The first time I took a string, it took me an entire day to get it fixed. This guy does it mid song in front of an audience, even tunes appropriately and keeps jamming.
I saw something similar some years ago when he broke a string and just stopped and sang a scout song 'be prepared' while he was changing it! Totally professional, unlike many of the current batch of prima donnas who would never stoop so low.
He's got a spare for every string, each one in it's own labeled packet. So what he's doing is trying to find the right packet. You see that he accidentally throws the correct packet on the floor at first and then has to bend over to pick it up. That's when he throws all the other packets down because they don't matter.
While I give him credit as a performer & songwriter, why didn't he have someone change the string, or another single guitar prepared, as many professional musicians do for this exact situation, at least for the moment the string was being replaced?

Experience does that, you can't rush it. And your time is about average for non-professionals ;)
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
So amazing how he doesn't stop while changing the string!🎸🎶

But this was even cooler
Natural born live performer. And just by watching his face you can tell how much he enjoys it.
This guy is effing amazing. What a performer.
I was at this show. A million years ago.
I envy you!
don mclean: change string in the middle of performance like a beast
modern guitarist:I cant tune a guitar properly without a tuner
can't stop laughing at 4:42
so funny how he tuned the string to the beat of the music
Hahaha. He kinda laughed too after that. :p
OMG! the guy's badass! he even didn't stop singing!
Classic example of the show must go on. Very cool.
I saw him break a string like this a concert in upstate New York
It was still cool
This is a real pro at work.

Just one word Professional!!!!
Pretty amazing mamma. No way I could even get the string off and a new one on, let alone get it tuned, mid song.
Im a guitar player and I think that is badass indeed

I have this recorded on VCR tape and remember it just like it was yesterday
Saw Don around 1981 ish at Garden States Art Center and same thing happened.
He handled that quite well.
Unbelieveable!!!! Doesnt miss a beat while putting on the new string...... Amazing man indeed!
Simon, Taylor, Buffet, Chapin ain't changing that string.
They're puttin it down and picking up another guitar.
Way to go Donny !!

That was so cool how he handled that...yeah I am a guitar player too...
What a legend!!!!
Class!❤
5th String breaks at around 2:17. That's a lot of paper packaging for one string.

Amazing!
This video is so so precious! Thank u for sharing this. Brought tears to my eyes. Saved my mortal soul
Well he surely did not waste time reading the manuels.
Was at this show. I don't remember it taking him this long to replace the string.
Must have been the days before guitar tech's. Great recovery.
Here it is.
Sooo cool..sure takes it in his stride....could had a spare guitar but nooo..think that guitar must be his baby :)
Yes, whichever one he was using for years at a clip was his baby - good conclusion ;)

3:50 🔥 🖤
anyone........who want guitar tuner??
Always had little Dylan in him (or him in Dylan).
I like the Jeff Beck lookalike.
That's John Platania.
