs and Stratton Gasoline Engine or these Yanmar 10-16hp Diesel for a powerplant for my homemade mini truck to carry tools, fencing wires, logs and rocks around the property.. how much fuel does it sip per hour on your estimate?
Amount of energy pulled from fuel as mechanical motion: Diesel efficiency: 25-35% Gasoline: 15-25% With diesel being more energy dense per Gal as well as the engine's efficiency, diesel saves way more fuel: Considering this is the 10hp model, you'd need to output 7.3kwh in mechanical motion. To do that you'd have to input 25 kwh of fuel total. Each gallon of diesel has 35kwh of energy so ultimately. TL;DR I'd expect, running this thing full throttle, to use 0.7 Gallons of diesel in 1 hour.
@@alliskidd2142 I work in a small engine shop and there's so many different grades brands people swear by. The one thing to remember is it's a flat cam engine and needs high zinc oil or a bit of zinc additive. Though, organic zinc might be strong enough in the modern oils. I've got a couple 186f clones, both had cam wear when I got them. After 10-20 hours I would go at least semi-synthetic. Some of the oils people have sweared by for gas zero turn mower equipment at least is high mileage Castrol or Mobil. And also 0w-30. I still don't know which ones best!
@@alliskidd2142 How about amsoil intercepto synthetic 2 stroke oil. i dumoped afew gallons in my 8v92 2 stroke and she runs fine on it, boy at 48$ gallon aint cheap so i do it once in a while
Is it possible to mount the engine sideways so that the drive shaft faces downwards? I'm considering replacing the B&S 13hp engine (Stiga Park 13 Compact) with a Yanmar engine. The fuel tank would need to be mounted facing upwards to avoid it being sideways. Anyone here knows that ?
No it’s not possible without further modification, the oil will not be circulating around the engine properly because the dipper is not facing vertically.
what a weak worthless piece of shit as my sled motor make more than 10 times the power! why does this 2 stroke diesel make so little power for its size and weight. a 440cc sled gas motor is way more powerful and reliable!
Surprisingly nice-sounding little diesel engine. I want one!
And you will never look back , this thing is a work horse.

I thought you had to use the decompression switch to shut it down lol
sweet power!👍
Nice catch. What oil are you going to use?
Thanks. I have Rotella T 15W40 in it.

@@jlo13800 Its a diesel, by design they dont make alot of hp. They make alot of torque. Also, its 4stroke not 2stroke.
Diesel engine or gasoline?
