    Nice boat but, why are the sailing catamarans, versus the motor catamarans, made with nets up front and not the solid decks? Is this about safety, weight, or something else?
    I am looking at the different designs and trying to understand the reasoning behind this difference. Bali does a solid front area and swear by it on their sailing units and they are blue water boats. I get that motor Cats are essentially coastal cruisers but, is it just that they aren't likely to experience open water conditions therefore the odds are played on them?
    When you look at the motor versions, you see the solid deck in front provides a lot more useful space if this is not a safety issue.
    Beautiful boat!

    Sadly, this beautiful boat ran aground on a reef and had to be sold. The entire bottom of the starboard hull was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. It is currently sitting in North Sound marina, on the hard (on stands out of the water) being repaired. That is one of the many downsides to having such a big cat like this one, but personally, I think it is a beautiful boat, and what happened is a tragedy.

    • @meridethjames3490
      @meridethjames3490 Год назад +2

      @@greatnorthern3481 Yes absolutely, but if it's bigger it's more likely to because it has a bigger draft. You can have a 50 ft boat though with a 3 and 1/2 ft draft, so it also depends on the boat you buy. A 77 ft catamaran is a lot more difficult to navigate with because it is so large. This boat even had a hired captain that supposedly knew the area well and it still hit the reef.

    Wow! No one has commented since my post a year ago? Well, I recently looked the Sunreef 80 and it is a wonderful boat, but this Lagoon 77 looks bigger! It has some wonderous features. I give this boat a hearty Yabba Dabba Doo. However, like the Sunreef, the interior helm station appears to be only useful for monitoring and navigating the boat. In order to sail this and the Sunreef, boat some poor helmsman/captain and his or her crewperson, has to be on the flybridge, exposed to horizontal rain, spray and wind, in order to manage the sails, sheets, etc., of this SAILboat. Being out in the elements is fatiguing. Being in a protected helm station is less fatiguing. For a 24 hour helm station watch, how many crew do you need to stand watch in the elements vs. how many in a protected station. Are the helm stations protected or not? I think that is an important HR element to know.

    I mean; I wonder if the cat performance could be affected.
    My concern is that the cat design was made to use wind loads to perform to a specific level so I wonder if adding a seakeeper for stabilization purposes could somehow affect performance negatively. Any idea there?

    These things are island hopping floating pontoons with sails, not serious sailing vessels ! I don’t see anyone circumnavigating the world with one of these downwind behemoths or one made by Sunreef either. I’ve seen some in the range of 35 to 50 foot sailing the tradewinds with a spinnaker and even those are really slow, but much faster than these huge ones.
    If you get a catamaran, then get something which can sail like an Outremer or a Gunboat. Otherwise stick with monohulls and haul ass close hauled, close reach and beam reach sailing.

    What if the master bedroom patio door motor fails to close the patio door? When it's closed is it really water tight ? I'm afraid this weak link in the design would be the cause of the boat to sink ! You darn well know the door motor will fail someday ! Scary !

    • @CatamaranChannel
      @CatamaranChannel  6 лет назад +4

      They build in a motor that never fails. Its from nasa, the company that get billions to hoax anything. So it must be good. Im jk. No i might assume that theres a manual operation mode on it, i'll have to check that.

    • @ericaufdembrink1268
      @ericaufdembrink1268 6 лет назад

      The simple solution is to replace the motor before leaving port if it fails. It looks like a pretty standard watertight door. I'd expect some minor water ingress during heavy seas. That is true of the more traditional hatches upstairs too though. You solve that by having at least one working bilge pump per hull. Personally I'm the type of sailor that would disconnect the motor and lift the door shut if it failed. Then again I'm not the type of sailor that would be working on a 24 meter lagoon. What a monster.

      Most of the time, if you come across a small marina you should use the mooringball. Saves allot of hassle and is usually cheaper. From there on you can do things by dinghy.
      About the visability, to operate this one you need a crew, or atleast 2 more people who help out with sails and so on.
      Thanks for watching!
