    That car is nothing less than STUNNING! A dateless timeless body style of Epic Proportions! Glad I have a Coupe. Mine is NOT an "R". I have the XK-8. Your car is "Bitchin" dude! Stay well! NO STRIPES! Don't ruin it. DONT DO A THING!

    THIS is my favourite Jaguar. Everybody likes a convertible but the coupe shape gets lost when the roof is gone. This one ticks all the boxes. And supercharger to top it off. Bill is correct, supercharger power is very satisfying compared to turbo. Even and old LeSabre 3.8 with supercharger is a fun motor.

    • @stoneylonesome4062
      @stoneylonesome4062 Год назад

      I think they should’ve gotten rid of the back seats, so that they could give it a mechanically folding hardtop. You get a convertible, with the beautiful roofline, and it’s an actual roadster, like the original XK-E-Type.

    Great review .
    I have a 2001 XKR and understand the urge to use the surge of power and hear the supercharger whine all too well..... ( Though not in the wet.) The best range is flooring it from about 20 mph on where the power just keeps coming .....
    As I understand it, the main differences between the XK8 and XKR (apart from the Supercharger, bonnet /hood grills, badges etc). were that the R had a Mercedes gearbox (due to extra XKR power), and that the computer controlled suspension was standard on the R and an option on the XK8.
    I think the 'S' button shortens the gearbox changes rather than the suspension, but who cares when the S button is so much fun whatever it does.
    I don't understand why these cars are still so affordable and why so many are being scrapped. There were only 9,661 X100 Coupes worldwide between 1997 and 2005 which must make them pretty rare. They do rust if not looked after and service history is essential.
    This car at 19K miles looks and sounds great and it comes across from the video that you really enjoyed the car.

      Mine's a '98 and still makes me smile. And you're right about the S button or Sports mode. It holds the revs more.

    Nice review and gorgeous looking car. If you read John's ("To The Garage") 10,000m review on youtube he shows us that the dash design is a homage to the wing shape of the Sptifire as the Castle Bromwich factory in the UK is where the Sptifire was made. Suddenly the fascia shape makes sense. I also love the look of the last XK8 models that ended around 2014 but that doesn't have the same fascia. Still dreaming of driving or owning a nice coupé or convertible before I die or the whole network out there serves electric or hydrogen only!

    If I'm gonna deal with British quirky reliability (had a Land Rover as a daily driver for years so... Yea I get it), I'd take that '89 XJS call day long. If you're gonna get nuts, get totally nuts. 80s Jaguar. Sign me up. Once I'm ready for a bi-weekly headache again, I think that's the direction I'm going. I actually watch that review pretty frequently!

    4.0 is a "big" engine? The "S" button on the console isn't anything about the suspension, it's the sport mode for the transmission, changes the shift points and snaps the gears quicker. I have an '04 convertible with the 4.2, nearly identical with a bit more displacement, really sweet car with only a few quirks, not parting with it any time soon!

    What a lovely first generation X100. Interesting that this car has the Pre facelift front bumper but the MY2000 navigation system!
    Have not seen the navigation with the old front bumper style and fog lights before.
    I have the same car in British Racing Green!
    There was a R Performance option from the factory to get larger Brembo brakes. This became standard after 2003 on XKR.

    Wheels are called “ double 5 “. The red badge on an XKR , if not replaced on purpose signifies the “ Silverstone” limited edition.

    • @billdykes3921
      @billdykes3921 4 года назад

      Hello Nicholas. Wheels are "double 5" but the red badge with "supercharger" written on it simply signifies that its an XKR. The Silverstone edition (but the car shown is regular XKR not a Silverstone) had a number of refinements you can read about here: www.motorweek.org/reviews/road_tests/2001_jaguar_xkr_silverstone_program_2023 ). Enjoy your XK8 :-)

    Beautiful car, but I would rather have the 3 gauges in the centre of the dash instead of a now useless Garmin. Also, be wary of those awful Nikasil cylinder liners and plastic cam tensioners. By oct 1999 cylinder should be steel, but these are known weak points.
