One of Beckers most memorable matches. He was going into that match with the last 8(!) matches losing against Agassi. At this point, it was basically written in stone that Agassi would win against Becker. Becker hated playing against Agassi! Agassi taking the ball so damn early caused Becker all sort of problems.
And this match, after 1 hour, looked exactly like the match nearly all fans expected. Agassi was cruising, having no problems with Becker.
Its still somewhat a miracle how Becker turned this around. After the match i thought Agassi was too sure after 1 and half sets that Becker is done. Another aspect is Becker and Wimbledon. He was a 3-time champ and the Wimbly centre court was the court on tour he liked to play most. Thats where he already had done incredible things.
However, Becker did something incredible in turning this match around. He for sure was in the shape to win another title. Bad luck, he met Prime Sampras in the final who was nearly unbeatable at that time on grass.

well said! I remember watching at the time, Boris being my favourite player and thinking oh boy.. this is not looking good.. a thrashing I'd never seen Becker take before especially at Wimbledon. And then to see the turnaround and victory.. I could scarcely believe what I was seeing. But Agassi, the way he treated Becker's game with complete disdain.. amazing how he did that. Only Agassi really had that complete hex on him.

interesting to watch and compare old and current styles. Agassi was like the front-runner of the likes of Murray, Djokovic, Nadal playing style, while Federer (Wawrinka) mainly played in tradition of Becker/Edberg using one-handed backhand with aggressive tactics and good net play. The swiss couple definitely watched Becker play and i am happy that they adopted this game style at least a little bit so we could see for another 20 years .

Remember watching this match as it unfolded. I thought if Becker was going to beat Agassi (as he had such a poor head to head) this would be the place. They played a great albeit tense match at the US open but unfortunately it went Abassi’s way. I always loved watching Boris play but never cared for Agassiz’s game or his on court behavior and I’m an American! Outside of Sampras there were few American players I liked but then Sampras was a class act that Becker said when him and Pete played it was all about the tennis-no games. Miss those days and those players compared to what we’ve got now.

Yeah, and let me say this:
No one gave us so much Entertainment with Heart, Fight and Emotions as Becker.
In 1985 Becker was a Tennis Revolution.
Of course he hat sometimes mentally Problems, but he never gave up, never.

Happy times.

if he was more lucky with draws, maybe even 5 titles. Lost 4 of his 7 finals and had two more semis in 93 and 94 which puts him at 9 events reached at least SF (and 11 events at least QF). Only few players achieved that feat until today. If Sampras was not that dominant back then, i say hed easily got 4-5 titles there
