I'm old enough to have played the original grand theft auto. Used to love just hiding on a bridge because the police drove under you but couldn't quite understand how to get up the bridge.
The biggest one is probably the Spyro series. Where Spyro was the main focus of the game up to the Skylander series, where they're practically writing Spyro out of the story. :p ...I miss Spyro...
Fallout 3. The first two were isometric survival RPGs clearly influenced by and unofficial sequels to Wasteland set in the Mojave desert of southern California. Fallout 3 is a first person shooter set on the opposite end of the American wasteland in Washington DC, with survival RPG elements.
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was a a pretty big one too, and one I was quite on the fence about at the time. I loved the more open world feel of Blood Omen but there was no denying the shift from top down to 3D drastically improved the combat, even if the lighting made things a bit of a pain at times, and the more seamless in game cut scenes gave a huge boost to the stories immersion.
Generic Space Toaster yeah still playing tf2 why would I stop , overwatch became boring surprisingly quick and the only reason I reason I return to overwatch is the cosmetics , most matches are garbage and you're ally's are more salty then the Pacific Ocean
Basically all of Legacy of Kain. The first game was meant to be an adult, gothic response to Zelda, and all of the games afterward were third-person hack-n-slashes. Until we got Nosgoth, with was a third-person multiplayer battle arena-y thing that was cancelled just a month or two before full release. They were all AMAZING games, but they definitely have some different styles between them. Not even mentioning the stylistic differences they took for Blood Omen 2, which was meant to be a completely different franchise's sequal before they realized they'd make more money off of it if it were another Legacy of Kain and decided to rewrite the entire story.
There was some cross-over with Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger. Like Kid being Schala's daughter, though the cancellation of Radical Dreamers messed a bunch of the story up.
For some reason games back in the earlier days of gaming would completely change up their formula. This is greatly apparent in almost every Nintendo IP back in the NES Era (Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, etc.) Even if almost all of those sequels tend to be considered vastly inferior to the original, I believe it's preferable to the formulaic paint job of video games today.
I still can't get past that one point in Star Fox Adventures where Fox is battling the strong Lightfoot Dino and you have to button smash the A-button. It's that dang test of strength the Lightfoot Tribe puts you thru. Any advice? I'm not good at button smashing, I'm good at creativity and strategy games. So I'm stuck for life at this level. If I could, I'd hire someone to beat it for me. I just want to get pass that one part so badly. If I could beat that one part, then the rest of the game would be easy. I've read online tips and watched walkthrus, zero help. I need actual help. Help me!!
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne because it became a third person RPG which was different from the first two games. Now SMT4 andnSMT4: Apocalypse mixed the elements and added more demons that you can recruit.
There's an illegal game shown in this, the "SELECT GAME" is a dead giveaway. The system is the Phillips VideoPac G7000 (most people think it's the Magnavox Odyssey), and the game is called Munchkin. They were sued. They lost. The game I own is illegal.
How about Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? I'm not saying it was good, but it sure was different. I was expecting something like a new version of what the PS2 Castlevania games did with a large explorable castle and unlocking new abilities to help traverse it. But it ends up being this super linear series of small levels which (if you want to 100% complete it) require you to play each more than once. So different.
If you ever do a follow up to this video, may I suggest Command & Conquer: Renegade and Worms 3D, both utter garbage departures from amazingly realised original genres.
{Prey (Classic) - Prey (2018)} Prey (Classic) left a cliffhanger at the end and since there wasn't Prey 2 they were unanswered BUT BETHESDA DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CLIFFHANGER AND I WANNA SEE IT!!!!!!!
There was "Action" in every Resident Evil...RE4 perfected the third person shooter. It did have more action, but it felt so great at the time and still does so why waste the opportunity.
I really like both Saints Row 2+3. They were/are a fun ridiculous spin off of Gta. Unfortunately, the thing with SR4 is that, well if I wanted to play Crackdown then I would have put in Crackdown. Even Gat out of Hell is better then SR4 to me honestly.
How dare you talk shit about the spec ops games on PS1, granted they were shorts, but they were fun and challenging, better played with a friend for the coop
Chrono trigger was turn based chrono cross sucked because it was a turn based button masher with almost no thought just hit buttons to do combos if you got the button right.
I loved when Mortal Kombat added an action adventure based storyline. It gave it a little more than just being a bland fight game. It's garbage now as is most fighting games. You'll have it beat in a day. Not at all worth the full sixty bucks they ask for it and even less worth the dlc horror characters they're trying to cash in on. How the mighty has fallen.
Actually the SMB2 we got in the west was actually a port of a game called Dokey-Dokey Panic only because the original SMB2 was deemed too difficult for western gamers that’s why SMB2 is so different from SMB1
Rainbow Islands the sequel to Bubble Bobble is an entirely different game. You're the bubble dragon in human form, you shoot rainbows instead of bubbles and the monsters you fight are totally different. The only way that shows it's a sequel is when you get to the final island of the game. Bubble Island.
I'm old enough to have played the original grand theft auto. Used to love just hiding on a bridge because the police drove under you but couldn't quite understand how to get up the bridge.
Man do I miss Dolan. He used to have the best content
That's true. One of the best gaming channels in RUclips
I think how Sonic changed when they did that whole pinball and 3D Blast, they got away too much with that
Fallout 2 to fallout 3 was pretty jarring imo
Was going to comment along these lines, but C History already mentioned it.

Whatever happened to this channel? I used to love it and randomly thought about it today and noticed it’s been years since an upload.

I thought this channel died

Resident Evil series has a habit of changing their gameplay perspective.
For some reason games back in the earlier days of gaming would completely change up their formula. This is greatly apparent in almost every Nintendo IP back in the NES Era (Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, etc.)

What about the difference between Jak and Daxer and Jak 2?

There was another sequel to Banjo-Kazooie it was on the N64 called Banjo-Twoie
what about Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 3D
Legacy of Kain, going from Blood Omen to Souk reaver was like night and day
Stairfax Temperatures
Really bringing those repressed memories back to the masses I see.
Wolfenstein 3D isn't actually a sequel but a reboot.
Surprised DOOM 3 wasn't on this list. It was so drastically different, a very strong love it or hate it in the series.
Surprised you didn't mention World of Warcraft, Syndicate or Duke Nukem 3D.
I've come to the conclusion that Chrono Cross takes place in an alternate universe to that of Chrono Trigger.
Soul Blade/Edge also should be part of the list cuz that and Soul Calibur ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER
Phantasy Star Online for the dreamcast was 100% different from its phantasy Star predecessors
DOOM is the grandfather of FPS games
Wolfeintein wasn't a sequel, ID bought the rights after they the original dev didnt renew there license. Still gave a thumbs up tho!

Persona 3 anyone? I got a huge shock when I decided to see what 1 and 2 were like

The CDI Zelda games are kind of like Zelda 2

Saints row is not a gta clone. You must have not played it. Thats like saying battlefield is a cod clone.
Ninja Gaiden changed a lot
I really like both Saints Row 2+3. They were/are a fun ridiculous spin off of Gta. Unfortunately, the thing with SR4 is that, well if I wanted to play Crackdown then I would have put in Crackdown. Even Gat out of Hell is better then SR4 to me honestly.
