Exactly, I found a weird looking screw one time only to realize it was a hex screw with a secure torx bit snapped off inside. I was able to grip the screw from below and turn it with some side cutters lol
I had a similar thing happen just yesterday. I was using a hex wrench with a ball end. The ball broke off in the set screw. It took a while and was extremely frustrating but I was finally able to get out the ball piece by cleaning out all shavings and debris in there, making sure it was loose and wiggling around, then I took a pick up tool with a strong magnet on the end, stuck a 1/4” hex bit to it that was one size smaller than the ball so I could get as much surface area of the end of the bit to transfer the magnetic pull to the ball piece and it came right out! Now I'm here watching videos still trying to figure out how to get the damned set screw out! LoL I already knew about the trick he showed in this video and when I tried it, all I did was reem out the already striped hex socket that much more! I've been at this damn set screw for about an hour a day for 4 days now! Been Soaking it in penetrating oil over night for a week... STUPID KIDDIE RIDE! UGH! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ ...LOL
My man. You HAVE NO IDEA how happy I was after I followed your guidelines to extract a small titanium screw on my motorcycle! You saved me not only some bucks but put a huge smile on my face! It was super easy and best of all - it worked like a charm. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you
Titanium screw? I find that a curious choice of metal for a screw, since it is so hard to work with, expensive, and doesn't save much weight (a big reason for using Ti instead of steel alloys). It would, though, be strong and never rust. Can you please tell me where it was on the bike? Thanks.
This video is timeless young man. Its three years old but many will come to this channel to assist them with their upgrade. Easy to follow, clear instructions.. Good JOB from Los Angeles.
Why don't you come over to help me with my leaking bath tub faucet? The Allen screw is stuck inside a deep hole. I am frustrated. The Allen screw is 7/64", very small. Thanks.
Magic!!! Was looking at a set screw on my shower handle that looked like the plumber who installed it used a drill to round it out! This worked perfectly first time! Thanks!
That's exactly what I've done with faucet handles. My plumber was shocked after he'd struggled for five minutes. I'm just a dumb homeowner. He started listening to me after that.
Have done so successfully with larger sizes, but now have 1/16 hex set screws. I have a set of mini-torx, but closest is too small and larger one won't fit.
Amazing! My moen shower handle allen hex screw was stripped. This video saved me lot of headaches I was about to take. Follow the video, you are good to go.
If you have some allen head screws that you have a high chance that you will have to remove and they are pretty susceptible to stripping, it would be a good idea to put a little dab of anti-seize compound on the threads before reinstalling. A torque screwdriver would also be a good idea, so that you know it's tight enough but not too tight.
Thanks for the info. I already drilled mine out of the pipe fitting (wish I would have watched this first!). The pipe was stuck in the fitting. I got the pipe out of the fitting, after I drilled out the set screw. Yah! But now the threads of the screw are still in the fitting. Boo! Cannot get a new screw in. Any help your wise mind can lend me on this?
Being a ASE certified technician I can tell you this is nothing but bull crap. It takes a drill and a lot of know how to get this out and the part off without destroying anything. If it was that easy everyone would do it and they would not be call8ng me. Been there and done that.
I've got a stripped out allen bolt on my McClane edger. It takes a # 8 allen wrench. Maybe I can find a huge torx bit to fit it. What a PITA. Thanks for the tip
Will this work for a crossbow crank handle? The model the manufacturer makes is left handed. I can get the handle side off fine but the side I WANT to put it on is all rounded and I am irked. Its still too small for the next size up of key.
I think Allen screws need to all be changed out with torx screws. The torx screw is vastly more efficient than an Allen pattern. Although to be fair, a large percentage of the time that they strip out, is due to someone using a poor fitting Allen wrench, or over torquing, or even failing to insure that the Allen wrench is properly seated. On torx screws that are stubborn I've had good luck by putting it in there and tapping it with a hammer to really seat it well and help loosen the threads.
I tried this and it's stripped the bolt head out even more😢 if it wasn't countersunk I'd get grips on it. There has to be a special tool for this problem..
By golly, it worked! Thank you so very much. It's been a day of things breaking, and I saved this until last. Voila! I replaced it with a bolt, which will be much less prone to stripping.
I was in trouble. Stripped set screw. I found your 46 second video on how to remove it. Well it worked perfect. I can't thank you enough for showing me. If there's anything you need from New Orleans don't hesitate to ask, I probably have it.
Omg, this works! I'm not good with tools, and was just changing the easywheels on my folding bike when i realized that the bolt on one of them was rounded (probably because I reused an old wheel to temporarily replace one that broke, hence the need to change). I tried different methods suggested by those professional-looking videos, including using super glue with a sacrificial key. I was getting seriously depressed until I tried this and it works! Thanks a million!
This works a treat. I had a crappy little stripped screw on a light fitting that I stuffed around with for half and hour trying to remove. I was at the point of thinking I needed to replace it just to change the globe and this worked instantly. I cant that you enough!
Set screws are always a pain. They are typically tiny, and usually exposed to conditions that cause them to freeze or degrade. I never re-use one when I do a repair. Always replace it with a fresh one.
Thanks for Video. I was able to use the rubber glove method to remove a slightly striped allen bolt out of my wheelchair brake lever and then replace it with a new one. You really helped me out of a jam.
I leaned that long ago but it’s always worth repeating for the he younger and less experienced viewers. Well done! Short and to the point and no red X’s with buzzers!
What I ended up doing was placing some aluminum foil at the end of the Allen wrench then tapped the Allen wrench with a hammer and the foil filled in the space from it being stripped
Man good idea! Trying this right now but the screw I am trying to get out is for the cage/wheel for my blower motor so very tight space and the stripped set screw and the tore bit between t15 and t20 and too small a space to hammer in the 20.
Ugh. I have a panhead Allen nut stuck on a bike, and it is not coming loose at all, despite me using star bits, rubber bands, and so many other solutions.
how can i get a rounded allen 5/64 aluminum its about 1/4 long very small, its strip it just the allen just spinning round and not catching ,,you got a great video,,
any idea how to remove a really tiny allen key screw thats rusted and the top is stripped? its holding a doorbell onto front door, so its a really small allen key screw. allen key keeps turning in it. i tried wd40 to loosen it up.
Thanks for not making a ten minute video of this with the info we need in the last minute, short and to the point 👍🏻🇬🇧
He didn’t even spend half the time saying what the video is going to be about! 😹 🇺🇸
Okay, now how do you remove a torx bit that has broken off inside the allen screw?
Same problem here
Weld, make a weld mound then weld a t shaped small square bar innit slowly tap and move
Exactly, I found a weird looking screw one time only to realize it was a hex screw with a secure torx bit snapped off inside.

Just happened to me on my RC truck 😂😂😂😂

How brilliantly simple compared to all the other daft videos I've seen .....Thanks
Yeah. This one's deft.
Amazing! I would have never thought of that. I tried your method of a 3mm allen screw and it worked like a charm. Great suggestion and video.
Great trick , thanks for no intro song and dance no dog or pets introduction, just get it done 😊
Genius!!! Worked like a charm on my shower handle Allen screw...AND your video is less than 1 min!!!
Love this video! Short and right to the point! Very helpful! Thanks for posting!
Have done so successfully with larger sizes, but now have 1/16 hex set screws. I have a set of mini-torx, but closest is too small and larger one won't fit.
Is a brand name, hex is the term most used
Amazing! My moen shower handle allen hex screw was stripped. This video saved me lot of headaches I was about to take. Follow the video, you are good to go.
What’s that tool called

Dude I think you just saved me a few hundred dollars! You're awesome!
You sir ! Are a life saver! Thank you very much! That worked super well! I really appreciate it so much!
Being a maintenance fitter by trade, I learned that little trick many years ago, but still remains a valuable cost saving tip that you have shared!
There is like literally 0.1 seconds where you say the name of the thing and show it. What is this thing? A torx bit? torques bit? ?
Being a ASE certified technician I can tell you this is nothing but bull crap. It takes a drill and a lot of know how to get this out and the part off without destroying anything. If it was that easy everyone would do it and they would not be call8ng me. Been there and done that.
Thanks champ. This worked for me. Appreciate the quick video. Straight to business
I'm going to put the old screw back in, because I am the creator of most of my FRUSTRATION
Saved me a few hundred dollars fixing, and not having to replace, my kitchen faucet. Thank you Thank you!
I've got a stripped out allen bolt on my McClane edger. It takes a # 8 allen wrench. Maybe I can find a huge torx bit to fit it. What a PITA. Thanks for the tip

I have been using the same method as you Sir. The other way is putting in small metal shim stock which takes up the closeness of the FIT !!!!!!!!!!
LOL I broke my torx bit inside the hex head ...... ffs lol

Awesome trick! I got a very tiny grub screw out of a 3d printer hot end using this. Much better than having to try to weld on to a tiny dot of metal.
I tried this and it's stripped the bolt head out even more😢 if it wasn't countersunk I'd get grips on it. There has to be a special tool for this problem..
When/if I get these cursed allen screws out I will frame the bastards in a hall of shame! Will try this tomorrow when I get some Torx bits. 🤞
This worked beautifully. Thank you for the information
Only liking and subbing because it let me leave work on time ❤️ thx fellow mechanic
If rusted or corroded, I find a squirt of B.P. Blaster penetrating oil and let it set for several minutes also is a big help.
Did you say tork spit, I couldn't quite hear what you said, thanks pal 👍
Metric “usually never” works. Which is it? Usually or never?
Worked like a charm. Thanks!
So happy you taught me this trick. Not all heroes wear capes, thank you so much for sharing.
Looks like the grizzly jointer I had similar issues with
By golly, it worked! Thank you so very much. It's been a day of things breaking, and I saved this until last. Voila! I replaced it with a bolt, which will be much less prone to stripping.
👍👍
thank you
great idea thanks thats a really great tip i nan engineering workshop that really handy will definiitely try it
Option use a left hand drill by design once it cuts/grabs it will pull it out
i have a stuck allen screw just like that on a drill bit extension i will have to try that to get it out
Worked like a charm..thanks for sharing!
This SAVED me, thank you!!
A "torque's bit"..................What is that?
Ahhh, so this is what Torx was invented for, good to know 👏
Just saved me a lot of time. Thank you!
Thank you so much saved my life lol
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing
Straight to the point, no bs 👍
👍👍

I bet it was a Brompton 😂
You are a lifesaver. 🙏
When replace it use a screw with head
Had a 5/64" screw stuck in a controller, used a T9 bit and some WD-40 and got it out PERFECTLY. Thanks for the tip.
Excellent, thank you!
How about a left hand drill bit?
Great tip. Thanks🇦🇺
youre my hero today. thanks
This works a treat. I had a crappy little stripped screw on a light fitting that I stuffed around with for half and hour trying to remove. I was at the point of thinking I needed to replace it just to change the globe and this worked instantly. I cant that you enough!
use splined allen screws
It's called a drill bit
awesome! you the man!
Totally caotic video
Thank you so much!

Totally BS.

Nice work

Nice.
great
Ugh. I have a panhead Allen nut stuck on a bike, and it is not coming loose at all, despite me using star bits, rubber bands, and so many other solutions.
Dah best video! Thanks for your wisdom 🔮 I was able to unscrew a very stripped e-collar remote
Spectacular, saved me time and trouble! Thanks so much!
RBRT
You just saved my butt! I have a guitar with a Raytheon knob on it where the screws were stripped. This worked perfectly.
Awesome, the torx bit removed it right away, I was about to go buy some epoxy or a screw remover kit. Thanks
LOVE YOU BRO, I was going to grind the hole handle off, you rock
Unreal!!!! This worked like a charm. Saved me a lot of aggro and $.
how can i get a rounded allen 5/64 aluminum its about 1/4 long very small, its strip it just the allen just spinning round and not catching ,,you got a great video,,
any idea how to remove a really tiny allen key screw thats rusted and the top is stripped? its holding a doorbell onto front door, so its a really small allen key screw. allen key keeps turning in it. i tried wd40 to loosen it up.
As said below, short, concise with no bull shit for 15 minutes. I have subscribed!
Would that work on removing a stripped grub screw from a light sabre?
Oh my goodness! 2 seconds and the freaking thing is out. Good thinking on using Torx!
Just saved me some hassle on a bicycle restoration. Thanks!!
Genius. Thank you.
Thank you , save my day!
