  • While editing a longer video I found a good example of doing my departure briefing. Many ask about that all the time so I figured I would put this quick clip to show what I do, BUT always keeping in mind that this is NOT for instructional purposes.

      I don't see the need to say things out loud. When I'm by myself, no one can hear it. When I have passengers they don't know what it means unless they are pilots.

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  4 года назад +1

      The comprehension level of your brain when you both think it, speak it and hear it is tremendously higher than just reading it. If you have guests on board, they will be thankful and impressed that they see that you have a process, and if you don’t care about sharing with them just mute their audio and tell them “I will mute you momentarily while I go through my checklists”. They will appreciate it.

      @@NikosWings I think some pilots do it to impress their passengers with something they know and the passengers don't. Pilots do that a lot--and not just in the cockpit.

    Very good example of setting your mind for the flight.
    I am doing the same, it is good to have the options in your "short term memory" available - hopefully - automatically for the one day that I might need it. I do have noticed however that I sometimes get a bit lazy with doing it when I am doing the flight back from somewhere with only a short break or when a passenger is on board. I do try to improve here and lately I became a bit more strict about it! Always learn, always improve and be honest to yourself in order to stay a good pilot! 👍 👍 👍

      I use a checklist before takeoff. I never say it out loud. It just seems silly when I'm by myself and with passengers it doesn't mean anything to them anyway. I don't do a formal departure briefing. I know from thousands of takeoffs what I will do if something happens. I'm not a professional pilot. I don't want to be one.

    Excellent video on the checklist that you go through before taking to the air. You are a careful pilot and that is a good thing. I would like to see your thoughts on your last Cirrus compared to your current one. Is this a turbo 4 cylinder? Safe flights to you Niko. You keep flying, I'll keep watching.

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  4 года назад +1

      The SR22 are 6 cylinder and this one is the twin turbo as opposed to the old one that was normally aspirated. Big difference is the power you feel the climb performance and the fact that you generate 100% power all the way to 25,000 which is the ceiling of the airplane. And of course speed is massively increased above 10,000 feet. Engine management is a breeze in the turbos since you don’t need to lean the mixture during climb.

    • @karlkascha1261
      @karlkascha1261 4 года назад

      @@NikosWings Thank you for the informative response Niko. Does having twin turbos change servicing intervals? Oil changes? Sparkplug change? Engine overhaul? Do you run synthetic oil? It sounds like you are really happy with this aircraft. It certainly is a beautiful small aircraft, and very fast for a non-retractable. You also have weight savings and lower complexity associated with a fixed gear aircraft.

    Just a quick question, whats your opinion on ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT ? and if you could get distance out of one , would that interest you ?

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  4 года назад +1

      I drive Tesla all electric cars for the past 4 years and have been driving electric hybrids before then since 2012. Some Tesla cars can go more than 300 miles on a charge which is good for a car but not much for an airplane. Also consider that cars soar with little power requirement and at highway speeds which are very slow compared to airplane speeds. For an airplane to fight the constant drag generated by lift at speeds at least double or triple than a car and to lift the entire weight of the airplane and contents to altitude at at least 1000 feet per minute requires tremendous amounts of energy that battery packs don’t have yet and won’t have for another decade.

    Niko, do you have a plan for loss of power on takeoff? Do you use Google maps to analyse potential landing site(s) from the runway you use? So golf courses, freeways, beaches, etc etc....

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  4 года назад

      Always a plan for a landing, but best plan is less than 600 feet AGL 30 degrees left or right, alternate airports and landing strips within range, above 600 to 2000 I pull the chute, above 2000 I troubleshoot and if no fix at 1000 I pull the chute.
