I think given how much both the teaser & trailer focus on Mary and how we still hear much more of her thoughts/lines vs George, I feel like this series is aiming to portray Mary as the mastermind and George as essentially tagging along. Especially that "being raised by a monster" line. And besides making George sleep with the king, Mary is also putting in her own "work," which I don't think we saw her kiss anyone in the teaser. When historian Kate Lister reviewed The Favorite, she did mention that being the monarch's favorite was an extremely dangerous game to play (especially because depending on the politics, you now have A LOT of people against you that even the monarch's protection has limits) but if you played it well, the rewards were extraordinary.
It is worth noting that while the line of George through his actual wife (not the King) became extinct (4 children total, but only one son and one daughter survived to adulthood, the son had no children and the daughter's two children had no children), that George's siblings through Mary and his half siblings through his father's first wife were ancestors of much of the modern British nobility. Prince William descends from Mary (via George's full siblings Christopher Villiers and Susan Villiers) and from George's half siblings (via both Sir Edward Villiers and Elizabeth Villiers) through Diana. King Charles descends from George's half sibling Sir Edward Villiers through the Queen Mother's Bentinck line.

I think my absolute favorite thing about this is that Nick’s character is talked about by Henry in RWRB (at least the book - I can’t remember if he talked about the statue in the movie.)

I can't wait to see this show - the Duke of Buckingham and his mother are such fascinating characters in history and the Jacobean period is so overlooked beyond the gunpowder plot! Really looking ofrward to seeing your reaction to the series as well - King James and his male lovers are such an important part of Queer history!

Dozens of references to the word tyrant were removed. It’s ironic that for centuries the King James bible was read by devout Christians in England and the USA… It was a political ploy to boost his image and silence critics - and it worked !😈

The concept of gaining power from the love or favoritism of a higher authority in "Mary & George" reminds me of the movie "The Favourite." Olivia Coleman's Queen Anne plays favoritism between Rachel Weisz's Sarah Churchill and Emma Stone's Abigail. Given that both are set during that time of Kings and Queens, servants and ladies in waiting, etc., this gives more insight into what was happening behind closed doors in those palaces. There are some things the textbooks are telling you.

I think you guys didn't do any research before you did this review. Lots of "gay guessing", but this has serious historical truths in it. Number 1, George Villiers was from the aristocracy and pushed into the King's presence by his mother, realizing that after his first male lover he introduced the most beautiful man he had ever seen "George Villiers" to his court. he gave him the title of "The First Duke of Buckingham" ring any bells? The name of the seat of the Royals in the UK, is Buckingham Palace, named after the family line from George Villiers. Since you guys view this from a "Gay" perspective you will probably love watching this version of history (with a proper historian telling his side of his research on the subject. I can highly recommend his book on the subject. Watch this guys, before you watch the series. Trust me you'll find it interesting.
