    This machine uses production stops for when you are production mat cutting. Meaning repeat size mats being cut over and over again. The stops greatly speed up the process of repeat size borders. However, if several mats of different border sizes are being done, its actually faster to simply mark lines to cut from rather than constantly changing the stop positions for the various border sizes. I hope that explanation helps.

    Ron, if you do not anticipate high volume or production mat cutting which is repeat cuts over and over, I would not go with the 850 Platinum Edge machine as you will be buying features you will not use and do not need. If you are cutting in area of a few dozen mats per month with some repeat production cutting, I would recommend the Simplex series which does feature the start and stop indicators and costs a lot less than the Platinum Edge series. You can find videos on the Simplex machines on our RUclips channel to see it being used.

      +Logan Graphic I love my 850 Platinum Edge because the head is on the bar and I can easily cut straight, then beveled without switching cutters like I had to do with the Simplex. Best investment I made for my photography business 3 years ago. :)

    Excellent question. The reason being is this level of equipment is in the professional range based on a design that has existed for almost 4 decades. The way the blade enters the mat on the 850 makes it prohibitive to allow for any start and stop indicators like our hobbyist level equipment have. The lesser expensive cutters use a totally different blade entry design that does allow for the start and stop line and was specifically designed that way by Logan. Please call with more questions.

    The V-Groover to use on the Platinum Edge series mat cutters is the Logan #706 Universal V-Groover.

    @LoganGraphic  13 лет назад

    Yes the Platinum Edge series will cut up to 8 ply rag mount board. You will not get any overcuts so long as your blade is adjusted properly. The blade should barely pass through the mat board and only score into the slip sheet underneath. Overcuts can be reduced by adjusting the blade depth, adjusting the stops if necessary and making minor compensations on where you start and stop with the blade to get the best result. You also need to change your blade frequently when cutting 8 ply.

    The blade magazine can only be installed in one position. To increase or decrease the blade depth, remove the magazine and twist the knurled knob in or out to increase or decrease depth.

    Thanks for the rapid response! I'm trying to decide which full size cutter to get and if I should go all the way with the 850 or for much less money get a 650 or 750 series. I don't anticipate any high volume repetitive cutting...just looking for a machine that's easy to use and cuts well.

    What should I use for a slip sheet? I have the platinum edge and after it became worn out, I didn't know what to replace it with

    • @LoganGraphic
      @LoganGraphic  2 года назад

      Hello, just use scrap mat board as a slip sheet and nothing else. You should move the slip sheet around between cuts, flip it over and use the other end until its completely worn out. Then just replace with more mat board. Thanks.

    What happens if your 1/8th at one end and 1/4 at the other on a large expensive piece on a Friday night with no other matt left and the post office closes in a half hour?

    • @LoganGraphic
      @LoganGraphic  7 лет назад

      Hi,
      Are you talking about over cuts? Are these on the face side of the mat? You need to adjust your blade depth to only score the slip sheet underneath and change the blade often. Please call 800-331-6232 if you have questions.

      +Tirage Gameshop
      8 ply mat bevel size
      3/16" foam core with two passes on straight cut side, maybe one if blade depth is set to extreme.

    Is the machine used in this video, the Platinum Edge 850, Platinum Edge 855, or the Platinum Edge 860? Is the only difference between the 3 machines, the length? It is hard to tell what are the dimensions of each machine from the descriptions given on your website, where we can get the capacity size, but not the overall size of the machine. This would be important for us to know as to what would best fit in our studios, and what size table we would need to allocate. At least we know that they are all-metal machines and are mounted on anodized aluminum. This should be an improvement over the medium density fiberboard mounted machines. Please provide the complete dimensions and the weight of each machine for the Platinum Edge line.

      Hi, for the video we used the 40" capacity #850 Platinum Edge. The only difference between the other models #855 and #860 is length and mat board capacity. The width of the base board on all models is 16 1/2". Including the 32" squaring arm which can be removed, the are all 47" wide. The length per model is #850 (40" capacity) 52 1/2". #855 (48" capacity) 62 1/2". #860 (60" capacity) 72 1/2". The weight per machine is #850 43 lbs. #855 53 lbs. #860 60 lbs. Hope that helps. You are welcome to call us with more questions.

      Thank you. I also have a question about the cutter head. On your website, you state that it has "super smooth cutting head ball bearings". This is repeated by many of the distributors, such as B&H and Amazon. But the user reviews indicate that it uses a gliding mechanism. What is the actual mechanism that the Platinum Edge employs?

    • @LoganGraphic
      @LoganGraphic  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, The Platinum Edge uses a combination of Delrin plastic pads and rolling sealed bearings to glide down the guide rail. From time to time, you may need to remove the cutting head to fully clean the guide rail and anything that has gathered up underneath the cutting head itself. These roller bearings are adjustable to increase the ride tension to insure the cutting head glides properly not being too tight or too loose.

    • @originalBongoCat
      @originalBongoCat 6 лет назад

      Thank you, LG, for being so informative about this model. The roller bearings will make the cutting so much easier than just a plastic bushing gliding along the rail.

    I would like to buy the Logan 855 Platinum Edge, but watch the video on youtube. The 855 Platinum Edge adjustmeters on this machine are available in imperial and non-metric units. Is there a ruler in both imperial and metric units on this machine?

    • @LoganGraphic
      @LoganGraphic  6 лет назад

      The Platinum Edge series can be ordered either in imperial or metric scales depending on where it is being sold. Please indicate which scale type you want when you are placing an order with an authorized dealer.

      Hello, yes you can cut a reverse bevel on the Platinum Edge. Please see our video "How to Cut a Reverse Bevel" and use the same steps on the #855.

    Are you able to mount this machine to the wall?

    • @LoganGraphic
      @LoganGraphic  4 года назад

      Hello, This machine is not a wall mount type material cutters. Its designed as a table mat cutter only. Mounting it vertically to a wall would make it very difficult to use. Thanks.

    "Insert the blade roughly 3/16" in front of the line" doesn't really sound like the right way to avoid over/under cuts. Why isn't there a line on the cutter as there is in the less expensive cutters?
