As someone who is new to this hobby, this video is very good and is not intimidating with many technical terms. I appreciate it. Thank you!
Honestly the most helpful video for via. Im a new keeb enthusiast and most videos dont really show how to configure keyboards. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making this video! I just got an NK65 Milkshake Ed. and when I downloaded VIA I was a bit overwhelmed. The layers are what really threw me off and I need to learn more about macros.
Again, thank you so much for this tutorial, I am learning so much about the keyboard community, and having access to guides like this will help me and many more newcomers.
This video right here has been the only one that explained it well enough for me and I finally got my RM60 rgb set up and ready!
This was the best video I've found so far on how to use VIA, you got yourself a sub! Thanks again for the help! :)
Thanks so much! Appreciate the sub as well!
My first time to learn about Via and this video is really quick and easy to understand. Thank you! Keep it up!
Thanks Austin, great tutorial,
Even 3 years later this is still relevant.
This was so dang helpful. So much simpler than QMK. Thanks!
Yeah I really like the VIA UI and how much better it is than standard QMK
great video idk how this doesn't have more views
thank u!
this literally saved my life and should have way more views
Glad you found it useful! Appreciate the love!
Thank you for this video/tutorial! You laid out everything in a easy to follow and simple method. I'm not the biggest expert on keyboards/PCBs, and I was stressed out about my recent build. The PCB came with no FN or " ? " key by default and was confused. Lo and behold, VIA was what I needed :) thanks again!
thank you dude. My kbd 75 v2 light changed and I didn't even have a fn set which makes 0 sense to me but this fixed it and I got to add a delete to the board on layer 1. Helps so much when coding
It really wanted you to move it to Trash. I am glad you stood up for yourself.
The best tutorial by far. I was in search of something like this for a couple of days and I am glad I have finally found you. Thanks!
very useful. Not one single unnecessary bit of information
Great video! I'm fairly new to VIA. I was having trouble figuring out how to flash QMK firmware onto my GMMK Pro on Linux. After frying my brain, I needed my hand held with VIA. Thanks for making it easy!
Thanks for sharing! I've just gotten into the mechanical keyboards and this is so useful!
Extra points for the chill vibe and music ;)
AHHHHHHH thank you so much. Holy crap I've been trying to work out these layer things for a while and it was driving me mad. You are a hero!
Thank you very much for the video, it was a pleasure to watch and I learned everything that I wanted.
perfect video, this helped me out greatly, thank you sir!
Nice tutorial video! Next month I'll get Keychron K8 Pro keyboard, and then try to configure VIA.
Dude I was getting so frustrated trying to change a few of my keys with VIA, this video saved me so much time trying to figure out the little thing I kept skipping over because the browser version wouldn't work for me
subscribed and liked, for information and made my new dz60rgb board rgb work!
Thanks for the video I was super confused with this! :D
Appreciate the help fam. Thank you.
Thank you Austin for this video. Jean at KBD Fans recommended it as a. means for me to reconfigure and turn on the lighting on my Tofu keyboard.
brilliant video, thank you
This was so helpful. Thank you because I felt so lost loll
I have the same keyboard as you but when I am on the configure tab it just says searching for devices. On the keytester it says im pressing keys though what do i do?
same :(
Awesome video. Super helpful
Doesnt work at all. It searches for the device... and nothing happens
Great video, thanks. I am new to programmable keyboards and was wondering, before buying one, if a new layer can be put on just temporary (e.g. like fn+key) or it stays on until you change it again (e.g. like caps lock)?
Hey Austin, do you know if you can make a macro to open an application without creating a shortcut on your deskop? Windows 10 is pretty slow with keycommand shortcuts.
Awesome video. VIA's documentation is a little hard to understand. This video gives a great overview!
Thanks so much!
Did you have to flash a firmware from qmk before via recognized the board? I have the same board coming in this week, and I'm confused as to whether I need to use qmk first, then flash the via enabled firmware, and THEN go into via, or if I can just open via and start working from there.
Good explanation for new people to the hobby like me! Just wondering if you know if it is possible to add letters like åäö to the keymap?
If you have a long text macro, for example a few sentances of text, does it type it all out at once in one quick fowl swoop or does it type it out somewhat slowly?
thanks alot you helped me out!
Is it possible to delete the software after reconfiguring the keys? And good job in making the video digestible for newbies! Appreciate it haha
Does VIA need to run in the background for the changes to work? Or is it a set it up once and you're good to go?
Hi, this video was super helpful for me. I was way out of the loop but your video made it easy to understand. I am still having trouble on one thing... The "Home" and "End" button don't work for my Mac. I've even tried assigning them on Layer 1 but they do nothing. Do you know any way to make them work for Mac?
There is no longer a download link on the VIA website...is the app no longer available to download?
I'm wondering the same!
hi Thanks for the tutorial do you have the tutorial for uploading firmware to a new keyboard/ keypad ?
Hi, i would like to know if it is possible to modify the scan/polling rate with via ! It's for Vertical Scroll Rythm Game that requires high reaction time to stay accurate all the long
thank you're the best
wow thank u
Hey mate awesome video :) Just one question in case you know. If you use both OSX and Windows machines with the same keyboard, is it possible to have different configurations on each and use them when plugging in the keyboard, or you need to open up VIA and change it on the spot?
Probably latter. Or use a config that works for both.
@@Camachameleon thanks for the reply mate. I ended up using 2 different layers dedicated to each layout and interchange between them. Works great :)
@@pa1nk1ller14 so you use layer 1 for windows, and layer 2 for mac?
@@feerdanfm actually 1 and 3 as i use the inbetween layers for other functionalities but yeah. You can toggle a specific layer and map different keys
got a question. do i need to go through qmk to use via? i have never used a qmk/via board before. thanks.
Are macros the only way to assign multiple actions to one key? I ask because I have a keypad that came with keys set to things like "Ctrl+V" by default and I'd like to move these around.
Do you need to do anything before downloading VIA? I’m thinking of getting a dz65rgb v2 pcb
new to keyboard modding and building...will this work with most PCB's? Keychron k2 for instance. looking into getting and modding stated board as a learning experience
do you know how to get your keyboard to connect to via if it doesnt automatically?
Check and see if your keyboard is supported with the list on the via site.
I went to the page from where I ordered my keyboard and they had a download link in the keyboard description.
If that’s not an option for you, you can look at a list of firmware on the via website and find your keyboard listed.
Thankyouuu !
thank you buddy !
do i need the configurator open to use the keyboard or will it work like qmk where you plug it in and works with whatever computer you plug into?
Can't download VIA anymore its all on the website, it detects my keyboard but nothing happens after that :S
You need to select your keyboard in window that opens when via detects it.
Are there no Fn key remap? Can I not remap Fn+del to forward delete?
Hey Austin,
Quick question, could I map a keyboard so that when I type res in that sequence it would type out a whole word such as Respondent or app for Applicant, this would save me so much time to have shortcuts to type legal documents. Thanks in advance!
Hello, is it possible that when the number lock is on, it assign different key of any keys? As I use TKL keyboard, I wanna set the number keys into 3*3 matrix keys when the number lock is on.
is it possible to create macros to open chosen software? (pressing a key to instantly open Zoom, Google Chrome etc)
could you tell me how to add support to my keyboard "xbows knight plus"
as when i check the firmware downloaded from the repo, it does say VIA_enable: YES
yet via does not recognize the keyboard
[it might be that i run a older firmware]
VIA has a setup for layer locked mechanism? Or it needs to hold FN key always when switching to another layer?
Hey! thanks for the awesome tutorial! i own a mw65 and whenever I switch the lighting tab it doesn't load. how can I fix this?
Thanks!!!
Unfortunately for me the mouse buttons don't work on mac (i.e. KC_MS_BTN1 or KC_MS_UP) Were you able to use them?
what keyboard do you use @Austinv
Hello.. I hope this gets a reply. Do you know how to keymap or add midi inputs to a qmk keyboard?
If I solder manually LEDs to my KBD67 Rev2 65% (VIA compatible), will it be possible to control the lights?
Does the configuration that you set work if you the keyboard is connect to another computer?
is there a way to reset your keyboard to default? accidentally made my Fn key into something else and i can't see an option to reset the Fn key
if i made changes to keybinds on my computer and plugged it into another computer, would my settings be saved or would it go back to its stock settings?
thank you so much :) is there a way to change the lighting of a single key on the nk65?
Lmk if someone answers this. I’m also curious
Hi, can someone help me? I recently bought dz60 and I'm a beginner with mapping keyboard. I need to map '/?' key (ansi layout) to arrow key which I already did but still want to use the '/?' key for combo (rshift + '/?' key) to get the character "?". Just don't know how to do that combo and result to a specific character. My target is the RK61 layout and how it works. Thank you in advance
How do you switch between different profiles, my keyboard keeps switching profiles randomly and don’t know what buttons I’m pressing to do that
What does the down pointing triangle key mean in layer 1?
On the websites there isn't a download via button.
same, it only have 'start now', and it only go to the website and not download the app
Is there a way to change the key caps shown in the software?
hi sir , do you know how to toggle some key with on off ? does VIA has such function ?
Can I ask what ADV does, on your capslock and right shift?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice, thanks
fantastic video. Just one questions. If you accidentally remap one of the arrow keys... how do you get that arrow key back? I couldn't find it in VIA anywhere. (TOFU DZ v2 Board)
Thanks! I don't see them either. Best way I can think is to use the "ANY" button and map it to a QMK code like KC_DOWN, KC_UP, etc.
@@AustinV yea.... its um right in front of our faces. You look for the words LEFT ARROW lol.
If i buy a us layout keyboard, can i bind nordic letters like ä,ö,å to maybe like alt+a?
VIA doesn't support my keyboard (GMMK 2), do you know which file I need to import to work in VIA?
QMK is already installed.
Is there any type of FN lock or a way to hit the F keys without holding the FN key?
Mine didn't auto connect even though I'm using a supported keyboard?
can this do let each key have two fuction? example: toggle capslock is capslock, but hold it will be fn1 or others?
Can you configure Mac keys? (Command key etc)
I don’t want to buy a Keycron keyboard, but I use Mac for work.
I have a few keyboards I ordered for personal use at home, NK87, KBD Fans M8XX, and the Ikki 68, but I’m waiting for them to arrive so I haven’t tested.
hey sir i installed via and a keytester works and recognise the keys but in the first folder, the app is still searching for device, i need to flash the board or how its should done? (i am useing hungaryan windows so the z and y is switched and at the 0 key i type ö and etc.but i need those so maybe if i flash those are going to be gone?
after i use via to update the keyboards with macros. when i go to another computer without via, will the macros still work on the keyboard?
i have a quick question what does the power or power osx do ?
On Mac Sonoma using a Nuphy Air75 V2 in wired mode the VIA web App works fine. The issue is when I use the keyboard in Bluetooth mode. Any modified keys don't work unless a USB cable is attached only then do modified keys work as expected.
I have a keyboard with a split space bar thing and I think that the space bar spots came unbinded and idk how to make the 6.5 spot a spacebar how do I do that?
this video seemed so helpful but i still have no idea how to change my lighting on my dz60 pcb. it just doesn’t work
how to make the question mark on the right shift key. so when i want to use shift, i hold. and when i want to use question mark, ill just tap. thank you
I was playing auround in VIA and lost my ö and ä keys. Is it possyble to get them back?
thanks!
is there a way to make a key behave differetly if i hold the key? like i micro board and i set a key to play pause. but i want it to activate a macro if i hold it, how can that be done?
How do you type the LT(2,kc_del) on to that key on the right side??
Please help. it tried to use macro but it didnt work
