Today Tom has got a (pool) table laden with piles of period silverware and flatware. From cigar clippers to lobster forks, cake knives to grape snips, it's all here in one form or another.
This is admittedly a very, very niche topic, but it one he is very interested in, as evidenced by the runtime.
While you will probably not share a similar level of enthusiasm, hopefully you will come away with a full plate of knowledge.

Yes, another Wittman video! Since the last lecture I've watched all of the lectures again, this is the third time I've gone through them. I even watched some of the show videos for the second time. I don't even own any militaria, but I've fallen in love with it through Wittman's videos, maybe some day I'll be able to amass a decent collection but for now I have a wife and kid to feed so... This topic isn't at first glance too interesting for me, but we'll see, maybe after I've watched it I'll have a new found appreciation for it, just as the whole hobby before. Thank you herr Wittman and Rob for all of these wonderful videos, it enables some of us to really enjoy the hobby even if we don't own any militaria ourselves. Well, now that I've said that, I do have some of my grandfather's medals from the Winter and Continuation Wars and some things from my personal year of service in the military. Now I'll enjoy the video!
Well, you certainly managed to make this much more interesting than I thought it would be. Not something I would collect, but certainly very interesting with everything that's related to these items.

Mr. Wittmann should polish all this silver and store it in airtight zip-lock bags which will prevent further tarnish. Every time you polish, you remove a tiny bit of silver and it adds up over time. I collect railroad silver and have a fairly big collection but none of it is on display or exposed to air. These things are real pieces of history, very rare and expensive. They should be stored where they won't deteriorate any further.

The rule of use for utensils is to work from the outside in.
A follow up video could be done on silver items such as cigarette cases, cigar boxes, silver items given for retirements, birthdays, Christmas, etc. I recently picked up a few of these items, one of which was given to Luftwaffe Major Moricke who was a military attaché to Czechoslovakia before the German takeover.

I will carry the ball , or plate another 3 yards! In the future, collectors will simply collect all tableware of that era. Much in the same way, people collect leftovers (no pun intended) of all tragic, failed , epic nation states in history. In other words, it's more hunted than what you thunk. Cheers!

Clean it once,,,,,,,then place each piece in a curatorial silver bag. Store in clean dry place......low moisture area and also use 4 mil zip bag for extra protection.
You should definitely start a German world war II uniform collection with visor caps
I have a three pronged fork with a flower that has three petals one large and other two small, the design is on top just before the prongs, also one of the prongs is larger than the other two but has no 45 degree cut, near the bottom is a German eagle with the swastika at the bottom there is a design with one large wing like design and 3 small ones on each side,then a fleur de lis like pattern with the largest part in the middle and 4 small parts on each side, also the bottom of the spoon is rounded then curved to a point the two designs i mentioned after the eagle and swastika, are upside down. Not sure which which fork it is and who would of used it, it's a bit of a mystery.

This is one of the most beautiful silber collection I have ever seen. I would love to own a collection like this, so that I may invite my Jewish ✡ neighbors over for dinner or brunch 🤔!
I have 2 sets of older Roger Bros. Silverware. Are they valuable?
Most of that 3R silverware is fabricated from period silver pieces, to which initials or other engravings were added. All plated stuff is very suspicious, because only solid silver was used by the upper class at that time. So be extremely careful with all these offerings!
Nobody would ever have someone engrave common period silver ware with AH monograms.
One of the only times you should clean a piece of history is if you find it in the ground and needs to be washed to get the dirt off of it.
There has to be 12,000,000 pieces of AH or EB silver for sale. Tom please, how do you tell the original from the fakes?
I know when you polish it removes silver but they look so much better, I noticed Tom doesn’t polish his pieces. I only have a desert spoon formal pattern but I give mine the odd polish 🤔😱🙅🔫

I polish my AH flatware with a Brillo pad and Ajax.

I've been wanting to get into collecting tableware, I get discouraged about it because items like the informal 'AH' silverware sells so quickly and they are very hard to find. Someone else always beats to whatever it is I want, it's par for the course, so you think I'd be used it, but it's very discouraging. I don't want to have to collect the things nobody wants just so I can have something to collect. Mr. Wittman, I'd appreciate some advice.
