- I've always adored the 8th Gen Honda Civic Si Mugen Editions and was lucky enough to not only film the build, but also test drive it! The Fiji Blue looks stunning on this Mugen Si and even in its stock form, (besides CAI, Tein Lowering Springs and short shifter) the car is truly a beauty. Test driving this car made me want an 8th Gen Honda Civic Si really bad so hopefully we can own one soon :)

I worked at a Honda Dealership when Honda came out with the Mugen and I remember thinking that we would never sell a $30,000 Civic. We kept that Civic for over 1 year before we finally sold it for well under invoice, just to get rid of it. Really cool car, but it was hard to explain the huge difference in price between the Mugen and the SI with hardly no gain in horsepower.
It's crazy what limited quantity will do to a car's value! That's a really cool anecdote though thanks for sharing :)

I remember when I bought mine brand new almost 15 years ago. They are fun cars. Lots of stares.
I almost bought the mugen si in 07 but like you said it really was just a body kit and rims, but the tires were really expensive at the time to replace.. so I paid 22k for the regular si sedan .. tax title and license and a 5 year loan I paid just over 27k total over 5 years.. my car payment was 400 a month and my insurance was 130 … Still got my si today .. put it up for sale a while back cause I drive my truck now exclusively .. I took a guy on a test drive and showed him what it was all about, pulled into my drive way and said, sorry dude I think I’m gonna keep it. The car is just so fun to drive.
Bought one and still have it 327,000 miles original everything still. I love my C6 corvette but this gives you such a different thrill 👍🏼

First time filming and test driving a Mugen Honda Civic Si and I have to say I see the hype now! The bodykit adds just the right amount of spice to the body while still retaining an OEM look. I also really love the high redline, let me know if you’re a fan of the Mugen Si :)

This looks like a Civic Si simple with body kit. Mugen RR was converted form of Civic FD2 Type R 8th gen and both were made for Asian market and not made or sold in America. However you can easily convert Si into Mugen RR with proper twin exhausts body kit, speedometer plate,front and tail lights, carbon hood,fenders,trunk, and bumpers etc along with wheels and brake calipers to brembo from Acura TSX.
Then you can call it a Mugen RR cuz that is all what they did to make Si to Muguen RR and you can make it even better with your own mods and this is what mugen didn't do (Stage 2 cams for 9500 RPM and K24 block with Wiseco pistons, Exceedy stage 2 clutch with new CMC then ofcourse Flash Pro and a dyno tune is must to squeeze 240-250 whp).
What you said is true, but on record it will not be a Mugen si and only a copy cat and less value.

Yeah definitely need more practice with manual, but our next project car will provide that once we get it! The K20 motors are just a joy to drive so needed to get some of the RPM's up there :)

Loved it when it was released, but disappointed that Mugen didn't do much more to it performance wise. Feels like they missed out on a real good opportunity to really make it special IMO.

They couldn't because it was getting too expensive. These didn't sell well as they were. Many sold for regular Si prices.
@@andydhillon1977 that's the point though. IMO, they could've sold more Mugen models if they made it more special besides a lip kit and wheels lol. I know there were more Mugen touches, but ultimately, you'd be better off with a regular Si than a Mugen model.
@@airfryerdeluxe5543 I guess that's where we disagree. Not many people were willing to pay close to $30k for a Civic back then, no matter what upgrades it had., especially if the power increase was minimal. $30k opened up the options for "better cars for the money".
I'm happy they made the car though. Once I put a K24A2 into mine, and some bolt-ons, the car will be exactly what I think it should've been from the factory.
Just got an 2011 si sedan I love the car so fun to drive I highly recommend it’s a great daily too I love the 8000 rpm redline especially when the vtec crossover hits

I love this car and almost bought one brand new in 2008. I’m glad I didn’t even now I can’t justify the 30k msrp. It was way to slow for the price range but love the Mugen aero add one just not for the price difference

Def nice, but let’s face it. It’s a regular 8th gen Si with a bodykit. They did add some things that separate it from the regular Si’s, but it’s just a glamorized Si. They dropped the ball in making this better. Should’ve upped the power to like 230-250hp.
I myself have a Type R, and while do these catch my eye, some people sell it because of the fact that it’s “1000” made. Which is very cool, but come on. Someone can def make a replica and people wouldn’t notice.

What shifter did you put in? I've got the Mugen short shifter, stock Mugen Si suspension, braided brake lines and clutch hose, along with the stiffer shifter springs from Hybrid Racing in my FA5 and that's it. It's such a fun car; cheers!

Don’t know why Honda does not offer the Mugen body kits for the current Honda kinda like dodge and there SRT division, Honda would probably make a killing with Mugen body kits and performance parts. Imagine being alike to buy an 11th gen Mugen SI and 11th gen type R Mugen from factory.

I didn’t know these were that rare saw one new in a showroom years ago, same color and everything and couldn’t believe the price it was over 30k, crazy they only made 1000 and one was around my area. Beautiful looking car but no engine mods just suspension and styling, hold onto it, there is something about having a rare car that no ones else has

Well it does have an exhaust. So a simple intake and a Hondata tuner wakes it up a bit
Red Honda badges are only for Type-R models, lesser Civic models are not worthy of such a badge.

You would think that the “mugen si” would have the 8th Gen civic mugen pedal covers stock. It has the same pedal covers as the 8th Gen Si/CSX Type S and FD2 Type R and the same clutch and brake pedal covers as the 10th Gen Type R, 07-08 Acura TL Type S 6spd Manual. Type S has beefier gas pedal so the cover is bigger too.
I have not seen the 9th Gen Si gas pedal cover but it’s probably different. 2023 CTR FL5 and 2024 ITS have completely new pedal cover designs.
I removed the ones from my CSX Type S because they are 💩 Poo Gen bootlegs. I got some covers off 2 crashed FG2 Si 8th gens at my local wrecking yards.

I'm sure there are those that'll think my comment is total sacrilege but oh well... I'd really enjoy owning one of these but I wouldn't have it much time before the K20 was pulled and shelved and a moderately built K24A2 went in it's place. Not a ridiculous build that called for E85 but rather something you could daily if so desired. Honda did an excellent job with this machine but failed miserably under the hood. Dependable yes, impressive no IMHO.

Not saying that any of those brand names are bad product at all because they're of excellent quality. That's why I've always been a loner in that community. The only way to tell the Mugen si from another si is the door jam sticker. The Mugen will say 18 inch wheels and the normal si will say 17 inch. There's really nothing special about these at all. You can literally purchase every add on this car comes with. You can also have the inside door jam stick made to say 18 inch. There's no real way to tell a rep from a real production Mugen si.
All the hype for nothing... At the end of the day it's just a basic fa5 with Mugen parts

@@abc.garage oh very true. I'm not hating on the car. I own a 08 fa5, it's the one Honda that ever caught my eye. I was just stating that 1-1000 don't really mean squat due to the fact there's no way to tell if it's authentic or a replica 🤷. They did it with special editions type r but couldn't due it to the Mugen fa5 when there's only 1000 produced. I wanted one at one time till I found out no stamp and that they could be faked if done correctly. Enjoy your car though.. the fa5 is really fun to drive 😁. Currently waiting for snow to go away so I can install suspension on mine and put my SSR type c RS on her.

These were really nothing all that special. Honda shipped one to every dealer and some still had theirs a year later. Nothing more than a slightly tarted up SI for a whole lot more money. They attracted a lot of wannabes. The owner here was a fool to let those guys drive it!
