Just got my bike tricked out at Ed's Bicycles shop in Cedar Lake, IN. Had to pull some old school BMX tricks out front and thank Ed for a great job on my bike.
@DeMarkus The 3rd Thanks man. It's a 1987 Redline RL20ii. My parents bought her for me from a local bike store back in '87. I've had her ever since then. The pedals in this video are Hutch pedals I had on her from bitd. I've since given them to a friend in the BMX community and have basic red ones I got online from Porkchop BMX. The cranks are GT Power Series cranks that I got back in 6th or 7th grade. When I was younger I got sick of the decals that eventually were starting to peel, so one day I peeled them all off to have a clean all chrome look. The same friend that I gave the Hutch pedals too sent me full decals to replace back on this bike. Thanks for watching man!
@DeMarkus The 3rd You can see the bike now with decals back on her in my "BMX Triple Spiderman" video right around 0:33. ruclips.net/video/IINfmDPR2ac/видео.html
nice to see flatland bmx is still vintage yet new school all out the same time not many sports can be done both ways at the same time. keep up the great videos
Stationary tricks came first like the cherry picker then rolling tricks firehydrant to decade. Thanks BMX PLUS for all the Intel photos of sequence of tricks! That's how country folk learned this stuff
That was sik. You made it look easy. I still love the old school bikes and tricks. Still have my 87 GT Pro Freestyle Tour,& it's still my favorite bike.
Shit is nasty.... I really do love how every individual have a true or hidden talent. Every individual is special in a way.... I watch another video of what had to be a 50+ year old man doing this. It blows my mind and make me smile.
It sure was back in the day and still is for some! I miss those days where local bike stores stocked tons of gyros, pegs, framestanders, VHS freestyle videos, BMX plus magazines, and cool freestyle stickers. I’ll always ride my Redline to keep that spirit alive - and to keep me sore and bruised lol 😂
No way! I would never be able to pull half of those tricks at my age. Maybe the simpler rolling, and static tricks but definitely not Decade, Surfer. Also this is way more variety to watch than the modern spinning around flatland stuff nowadays. Not seen anything like this since the days when Dennis McCoy, RL Osborne, Rick Montero, and Kevin Jones. I'm sure there are plenty I seasoned and Pro riders have missed out.
Thanks Mills. Power to the modern spinning around stuff but long live old school too! Those days you speak of were rad, and they still live on in old school riders. Martin Aparijo and Eddie Fiola still ride almost every Tuesday at Huntington Beach California- they call it “HB Tuesday.” All are welcome to join to watch, ride, or just mingle and have fun. Rick Allison still rides. Ron Wilkerson, Dave Voelker, Woody Itson, and Pat Romano .. there’s some more names from the that era too. 😃
@@trainertroysmithyou’re killing it? How old are you? I’m 49 and just put a Haro sport lineage together to ride with my gf’s kids, and to get back into riding (as a family). Love the inspiration.
@@TheJetskidoctor hey thanks - I’ll be 47 this weekend. That’s awesome about the Haro Sport and riding as a family. I actually got a bike for my gf to ride around with me when I do tricks. Good luck and have fun man!
Thanks Roftnite 999 and congratulations with your “new” Diamondback that’s so awesome. Have fun man! When I got back into freestyling with my bike, I had so much fun. It was like (still is like) being a kid again. I’ve been able to get back my old tricks and even learn some new ones that I never was able to do as a kid. What a rush that is each time. And it’s also a great way to get exercises too. Stay rad and thanks for watching!
@@trainertroysmith It's been a while and I never told you that i got into an accident shortly and fell face first into the ground because I swerved going too fast. Have a great day and stay rad!
That was a good variety of oldschool tricks!! That last decade looked sweet!! I've always had trouble with the infamous decade and the cherry picker!! Well done!!
Wow man, that's amazing!! Just built a Hutch pro raider to bring me back to my childhood. And start learning all over again. Question for you, what pads are you using? Having difficulty finding something that really grips the front wheel on machined aluminum rims. Clear pads (Odyssey, Kool Stop) don't work as well as I though.
Thanks Pete! Have fun with that Hutch! I believe the pads I have on are Odyssey Slim-by-4. They’re clear pads. They really grip well (and squeak too lol). They were a game changer for me. When I was younger I used to always clean my rims amd pads with Simple Green. I still do that on occasion, but the need to do so with these pads is much less. Another thing that can help (after cleaning with Simple Green or an equivalent) is to spray some hair spray on the rims while spinning the tires. Let it dry a few seconds and then lightly wipe it off. But ever since I got these clear pads, I only clean my rims and pads at times versus needing to clean and hair spray before riding. Get those brakes dialed strong and have fun man!
I really want an old school BMX. I am getting to the age where I want to remember my early childhood. They don't come cheap though. Nice video. I can't do all that :)
Thank you Laura. Yes, get an old school BMX - you only live once! I know... they are not cheap that’s for sure. I’m so glad that I kept this Redline that I’ve had ever since 1987. Cheers!
@@trainertroysmith oh for sure i have a bmx anytime i'm on it i feel free and like when i was a kid! you need to teach me these tricks though, i can just about ride the thing lol
Nice work! That Rl20ii is NOT a small frame and for you to get that Decade on it under pressure while someone is filming after many tries is saying something.
I know! It makes it harder to do rolling tricks - say like a firehydrant. Some riders suggested that I change out to axle pegs in instead of the higher up fork pegs for that reason. At first it messed me up since I was used to having them higher. But it didn’t take long for me to get used to them down by the axle, and it made tricks easier. The old Redline fork peg in this video (think I had one of them off so I could do Miami Hoppers) was even bigger and set into the forks even lower than the other higher and skinnier fork pegs Redline made. I can’t imagine doing stuff on those! Thanks for watching dude! 🤙🏽
Thanks! Yes, it’s a 1987 Redline RL20ii that I’ve had since I got it in 6th grade. The cranks are GT Power Series cranks. I love her and am so glad that I kept her all these years!
crosbie croz Yes. The bike came with one piece cranks when I got it in ‘87. Maybe a couple years later I got these GT power series cranks. The store was out of redline flights and I liked how the power series cranks looked... so I went with them. I scratched the decals off years later when I scratched the original Redline decals off that had started to peel.
