Even after everything he's done to him, batman would have saved him, no matter what, and those extreme words of kindness kill joker's vision of reality, and so himself, a catalyst for his own nihilism

They always talk about how legendary Arkham Batman was, but forget Arkham Joker
I played this game thousands of times but when batman said " after everything you've done I would have saved you." That line sent a chill up my spine because he really saw joker again as a broken friend and not a villain you can tell how much passion he has in his voice he really did care for joker even after everything he's done.

When asked why, the scorpion says it was simply its nature. Joker would’ve been saved by Batman, but instead attacked him causing Bats to drop the cure. Joker was compelled by his nature, pure mercurial chaos 😢. Absolute epic ending to an epic game.
Crazy cause I first heard this story in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 🐢 episode, but it fits incredible well here to the nature of these characters.

I love this scene so much. The reason Batman appears to “mourn” the Joker, isn’t because he is sad that he is dead, but because he feels as if he has failed his mission. Bruce believes that anyone, no matter how broken or insane, could be rehabilitated. His main effort regarding the Joker was to bring him back into the light, but seeing as how Joker died such a needless and abrupt death, Bruce will never know if his efforts would have payed off.
As for Joker’s perspective, although he didn’t directly make Batman break his golden rule, he did realize in his final moments that Batman was just as crazy as himself. “I would have saved you… “ is such a mentally unstable thing to say to the man who literally murdered your adopted son and girlfriend. And of course, in his final moments, Joker found this fucking hilarious.

Canonically that's not what they represent, it's actually the other way around. The Joker wants to 'redeem' Batman.
Think of it this way: The mere act of Batman allowing Joker to live is why Joker gets to kill and torment more and more people, Jason, Harley and the entire fall of Arkham City wouldn't have happened if Batman.... would have just killed the Joker.
In Batman's eyes the only way to right a wrong is to do right, wherein Joker understands the true nature of rottenness of the world: that to change the rotten core of the world you sometimes have to do wrong things:
The Joker's ultimate desire is to make Batman see this. That is why he left Bruce with no choice. That is why he laughs when Batman says he would have saved him, because he realizes his own desire to break Batman's unbendable desire to do good made him put himself in a situation where he essentially killed himself.
Because in the end he realized that he played his final joke on himself.
And that the world will never be too rotten to save through kindness.

Why won’t you let me die and finally end my misery?” Joker actually wants to die. He admitted to Catwoman in a comic prelude to the wedding You think I want to be like this? I can’t stop, I’m a horror and, I need Batman to stop me.” Joker’s also tried killing himself several times without success and Batman refuses to kill him. Harley despite saying she wants him dead also always hesitates and let’s him live same with Catwoman. 😢

One thing I always thought about why Batman doesn't kill Joker mostly because he knows that how society could create another Joker even if he kills him. By trying to save Joker and succeeding in it, batman probably can confirm that he can truly change the system for real.

Batman believes killing is an addiction and that once you've had that taste of bloodshed for the first time, you're going to want it again and again. Batman knows that if he kills, then he's not going to be able to STOP killing and he'll be no better than the villians he fights against.

I think “after everything you’ve done, I would’ve saved you.” Embodies Batman perfectly. Most of his rogues are ruthless killers or just mentally I’ll individuals who genuinely need help. However, Batman doesn’t look down own them as lower than human. He knows they’re still human. He saw his parents die at a very young age, and I think that made him think he won’t let ANYONE, good or bad, feel the pain he felt that day. Which is why I think he’d save the joker, the joker has people who love him, forced or not.
