    These are a game changer. I've found it most effective to proactively use the big hydrocolloid sheets cut up and put over the t zone once a week to clear out the pores instead of waiting for something to pop up. I use a BHA toner prior. Seems like 24 hours gives the best results rather than just overnight. Seems like it takes several hours for it to build up the internal moisture/pressure/suction from within the pore to the hydrocolloid material to start pulling stuff out. So it seems like if you only do it overnight it's only just started to really get to work when you take it off. With 24 hours max per bandage, with one additional day if severe purging needed. But after two days some irritation/minor rash formation does start to happen. Just some observations/tips I've noticed.

    I love the idea of the acne treatment patches with salicylic acid, but I cannot find a single one that doesn't also have tea tree oil, which I'm allergic to. So I apply Paula's Choice salicylic acid toner, wait a few mins for it to dry a bit, and then use a hydrocolloid sticker. Or if it's really bad I'll use my 10% Benzoyl Peroxide spot treatment underneath (just a teeny dab with a q-tip, and then use the other (dry) side of the q-tip to pat it in). Putting a product under the hydrocolloid makes it slip around a bit more at first, but after 30 mins or so of pushing it back into place it's good to stay on all night. That's what I've discovered works the best for me.

    Question: since salicylic acid so readily penetrates the stratum corneum, is there any benefit to using a microneedle patch with SA over just an acne patch?

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience
      @LabMuffinBeautyScience  4 года назад +40

      It penetrates relatively well, but it still tends to be a bit slow - so it's possible that the microneedle patch helps it penetrate quicker so that the peak concentration in the pimple is higher (it can get in quicker so it doesn't have a chance to diffuse away as fast), if that makes sense! Anecdotally I've found them more effective than salicylic acid alone or under a hydrocolloid patch, but I'm sure there's a lot of variation between different microneedle patches, salicylic acid formulas and pimple depth (and of course it's just anecdotal, so *shrug*).

    I buy the big sheets of hydrocolloid bandages at the drugstore and cut them up into little squares. I usually lance the pimple first because just putting it on didn't really do much if it already came to a head. I used to use a tea tree sheet mask before putting a patch on and that would really reduce the swelling and redness of the pimple the morning after.

    Hydrocolloid is my best friend since I have dermatillomania. I’ve found that it’s actually more helpful for wound healing and scarring than the average pimple unless it’s a pimple that I’m gonna pick at in which case it’s really helpful for keeping my hands off it. It still helps certain pimples a good amount, I just find the way that it reduces scar appearance and texture more impressive

    I use the Alba Botanica Acne Pimple Patches because they're easy to find at Target. It seems like it's somewhat of a hybrid between the hydrocolloid and acne patches, because it's a hydrocolloid dressing but also has tea tree oil in it.

      Like she mentioned in the video with the hydrocolloid patches, they don't seem to do much on deep or intact pimples, but they are ace at sucking out the inflammation of one that's been popped. Many times I've pimples where I didn't quite get all the pus out, and the patch drew it to the top overnight rather than getting irritated and becoming an even worse zit.

  • @Siberius-
    @Siberius- Год назад +1

    Oh so after popping a pimple (ideally in the way you mentioned in the other video), it can come back, so a hydrocolloid patch would prevent that by just soaking it up, it seems.
    I was using leave-on benzoyl peroxide after I popped them, which does definitely seem to better keep them away, and prevent potential spread, but it's very drying, which isn't good for the healing process. I was using Oxy-10, which is too drying when reapplying it for a while. Switching to Oxy-5 with the brown pigment in it (benzoyl peroxide-white is not easy to blend in, even for my quite pale skin).
    I'm going to follow your method here. Save the leave-on benzoyl peroxide for the earlier stages.
    Seems like more of a night time thing for me myself. During the day I think I'll just cover it up with a little band-aid and pretend I have a tiny face injury of a different sort lol (square ones so it's more self-awaredly obvious. OR, band-aid on top of the patch, now that's some impressive thinking). Or break out the green colour corrector, concealer, and translucent powder. I noticed that patches can look like weird skin... so I'd rather wear something that stands out more, like if they had a hydrocolloid patch that is like a silly little snail sticker. I know regular pimple patches come in star-form, but eh.

    I didn't have luck with regular pimple patches (The hydrocolloid ) ones....... Until I came across a hack, which you put a thin layer of spot gel, wait for it to dry then put the patch over it and sleep. 👍🏽 it got rid of the pesky blind pimple I've had on my nose and cheek.

    I took the miracle of acne patch really lightly, but i decided to buy COSRx one on whim and was surprised of how my red and painful cystic acne that i haven't suffered in years calmed down in a day. The redness and the pain was gone, and thats all i need to fall in love quickly. I sill do my spot treatment and use the patch and the bump was less visible after 3 days of using it, i don't really care about the speed of a the treatment, as long as it works thats all that matters.
    The patch sure was thick but there is a certain aesthetic to use (to me)

  • @msbroomstick1

    If you came to see this video and you have darmatillomania or just tent to pick your skin this is the video for you. I'll be adding my two cents for people with dermatillomania:
    1. The first and most importantly thing is for the patch to not make the situation worse (that's why I personally can't just use a normal cheap bandage) and to have it not annoy the fuck out of you so you keep it on and won't rip it off.
    2. You don't ever consciously lance a pimple ever. Just like how a glass of wine once a week is recommended for healthy people but not for alcoholics. You're an alcoholic. You can have someone else lance it for you, preferably a professional and always someone who won't enable you.
    3. A lot of people with dermatilomania enjoy an "uncomfortable" sensation that distracts them from the pain of the pimple (which for us can be litteraly more annoying than scraping our skin off with a blunt instrument - don't do that though). That's why if the patch slightly burns or prick you you might enjoy it more, not less. For me gently pressing the microneedle patch for 10-5 seconds provides just enough comfort to prevent me from "digging". Obviously don't use anything that irritates you or your skin too much. A chemical burn is almost as bad as a scab (no your not allowed to pick burns as well) and if you rip off the patch it's just a waste anyway.
    3. Any time you watch a video like thi be aware of your triggers and act accordingly. If the sticky sensations is too much for you, don't use patches. If seeing the pimple up close is triggering have someone else put the patch for you. Be smart avoid obstacles and learn from mistakes
    4. Go to a dermatologist, tell him what's going on, explain to him you understand it's bad it's just that this type of behaviours is inheritely irrational and knowing that is why your fighting it. Like how people that are afraid of thunder know thunder is irrational but fear it nonetheless.
    Get treated, you'd be surprised how much easier it gets if tretinoine (or whatever best for you skin) gets rid of most of the inflamed skin. Over the counter stuff can help but (accept for perhaps differin if you are in the US) you probably should be using some more effective stuff even if your acne is mild. Also a dermatologist can make sure you're not making things worse or using products that should be used together.

    Is it true pimple patches don't work on cystic pimples? I was lucky enough to experience the pleasure of getting 2 extremely nasty cysts on the tip of my nose!!! 👃🏻😐 I wouldn't even be sure how I could get a patch to contour & stick to the tip of my nose. It's AWFUL. There is TONS of redness around the larger one. Ugh. It's so embarrassing. The tip of my nose is BRIGHT RED. I just put tretinoin on my face bc it's tretinoin night for me, but I'm wondering if I should attempt a patch in the AM. I have stars, so a star just might be able to contour & stick.

    Is there any patch that works on cystic acne? Like the one that’s so deep in the skin that takes a week or more just to resurface... thank you!

      Lab Muffin Beauty Science I get my cysts injected by my Derm that’s the only way I found working so far (besides doxycycline)... still hoping that science will come up with a cure sometime 😂

    That was so informative! And has me wondering - is there any kind of patch that would help a 20 year old red bump left from picking a pimple on my nose as a teen?

      I think with older bumps and scars, the best thing to do is to see a dermatologist or dermal therapist who can use instruments and treatments that go deeper into the skin - the damage is usually in the lower dermis. I have some scars that I should go get fixed too!

    I was wondering if these patches would work for very hard milia that don't respond to any other type of treatments, like needle puncture, Clearasil cream, etc?

    This video is very interesting. I use retin-a micro. Do you think the microneedling patch can be used on top a thin retin a layer?

    Is the hydrocolloid band really that effective to get rid of all the fluid from the pimple? Don't we have to drain it ourselves? (Acc to your pimple squeeze video)

    Anyone got tips for protecting your skin from the sun when using these? They are transparent. I'm not sure sunscreen would stick over the tops of these.

    the cost to results ratio on microneedle patches was simply not worth it to me. I honestly didn’t find it that much more effective than just applying a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, personally.

    I get cystic acne and just started using Hydrocolloid bandages. I didn’t buy them for ages because I thought they wouldn’t work. But I’ve been applying a warm compress before I apply them and it seems to be working. Do you have any tips on what to do once you remove the bandage? I took one off yday and it had a hole in it where the pus came out from lmao.
