CORRECTION: At 3:41 I say that half the population of Jaffna had been Sinhalese. This is incorrect. On looking back at my sources I found this from Gordon Weiss: "Prior to the rise of the Tamil Tigers, around 10 per cent of the population of Jaffna had been Sinhalese who had peacefully coexisted with their neighbours for generations". Other sources (e.g. Wikipedia) put the number lower than that. I've tried to put in a correction card on the video itself but it hasn't worked. My apologies and thank you to those people who pointed this out. Secondly, there are many comments on this video accusing me of bias. While of course it is impossible to be completely neutral, and on such a sensitive issue it is probably inevitable that many people think I have a bias one way or another, the one thing I would point out is that this video is meant to be watched as part of a series. Of course this video focuses on the LTTE and what they did, and spends comparatively less time on the actions of the Sri Lankan army. That is because in the next few videos I will be focusing on the other combatant in this conflict. After that I will, no doubt, get accusations coming from the other side. Ultimately, I hope, I will have achieved some sort of balance and, I must say, I still stand by almost all of the information presented so far in this series (with the exception of the correction above).

There has not been the deaths of so many Tamil MPs due to murder full stop, irrespective of perpetrator.

In 1981 Jaffna Library was burnt by the government forces. In this planned attack nearly 100000 Tamil books were burnt ashes. In July 1983 more than 4000 Tamils were massacred and all of their assets worth millions of dollars were burnt and looted by thugs backed by then president JR Jayawardene in Colombo. More than 60 Tamil prisoners were killed in Colombo prisons by the government in this planned attack by the government. Alex failed to mention these incidents.
As a sri lankan who moved to Australia, i will tell you that while i may not have much understanding on the diplomatic and political environment of this war, as many people seem to call out misinformation and have different stories, that this is the problem with 3rd world and second world countries. Don’t spread lies. The Sinhalese didn’t make up 50% of the Jaffna population before the Tigers emerged. According to official 1971 census by the government, Sinhalese only made up 2.9% of the population, while Tamils 95.5%. There was never a time in history where the population in Jaffna was 50% Sinhalese. You are spreading false and fake news. @@usernameis9157 The problem started with since the 1948 Ceylon Citizenship Act where a sizable Malaiyaha Tamils were disenfranchised by D.S. Senanayaka government. Then Sinhala Only Act No 33. of 1956 during SWRD's time and later pogroms initiated against Tamils in late 1950s. Language issue is the heart of this problem which was exacerbated through the Standardization Act in the 1970s by Sirimavo government where merit based university entrace was changed to a quota system limiting minority representation in government services and science. It is the continued marginalization that pushed some to resort to armed conflict. Tamil politicians are also to be blamed as well. However, most acts implemented were populist moves by then governments. Further, Tigers is an organization that is not representative of the Tamil civilian. In that case, projecting hate on a community because of the atrocities committed by a terror group is not right. Even if you forget about the Sri Lankan Tamil, the issues faced by Indian Tamils are still not addressed. They largely remain a stateless group with limited opportunities to upward social mobility. While the video provides good insight to the rebel group and their brutality, I would expect the producer to make a distinction between the rebels and the civilians and how marginalization of minority civilians occurred since independence from the Brits who are also directly responsible for the plight we are all in at present.

These individuals currently reside peacefully and hold first citizen status in most places, except for Ceylon (also known as China-loan) at present. It seems unnecessary to send back Indians who were brought to the island centuries ago by the British, particularly considering their crucial role in the production of Ceylon tea. They are the backbone of this industry.

When I started my career I met a very cool middle aged woman. I was replacing her deck. They spent all day smoking cigarettes inside the garage. Her teeth were yellow but she was very beautiful. Thank you for producing such fantastic videos. As Sinhalese Sri Lankans, we had never heard or seen the story of the Tamil side without being biased until now. I am impressed by the level of detail you provide in your series related to Sri Lanka. As someone who was born in Sri Lanka in the late 80s, I have lived through many of the events you describe in my early childhood. I remember seeing horrific scenes in the media, as there was no censorship at that time. The LTTE was bombing Colombo, and I recall walking out of several buses while travelling to school, thinking they would blow up at any given moment. Having seen all these things and hearing what both sides did, I don’t believe that either the Sri Lankan Government/Army or LTTE achieved anything. All that resulted was violence and the death of innocent people.

As someone who is also an academic how are you making a factual video that is false. Have you never done a literature review. There are so many more credible journalism videos such as from channel 4. Further there are still issues going on in the country. They stood up for is when no one did and when the sri lankan country massacred us simply for being better in some cases. Ltte stands for that, and some tamils still fight for separate homeland politically. They don't feel Sri Lankan as of yet as their politicians drilled the separate homeland concept after the British left.
I’m sorry if you are offended but I don’t think there is any suggestion in the thumbnail that Tamils, as a group, are terrorists. Of course they aren’t! But the internationally accepted name for the LTTE is the Tamil Tigers and far fewer people know the LTTE so that’s the name I went with, and I think that’s defensible. I want to also be clear that I have no bias in either direction between the Tamils and Sinhalese and, in fact, in my travels found both groups to be wonderful. I happen to be the tamil diaspora the video was speaking about. Just wish to clarify a few facts. Other than those still living in ceylon, most of the ceylonese/sri lankan tamil are doing well. I was born in Malaysia, my parents were both grade 1 civil servants. Their generation could be said to be the last bastion of the top tier non malay officers. The donation the tigers received was not something forced. Similar to how the jewish diaspora helps israel. My family used to send in the beginning, but stopped later on. Donations were supposed to be for the necessities of tamils living there. My family stopped when the funds were channeled to war. Leadership was beginning to get corrupt, as is the case with most freedom fighters, well intentioned at first, lusting for power in the end.

CORRECTION: At 3:41 I say that half the population of Jaffna had been Sinhalese. This is incorrect. On looking back at my sources I found this from Gordon Weiss: "Prior to the rise of the Tamil Tigers, around 10 per cent of the population of Jaffna had been Sinhalese who had peacefully coexisted with their neighbours for generations". Other sources (e.g. Wikipedia) put the number lower than that. I've tried to put in a correction card on the video itself but it hasn't worked. My apologies and thank you to those people who pointed this out.
Secondly, there are many comments on this video accusing me of bias. While of course it is impossible to be completely neutral, and on such a sensitive issue it is probably inevitable that many people think I have a bias one way or another, the one thing I would point out is that this video is meant to be watched as part of a series. Of course this video focuses on the LTTE and what they did, and spends comparatively less time on the actions of the Sri Lankan army. That is because in the next few videos I will be focusing on the other combatant in this conflict. After that I will, no doubt, get accusations coming from the other side.

The other statistic that is wildly wrong in this video is the claim that LTTE killed 160 Tamil members of parliament. There has not been the deaths of so many Tamil MPs due to murder full stop, irrespective of perpetrator.

5) You say that before the rise of the LTTE, half of the Jaffna population had been Sinhalese, but a quick look at government’s own census will tell you that in 1971 Sinhalese made up only 2.9% of the population and for a long time before that it was close to 0%. You clearly haven’t done your research but are only parroting claims from shady sources.
6) You rationalize SL army atrocities by saying it’s “understandable” why they would behave like that given the circumstances but you don’t qualify LTTE atrocities in the same way but instead you detail them without any context. clearly shows your bias. For example, what triggered the Anuradhapura massacre was this massacre carried out in Prabhakaran's home town:

Prabhakaran - Karaiyar, Pottu Amman - Vellalar, Tamilselvan - Dalit. The organisation was not formed around caste, but around Tamil nationalism. Btw unless you have access to the LTTE's member caste % then all these claims are based on conjecture, not solid statistics.
(2) Spamming a bunch of massacres against Muslims after 1990 does not mean anything. The situation changed then. As Ameer Ali a Muslim scholar from Kattankudy himself said in the article I sent you:

In 1981 Jaffna Library was burnt by the government forces. In this planned attack nearly 100000 Tamil books were burnt ashes. In July 1983 more than 4000 Tamils were massacred and all of their assets worth millions of dollars were burnt and looted by thugs backed by then president JR Jayawardene in Colombo. More than 60 Tamil prisoners were killed in Colombo prisons by the government in this planned attack by the government. Alex failed to mention these incidents.

As a sri lankan who moved to Australia, i will tell you that while i may not have much understanding on the diplomatic and political environment of this war, as many people seem to call out misinformation and have different stories, that this is the problem with 3rd world and second world countries. The political figures can take advantage of the people and start meaningless conflicts for their own benefits. Thank you for producing such fantastic videos. As Sinhalese Sri Lankans, we had never heard or seen the story of the Tamil side without being biased until now. I am impressed by the level of detail you provide in your series related to Sri Lanka. As someone who was born in Sri Lanka in the late 80s, I have lived through many of the events you describe in my early childhood. I remember seeing horrific scenes in the media, as there was no censorship at that time. The LTTE was bombing Colombo, and I recall walking out of several buses while travelling to school, thinking they would blow up at any given moment. Having seen all these things and hearing what both sides did, I don’t believe that either the Sri Lankan Government/Army or LTTE achieved anything. All that resulted was violence and the death of innocent people.

At the end last two Sinhala men who worked in a bakery shop in Jaffna were tighten to an electric pole and burned alive in 1992 by LTTE

If this hasn’t been done intentionally, I assume it is because the original source to your information obtained was produced by the Sri Lankan government. Most mainstream material available on the LTTE was provided by the Sri Lanka government. As someone who is also an academic how are you making a factual video that is false. Have you never done a literature review. There are so many more credible journalism videos such as from channel 4. Further there are still issues going on in the country. They stood up for is when no one did and when the sri lankan country massacred us simply for being better in some cases. Look at the different entry requirements between tamils and sinhalese for education. They stopped that. If you lived in a society like that you would not even be where you are. Imagine your university requirement being different based on race.

Ltte stands for that, and some tamils still fight for separate homeland politically. They don't feel Sri Lankan as of yet as their politicians drilled the separate homeland concept after the British left.

But the internationally accepted name for the LTTE is the Tamil Tigers and far fewer people know the LTTE so that’s the name I went with, and I think that’s defensible. This video clearly looks like a well-paid one because he concentrates on and contains the Tamil's struggle within child soldiers and suicide bombers (Eelam Tamil's Self-benefactors), whereas he glorifies the Sri Lankan military and its invasion and occupation of the Tamils' homeland, i.e., Tamil Eelam.
The sources he used were written by Sri Lanka supporters and those who were in its favour. They are not neutral sources. As it's a video glorifying the Sinhalese victory over the Eelam Tamils and taming our freedom struggle as terrorism, as usual, the comment section is filled with Sinhalese who are appreciating and praising the video and the maker, who did this for money.
Mark my words: sooner this video will be widespread, and the foreign-born Eelam Tamils will promote it and learn their history through it. Even now, I could clearly see some Tamils in the comment section appreciating this video. But I'm not sure 100% they are Tamils, because even Sinhalese with a fake Tamil name could comment like Tamils appreciated this video.
This will result in our own future generations spitting up their own authentic, brave history because of the laziness and unwillingness of the present Eelam Tamil generation.

I happen to be the tamil diaspora the video was speaking about. Just wish to clarify a few facts.
Other than those still living in ceylon, most of the ceylonese/sri lankan tamil are doing well. I was born in Malaysia, my parents were both grade 1 civil servants. Their generation could be said to be the last bastion of the top tier non malay officers. The donation the tigers received was not something forced. Similar to how the jewish diaspora helps israel. My family used to send in the beginning, but stopped later on. Donations were supposed to be for the necessities of tamils living there. My family stopped when the funds were channeled to war. Leadership was beginning to get corrupt, as is the case with most freedom fighters, well intentioned at first, lusting for power in the end.
