"people come here and i just make coffee" what a legend.
Holy Shit! I’m sitting here digging on the vintage mics when I see a Neve that looks awfully familiar! When I heard Hit Factory it all came back! If that’s the desk I think it is, I was inches away from buying that in the mid 80s!
its vids like this that make me wanna slap everyone that has told me "you need to isolate your guitars" Bruh... some of the greatest records you've ever heard were recorded in a live setting, with clever use of baffles and positioning, but still a bunch of people in one room playing a song at full volume, there is a feel to it you simply don't get when everything is isolated and recorded separately.
I love this guys approach! I hate producing cliche-sounding records, the weirder the better! Thanks for the video, Rhett, really interesting
Can you make an 8 hour version of this video? It was fantastic. Maybe my favorite vid you’ve done, no fooling.
Oh man I loved that place! I recorded there with a group in 2017. Best studio I’ve been too and everyone was super pleasant to work with!
This will send a steady stream of traffic to Clouds Hill, once it reaches circulation. He does not have everything, but he has the right things. Wow.
This is exactly how recording should be done. IMO it's the way music is captured with the soul of the artist intent. Just look at the great recordings of the past
Wow, great first studio tour video. Johann basically has a PhD in recording by significant experience. His memory of all the equipment models and how they function is amazing, especially the older analog stuff.
So inspiring to listen to what Johann has to say and seeing how he lives music. Great guy, awesome studio! Thanks for the behind the scenes.
I had the pleasure of recording at some awesome studios back in the 90's including Mono Valley, Rockfield, Church Studios, Townhouse etc... All live, straight to tape, a billion cables and patches, scary splice edits - so nice to see young un's carrying it on.
German people’s multi lingual abilities are amazing. Imagine someone asking you in German, “What is the genesis of this?”

The Mars Volta made vinyl remasters of all their catalogue in that studio, and I think that Omar also recorded some of his albums here, I was amazed the first time that i saw this studio, immediately wanted to be there :D I'm jealous!!
Okay, this place is seriously cool, and it’s obvious how much Johann cares about getting the “right” sound for the musicians working in his space. So much versatility in just those few rooms.
If he used everything at once, he would create a hole in space-time. WOW! What a studio. Thank you for the tour.
Loved it thank you Rhett. Analogue - get it sounding right and commit!!
Rhett - thank you so much for posting this video, this is an amazing studio, one i'd love to track in. I think we need to see more of these studio tour videos before, well, it's too late and everyone is sitting in their under garments, in their bedroom 'tracking' in the box! ...these places need to to live on!!
coincidentally, I've been bumping the Bosnian Rainbows full length all week. (he mentions it around
