  • Following a near fatal incident when mixing slurry, Co. Antrim farmer Alex Walker, spent a night in hospital followed by weeks of severe headaches and fatigue. As Alex now realises, this accident could have been prevented.

    mervyn hamilton i was gassed in 2002 in co antrim and it has been a living hell since severe head pains mussle fatigue wanting to take you own life in a wheel chair at bad times it a hidden illness that no body see i suffer every day and night WHEN WILL THE FARMERS LISTEN

    Ghastly (or gassy) farm accidents can happen to anybody at any time. Be careful out there or else you could end up buying the farm!

    I had a push lawn mover hadnt been crank in years . i got cranked inside the car port fumes came out of the mover hit me i couldnt breath i ran to the outside could breath final after to point of passing out . doing what done can kill you .

    With the greatest of respect to you sir
    Surely you must of been aware of the dangers involved?? Knowing that the gasses are highly dangerous, so why didn't you take the appropriate steps to insure you would be safe to proceed with your work.

      Manure produces methane gas which is deadly to people and animals. The manure is stored below the barn and is mixed so it can be pumped out into the field. Here the manure was agitated and it was a calm day so the gases built up and almost killed him. The gases are odorless and people typically pass out within seconds of knowing there is an issue.
