Hey Gerard, thanks for sharing this information. My exam will be next week, very nervous but I have been doing something similar you did, so hopefully I can pass. Thanks again Thiago
@@gerardobrien Thanks for the vid. The subject areas (especially how surface they cover them) seem rather easy for people like us. The difficulty seems to be navigating the multiple correct answers.
For me it was the 50 test questions too... So many questions that just didn't make any sense... And yea those questions where all the answers are correct.. you need to have a CISSP mindset to know the correct one to choose! That exam aged me a few years 😬
I've done a lot of networking and security, which was pretty important background info. If you've been heavily involved with the infra your apps run on, you should have a good basis. If not there may be some areas you need to get deeper in.
I guess the biggest question I have is... is it worth it? I'm currently a senior product owner for a company that designs encrypted communications overlay networks and I want to move into management with the eventual goal of becoming a CISO. I don't actually have an engineering background, but rather a manufacturing one, however I've been at my job five years and I would like to get some engineering certs to underpin my core value within an engineering organization. Has the CISSP opened any new doors for you or lead to increase in pay? Do people take it seriously?
Hey Will, I'm not gonna lie or butter it up.. but if you asked me if it was worth it while I was studying I would have said hell no :). But after passing, the honest answer is Yes to all your questions. It opened massive doors for me, new job, pay rise etc. But be aware, certs alone do not get jobs.. they help getting that initial conversation with employers. Big companies are getting 100's of CV's for roles and CISSP definitely stands out. If I was you I'd go on LinkedIn and search for CISO roles that interest you, note down the experience/qualifications required for the those roles.. that will give you something to work towards. CISSP can only help on the journey. BUT before you start, make sure you understand the required work experience to obtain CISSP. All the best!
As far as taking it seriously, it's the gold standard of sec leadership certs. I would take some security ops and GRC certs as well to help round out your knowledge.
Thank you sir for the video. Is it true that you need 5 years of experience to pass the exam? Without experience is it so difficult? Can you have a better job with this certification?
Hey there!! You can do the exam with less than 5 years experience... if you pass you'll get an Associate of CISSP certification... then you can work up the experience and apply for CISSP certification. You can apply for CISSP with 4 years experience, as long as you pass another Security exam.. they have a list on their website. Remember CISSP alone wont get you jobs....it will 100% open doors for you though. Hope that helps :)
If I remember right, I think I got to 83%. I completed all the practice exams, and then filtered by areas I got wrong/low marks. Then read through the book in those areas. You taking your exam soon?
@@gerardobrien yessir! Taking mine on the 24th. I already ran through Thor Pedersen’s full course and read the ISC2 guide, now i’m just powering through the practice questions
Amazing thats the hardest part... just constant question smashing and trying to stay awake! :) The Discord group really helped me in those weeks before the exam so check it out! Best of luck!!!
Hey mate, good question! Even though ISC does not share numbers, I spent some time researching and the common pass rate across a number of websites/forums/discord was between 20-40%. Some websites that offer paid training packages will say 70%-90% pass rate.. but i doubt thats true.
@@gerardobrien I did a poll on Reddit and it was a 69.4% "Pass first time" poll. Not sure if the audience on discord is vastly different from Reddit. I can't imagine it being 20%.
Have a Google and check around, it seems it's changed a bit... Someone commented here that they done a poll and the results were around 60%. The new exam format is in place now so maybe it's changed a bit. Good luck!! 👍
I passed my CISSP a year ago and, at that time It was 20% that passed in the first try, I was the only one in that exam that passed in the first try in the exam (you know if the exam doesn’t have ended before the 100 th questions that you are some what okey), it a bit extreme we will have to have two valid in one with picture, and the you will have to get a vain’s in you hand scanning at the start and in the end of the exam (here in Danmark anyway)
Congratulations Gerard! 🏆🎉🌟Glad the CISSP Exam Cram was helpful!

Hey Thiago! Good luck in your exam!! You will smash it! :)
Did you pass it?
Hopefully he did and hes still in the pub :)
Thank you so much for sharing your CISSP journey
Your welcome! Good luck if your planning to take the exam 👍
Good information
The Memory Palace is of Prashant Mohan. He teaches CISSP at Infosectrain.
Hey thanks for this, I've added his name and website to the description so he gets credit. :)
I am studying for this exam. Thanks for your sharing.
Congratulations! Can you do this video without the background noise/music.
Where are you getting the 20% statistic
My CISSP ninth edition just arrived. With the new changes, I wonder if this book is relevant.
No it is not, you can happily go with 9th edition
The CISSP usually requires 5 years of work experience
You can satisfy one year if you have other relevant certifications 👍
Just remember you still need to earn 120 CPE’s to keep your certification
How do they verify your experience?
Could you manage any job after you pass the test and got the certificate?
Did you have any experience before? I've been developing software professionally for the last 30 years.
Yea I've been working on IT for around 18 years, that helped for certain topics 👍

My philosophy is - do something with your life: go CISSP!
Does my bachelors degree, Security+ and AWS certified security Specialist amount to 3/5 years of experience requirement?
I think that's 2/5, it is 1 year for degree and 1 year for listed certifications

In April 2023 or 2024?
hey there, sorry can you clarify what the question is? :)
i think he mean when did you pass the exam @@gerardobrien
