    I remember many people complaining about how big the game is but look at some newer games people grew to love open world games such as bow, and many others.

    It's wild to think about what a huge paradigm shift was happening in 2000. Games like Tekken Tag Tournament were sharing shelf space with 8-bit Game Boy titles, and a genre that was leading the industry only two years prior was already being treated as kinda musty.
    For the QotD, my fave N64 sequel has gotta be Pokemon Stadium 2. It not only adds more challenging and strategic battles, but new mini-games, an in-depth guide for raising and breeding Pokemon in the main games and tons more! Plus, the sparkling cartridge looks really cool

    IMO I always thought Banjo Tooie was better than the original and I still think that to this day. I think it suffers from being compared to the first one too much, which people have more nostalgia on.

    Favorite N64 sequel is Majora's Mask, but that is my favorite series, so it just about goes without saying. That being said, Star Fox 64 is very close, if we consider sequels to games from older consoles.

    Yes, this really is a classic, that's for sure. Surprised it took Nintendo this long to add it. As for the question, think I'll go with the sequel to WWF WrestleMania 2000 and that being WWF No Mercy. Hey, like many in the wrestling community would tell you, that is one of the best wrestling games out there.

    Zelda Majora's Mask is without a doubt the best sequel. No contest, a game on the same level of the greatest game ever at the time, The Ocarina of Time

    Looking forward to finally getting to play this one! I fully cleared both Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 waaayyy back in the day, but I think that when this game released it was 2001 in Europe-land and I was going all in on the GBA for my present that year. Threw me right into the world of Metroidvania's, but there was no time or place for N64 games from that day on. So I guess I'm gonna find out if the VERY large worlds, from what I hear, is somehing I can tolerate now or if it's gonna drive me up a wall.
    Also, while SEGA has been missing for a year it was also the longest break between N64 releases EVER, with 122 days passing between N64 titles. I wonder if Nintendo have simply decided they wanted to prioritize releasing GBA titles over SEGA games for now- though it's a bummer if they have so little resources to devote to this that they can't actually balance between having both MD and GBA games.

      I think the thing that annoys me about the handling of the Genesis/Mega Drive is that Nintendo is asking people to pay extra with the promise that the Expansion Pack systems will be supported. If the Sega console was in the normal, vanilla NSO tier, I might not even bring it up. After all, you can only expect so much from $20 a year. The fact that it costs so much extra and there's no transparency really rubs me the wrong way.

  • @kitestar
    @kitestar 15 часов назад +2

    7:06 tbh I think it might’ve been that m2 themselves were too busy with…things like the dominus collection or whatever new shottriggers port they’re coming up with. How do I know that m2 is behind the genesis library? The app has been datamined to uncover the emulator used is the same one on the genesis/mega drive mini…
    QOTD it’s a toss up between tooie and majora’s mask but if you pressed me for an answer, it’ll be tooie all the way (I could go without being reminded that majora is depressing tonal wise)

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  15 часов назад +1

      A little transparency would go a long way, especially when people are being asked to pay extra for the potential of more Genesis games.

    • @kitestar

      @@DefunctGames agreed, if I was in Nintendo’s position, I’d at least ask the developers of our legal emulators “what’s the hold up?”

    • @goranisacson2502
      @goranisacson2502 4 часа назад

      Didn't actually know it was M2 behind the Mega Drive ports- makes me wonder though if it's really something so simple as them being busy. Haven't they developed other port collections while we got MD games for NSO? Unless they've ramped up production the sad answer might just be that Nintendo and Sega don't feel like making more business deals and paying for more MD games. Perhaps they prioritize getting GBA games out, since I feel like every since GBA became a thing last year we stopped getting MD games.

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  4 часа назад

      It depends on when the games will come out. If they reveal a bunch of new games, but the release is six months away, then I'll probably hold off until the week before they actually come out. That's basically what I did with the Tetris (NES) reveal. They announced it so early that I decided to wait until around the time it would actually come out. Now, if what is revealed is scheduled to come out two or three weeks later, then I'll most likely do a Review Crew episode right away.

      There are a lot of great Genesis games that could be added to the service that are not in any of the Sega collections. That is, however, not really the point. The issue is that Nintendo had people pay extra to play Genesis games and then abandoned the Genesis library. It has been well over a year now without a title, and that's a misstep on their part.

    • @ShadowEl
      @ShadowEl 14 часов назад +1

      @@DefunctGames Unfortunately it makes sense that Nintendo would prioritize their own library over SEGA's. We have no idea how the Genesis/MD game selection process works, it's possible that it's more complicated than Nintendo's other apps.
      We do know that the Genesis/MD emulator was developed externally by M2, as opposed to Nintendo's internal NERD division that has developed their other emulators.

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  14 часов назад +1

      @ShadowEl I don't necessarily disagree, but when you're asking people to pay extra (and still promoting the Genesis as if they are actively releasing new games), then it's clear that we need some sort of transparency. There may be very good reasons, but without more information, it just looks bad when you can go nearly 500 days without a Genesis update.

    it's pretty remarkable all the big time mistakes nintendo has made over the years (virtual boy, sticking with cartridges, the DS launch, wii u) yet they STILL are a powerhouse in the industry. Meanwhile microsoft dropped the ball with the xbox one and looks like they will never recover

      From a worldwide perspective, Microsoft has always been on shaky ground. They really only had one good generation, which saw the Xbox 360 essentially tie with the PlayStation 3. Microsoft's problem is that they have never been able to successfully break into the Japanese market, putting them at a distinct disadvantage compared to both Nintendo and Sony. No matter what they do, they end up coming in last place place, with PlayStation often outselling the Xbox by a significant margin. Couple that with the fact that they spent the last decade relying almost exclusively on Halo, Gears of War and Forza, and it's easy to see why the PlayStation 5 is outselling the Xbox Series X by a factor of three to one. Other problems they've made include training their audience to not buy games, giving up support of their systems early when it's clear they aren't going to come in first, trying to buy up every publisher/developer they can get their hands on and creating unnecessary confusion through their naming conventions. Nintendo's mistakes are showier, but Microsoft already starts with a disadvantage and continues to make the same mistakes in every generation.

      @DefunctGames i also think Microsoft has always been only half in the console sector and more focused on its pc and Windows development, which is lets face it where they make most of their money. the xbox sector has always in my view been a bit of a sideshow for Microsoft.
