Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old VS Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky Review Is Blue Better?

  • Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old in my opinion defiantly better Johnnie Walker Blue Label both in price and quality. From a blended Scotch prospective the 18 Year Old will run rings around many single malts. Perhaps if Johnnie Walker paid as much as much attention to advertising the 18 Year Old as they due Blue Label, maybe it wouldn't have such a bad name.
Was It Worth It Whisky Reviews is a review for the normal person that just likes a good whisky at a fair price. No technical bullshit. No Affiliations. No Ulterior Motivation.
We all deserve the best whisky and there is plenty to choose from.

This one is totally what your mood is. They're both excellent. 18 is a little deviation from the rest of the lineup as it's more up front with the fresh orchard fruit notes. Love both.

I would agree 100% Don't get me wrong, the Blue is good, but if I had a choice hands down it's the 18 year im going with. Very good review. I feel it was fair

Another cracking review! You must try the Arran Bodega sherry cask, I'd enjoy to hear your take on it and I know you enjoy your sherry bombs!

I also liked 18 more, Blue is exceptionally smooth and easy to drink but 18 is more sweet and have more complex and better taste in general and that is what I look for in good whisky or rum

i have slowly been getting into scotch over the past few years (almost exclusively single malt) and i am now somewhat seasoned. my buddie bought a bottle of the gold label over to my house last weekened and i wasnt too excited, but i was VERY pleasantly surprised. i picked up a bottle of the 18 today and am looking very forward to sampling this weekend.

It’s interesting that you say you got hints of smoke/light wisps because that’s the first thing I smelt and tasted when I tried my bottle but I don’t like the peaty drams so perhaps it stands out a lot more, have to agree though it’s very complex and loads of flavours there

Though I'm a Vodka guy, I I've fallen in love with Blue Label. That initial taste then the crisp and smoothness which follows having it on the rocks - is SUPERB!

Picked up the 18 for $60 (USD) on sale recently and was happy to do so. Not sure I would be willing to pay $100 though, as I can get great single malt 18 year olds for around that cost.

The 18 year IMO was way more smoother and more complex I’m not sure how is that possible vs 25 year. I love the green label also

18 is my favorite to love the stuff obviously there is plenty of better whiskies and single Malts out there but 18 always has a special place in my heart really tasty stuff!

Curious how does JW18 stands up to JW21XR as the price gap between the 2 is not that great. Not sure ifcJW21XR is commonly available in U.K. I do like the 18 and Green Label, both are great value for money. Do review the JW Swing as well.

    • @WASITWORTHITWHISKY

The JW21XR is more than the price of Blue Label her in the UK so here the price gap is more than double... The Swing looks interesting might have to check it out... Cheers

18 yr is my favorite. Black Label for something smokier. Blue Label is ok but there’s stiff competition from other brands at that price point.

As a whiskey enthusiast I'd recommend skipping Johnny entirely. It's severely overhyped and overpriced for what it is. There are definitely much better and way interesting alternatives for half the price or less (my personal favorite Teerenpeli for example). Unless you're a fan or something, I see no reason in trying to find out which Walker is the best. I personally enjoy more WT101 over Blue Label. Even Octomore is cheaper or same, but miles better.

Its a big call to dismiss JW all together, but I do not blame people that do, usually after trying Red or Black or even worse spilling out mega bucks for Blue. But what I can say is that this 18 Year old is on par with some of the same single malts in the same price bracket, especially as I brought it for 50 Pounds on Amazon... Bargain.

@@WASITWORTHITWHISKY " this 18 Year old is on par with some of the same single malts"
Can you give some examples plz? Coz I enjoyed Glenlivet and Glenfiddich 18 more for 55eur each, than JW 18 Platinum for 85 eur. Unless you find it on a decent sale, it's not worth the original price.
In general I think if a person had some extraordinary whiskeys before, any JW will feel just like disappointment. Especially if you're already hooked on cask strength)))

@@smashexentertainment676 I would say I enjoy it a lot more than Glenfiddich 18 Year Old and would defiantly buy it over GF18.... But we all have different taste's. In fact in my review of GF18 it got a Thumbs down..... on value for money. My favorite GF would be the 15 year old Solara as a point of reference. BTW what I reviewed is not the JW 18 Platinum it is the standard JW 18 Year Old.
