Great video! I have a smiliar coach and Jeep tire and bumper combo. And like you I recently came to the same conclusion that my front tires are shooting stones forward and I was thinking about how I could make something like you did. I no longer have to ponder different ideas as it looks like you came up with a cost effective solution. Thank you for sharing and safe travels.

    Hi Mike
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on protecting both the coach and the toad from rock damage while towing. I have been playing with the concepts for a while as I am towing a 2023 Grand Cherokee L and don't want to damage the paint. It's always so rewarding to see your approach to problem solving and the craftsmanship that you use when creating your fixes.
Your videos over the years have been very much appreciated, no matter what the subject.

I have the same problem. I tow jeep with truck camper dually truck. After watching video I built guards identical to yours. First trip no changes to rock chips (front of new flaps peppered with rocks). Now I’m thinking it’s my Rock Tamers and I put “stiff flaps” on instead of the ones that came with it. They are probably only an inch off ground when loaded. Thoughts?

Great video as always!!! Any thoughts of putting the jeep on a car trailer for less wear and tear on it?

I've hauled our Jeep in our 26' enclosed trailer for quite a few years as well during trips where we took the Harley but flat towing is so much more convenient, especially when hopping, skipping and jumping with only a night or two at each location. Unhooked and hooked back up in a matter of minutes. Plus finding campsites that will accommodate a 72+ foot rig was getting less favorable when traveling and I hated disconnecting the trailer once arriving at a campground.
As for wear and tear, it's no different than driving the Jeep so that's a non-issue to be honest. People crack me up when they say how much cheaper hauling the Jeep on a trailer is because you can buy a lot of Jeep tires for the price of a trailer but you still have wear and tear on a trailer. I've done it both ways over the last 30+ years and there's always a trade off.
      I appreciate your watching.

I've found the further back from the tires for the tow rig the further the flaps need to be off the ground. An inch doesn't sound like enough. In our non-tag coach the rear full-width rock guard was about 6 inches off the ground and was about 4' behind the drive tires. It worked perfectly and didn't come in contact with the ground, even when going over road undulations and the coach porpoising slightly. With our tag axle coach the full-width rock guard is set at 4" off the ground and it doesn't contact the road. I would try raising the flaps off the ground to around 4 inches and try that. Your flaps may be making contact and stirring up debris.

Thank you. I think I’ll completely remove tamers for return trip to experiment. After two trips now and front of jeep destroyed as well as windshield I have nothing to lose. Love your video on this

@@zmotorsports62 I did remove tamers and actually ended up in another chip seal for 5 miles. I stopped and checked, no rocks 🤷‍♂️.
