I have been on the keto diet for years. I eat meat, fish, vegetables, and no processed food, zero. It's not that difficult if you are motivated to improve your health. Eating vegetables eliminates the side effects like constipation.

Best to go Carnivore - get the best FATTY meat you can afford. Avoid ALL plant (not) foods.
Nuts, seeds, salads etc. (all said to be acceptable on "keto" diet) - pure poison.

I have been doing intermittent fasting for over 13 months and have been seizure free. I found out that it worked for me when I had to lose weight about three years ago. At that time my blood pressure was not being controlled by medication and I did not want anymore medication in my body. I was already taking a lot of medication for my seizures.
I did the intermittent fasting and began losing weight. I also noticed that I was feeling better and not having seizures. I remember telling my wife that I wished I had a lot more fat because I did not want to stop the intermittent fasting.
I stopped the intermittent fasting after 6 months and the seizures returned. I stopped the intermittent fasting because I thought I was going to keep on losing weight and that it would be bad for my overall health.
I started the intermittent fasting again about 13 months ago. It has been working. This time, I will stick to it because I have found out that I will not keep losing weight. I will reach a good healthy weight and stay at that weight. I want to add that my diet is a little healthier. I have also been taking cold showers all this time.
Before the intermittent fasting, I was having on average one or two seizures a month.
I tried the keto diet and i found it hard to stick to it. It took me away from the foods I am used to eating. Because I could not stick to the keto diet that well, I had seizures. That is the reason I went off it.
I am just sharing what has worked for me. Consult your neurologist before trying this because I have not heard of other persons talk about having success on this diet.

I'm in my late 60's. I fast and use Keto diet. My seizures are much reduced. I have little to no excess fat on my body. I am very muscular and athletic build. Carbs cause us many problems and turn to sugar which can cause other illnesses. What you describe is a good way to live. You have found what works for you and many of us out here. Our doktors don't believe it can help, but it does, and those doktor's patients are not needing the drugs anymore. They want us sick.

Dr. Anthony Chaffe, Shawn Baker are good recourses. You body needs sat fat. Good salt, not table salt. Do not give your child endocrine disrupters. You are their advocate at this time in their life. Be informed. Your doctor is not a god. Drugs are not the only answer. Can they be combined with natural resolutions? Functional Dr? Is the cause emotional? Do not put your child on drugs without research.

Back on Keto for me is what I call “a vacation “ from seizures. Dr. Danoun is right, it’s a hard diet to stay on, but the results give the mind a rest. Self discipline doesn’t always help as “carb low keto “ foods contain some limited carbs that can throw you off ketosis.
Thank you Dr. Danoun. Great talk.

Thanks for bringing this up. I think one of the reaons now that makes difficult be on the Ketogenic diet for epilepsy is that it was such a hype for weighloss. It was not supervised and not strict without ‘cheat days’ or ‘carb days’ Now the hype is a bit over it’s very difficult to get support for the diet for orher reasons than weightloss, like epilepsy amd migraine

Okay, I had a MAJOR stroke the day after Christmas 2016. I finally awoke from a drug induced coma sometime in January 2017. I was discharged February 23rd and sent home to pursue therapy. I'd begun therapy while still in hospital.. Other than the apparent seizure that accompanied my stroke (aneurysm in pons) I hadn't had another seizure event in the hospital. However just as I had been days short of the 6 month period required to undergo a driving therapy, so that I could drive again, which later, I discovered wasn't necessary for me, because I had no physical deficits) I had my first seizure and literally passed out again. Wound up in the same hospital I was discharged from. They put me on a mild dose of Keppra. Then about another 6 months, I had another. This time, I was awake and it was extremely scary. It was Christmas again, just days short. I totally thought I was dying, so as I thought I was taking my final breaths, I told my wife I loved her and told her where I'd hidden her Christmas presents. This time, I told my Neurologist that I wanted the maximum safe dose for me, because I never wanted to go through that again. I managed to get it increased to 3000 mg, 1500 twice daily. My entire situation is both funny and unfortunate. But anyway, we moved out of state after I turned in my retirement papers. Once here, my new PCP asked if I wanted to get off Keppra (Levetiracetam), and I said no, because I had no intention to stop driving or participating in life. I have tinkered with fasting and likely have consumed components of keto diet. But I started to notice that on the days or nights where I'd forgotten to take either my morning or evening dose, I had no physical issues. So I started quietly (sssh, don't tell my wife) reducing my dosage. First, I went from 3000 to 2500, now I'm at 2000. Next, I'll go to 1000. But I'm going to fully investigate the keto diet. I first give thanks to God for keeping me around for awhile longer and to likely one of the country's best neurosurgeons, Dr. Robbi Franklin in Nashville. He, along with a team of other specialists, saved my life. The only remaining thing wrong with me now is that I'm out of shape, because for the last 6 years prior to my stroke and necessary retirement was that I was a tractor trailer driver for the world's largest package delivery company and just let that lifestyle take over. But so far, when not working (which for me was a wonderful distraction to not boredom eat) I've only managed 26 hours as a best amount of time between eating. I watch a lot of Dr. Sten Ekberg's videos, although he's not a MD, he seems well studied and practices what he preaches. I look forward to totally getting away from Keppra. I don't think I've had any of the associated side effects or haven't noticed them, but having to take that for going on 6 years is not a fun way to live.

Healthy KETO is easy, if you know what to do. I have found a lot of help from Dr Eric Berg's YT channel. I don't eat a lot of meat but I have learned what foods have healthy fat (avocado, healthy oils, nuts) and how to use a few grains (quinoa, sorghum, amaranth) sparingly, that balance my diet. Leafy greens, and veggies allowed on the diet. I am so thankful to be on the KETO diet and the help it gives.

Fasted state of the body may be preferrential state actually. If you think about it, for most of the evolution human kind did not eat regularly and especially not sugary or high carbohydrate foods. It was more like you hunt, one day you have some food you eat your fill, and then you might 2 days go straight without food, until you find something again. And even if you found something in between it was not sugary-it was low carb so it didnt kick you off the ketosis mostly. So our predecessors were mostly on ketosis and our body loves it. It doesnt like burn carbs for energy, its secondary source of energy not primary. And so when agricultural revolution came, our diet went wrong. We're constantly chewing something and eating high carb foods, this kicks us out of ketosis. Nowadays most people are not on ketosis at all. This is not preferrential state for the body. Your heart, your brain, these organs will always prefer burning fat vs glucose for fuel. That may be one of the many resons why people are so sick today. Japanesse scientist found out about autophagy, where your body gets rid of toxic stuff when it burns fat. Nowadays if you dont burn fat, because you constantly spike your insuline you have no way of getting toxic stuff out of you and it accumulates.
We're lucky not being born in the past for our sickness would be cured probably using harsh exorcist practices. In bible it is mentioned that Jesus cured a boy with epilepsy, by banishing evil spirit from him. And he said only prayer and fasting would help him with his sickness. Hippocrates knew this too he noticed fasting reduced seizures in epileptics. When your body uses fat as fuel it is less volatile, it is more stable source of energy and it seems that is causes less stress on your cells. With glucose your body is more unstable, more impulsive and stressed. I havent tried keto diet yet, but iam seriously thinking about trying it. I hate all the side effects of the medications. Yes you give up the sugary tasty stuff, but hey you were born sick, if you sacrifice lill sugar to get well again, that is but a little sacrifice really.

How is keto did you start. I have been researching the keto/ketovore/carnivore diet for 2yrs after a fall. I started with low carb for 3 months & doubled my vege's with lots of vitamins under a Naturopath. I stopped Jan 2023 & decide to do it myself. I started on a form of keto BBBE (beef, butter, bacon, eggs) following Dr Ken Berry but had to add milk, thickened cream & yogurt after a short while to put weight back on. I was loosing a lot of hair also & wasn't sticking 100% to the keto. About 12 months ago I started Ketovore & added a few low oxalate veges. It helped my monthly seizures but did not stop. I had months I had no seizures. My seizures were started 20 years ago after numerous blow's to the head. I have just started Carnivore but its hard to get enough fat. I am also taking MCT oil.

My 4yr old son was diagnosed with epilepsy last March when out of the blue when he was sick had 3 seizures. He is currently on Kepra, onfi, and now vimpat. We tried depicote(sp) and epidiolex(sp) which only made things worse. He is also on a keto diet with only taking in around 15 carbs a day. We are in and out of the hospital so much. I really just want to take him off the meds and stick with a strict keto diet and fasting. We have done testing, labs, mri, genetic testing and his type is undiagnosed. The dr just wants to keep changing meds/increase meds but it seems like doing so only makes him worse. Is it possible to stop taking all the meds and just keto and fast? The drugs are terrible some like Keppra can cause seizures. I was started on Epilim 20 years ago when my seizures were started through a head injury after multiple blows to the head. They started at 2 a year & I was never told about these diets if I had been they may have stopped at 2. Unfortunately the drugs increased them to monthly, to around 24 a year now. I stopped all drugs in 2012 but they became worse over the years. I have been researching the keto/ketovore/ carnivore diets. You should look up Dr Georgia Ede & Dr Christopher Palmer. I was on 500 mg extended release where I had to take five pills in the morning and now my doctor change it to 500 mg it’s not extended release but I take three pills in the morning and three at night and I no longer take diazepam and I told her I don’t want anything in my rectal area or my nostrils. to break up seizures I want just the dissolvable colazapam I think it’s called or is it called calonapom

I failed Keppra, Oxycarzapine, on Depakote. Once daily but 3 x (Pillis) 500mg a day. 4 Grandma Seizures starting at the end of 2021 to Jan 11, 2023, was the last. Going in reverse even as a passenger looking in the mirror and then grabbing with my left arm to undo my seat belt is a trigger, standing to urinate also sometimes gives me this orra feeling. Have you heard of these types of daytime seizures?

This is very interesting as I’ve been diagnosed with epilepsy. I have temporal lobe seizures that are controlled with medication…which I’m not fond of…medications that is. However, they seem to be helping. But before I was diagnosed with this thing, I tried juicing, just for detox and my own personal reasons. After 7 days on the juicing, I ended up in the hospital for pain in my back and kidney areas. They couldn’t find reason for the pain but stated I was def. in ketosis…and they…ER doc suggested I come off the juice fast and start eating. They even offered me sprite and Gatorade 😳 I declined. Lol
Anyway, I came off fast eventually….I did feel better during the fast except for that incident. Thinking about completely changing diet to see if it will help with epilepsy, diverticulitis, arthritis and whatever else is trying to hold me down. And I’m only 53 and premenopausal. Am I going crazy? 🤣😂🤣
Anyway, thank you for this informative video.

Can a keto diet help with seizures caused by PNES?
I was injured 3 years ago and had a concussion. I am now diagnosed with post concussion syndrome and have every symptom under that umbrella. Six months into this period I started having seizures which I have been told is PNES. I am in therapy and was wondering if the keto diet help or hurt.
