Nice thrust testing! It does look like it's going to be a cruiser with a fairly low thrust to weight ratio but I guess that's the way it was designed. Looking forward to the Maiden. See you in the Air!
Great video, thank you! Yes, I subbed right away. I ordered one already from Banggood, then found your YT video. Am used to doing things backasswards. Now I'll be looking for other vids of your for your maidan and other takes. Helluva nice wing!
Mine arrived yesterday but it did not come with a motor servos or esc. Guess I ordered the wrong build. Oh well. Got an issue with the servos. They don't fit well with a plane size ervo. Are those servos special?
I am busy with this Sonic Model build and would love for you to please include the radio and Opentx setup for it. I am also using CRSF with a Radiomaster TX16S. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
I just finished building it. I need to run through iNav one more time, but it's ready to maiden. FYI I had one DOA servo. Fortunately I had a couple of Emax 12g MGs handy and they fit right in. I also had to add a LOT of weight on the nose to get it to balance and that's with a MultiStar 4s5200.
Yessir really great review and you did the math as well not a lot of youtubers will take the time to do thrust math in their videos, so props to you sir 👏🏽👏🏽✊🏽
Thank you. I have a lot of motor testing videos, but I'm thinking about folding motor tests into build or first look videos. This was the first time I tried it this way, so thanks for leaving a comment. It helps me figure out the best way to present information.
I noticed that about the weight. I had to add quite a bit on the nose because I'm not flying a GoPro. Thanks for the tip on trim. What do you think of the motor? Is power sufficient?
Hope the kit version has the connectors and servo pushrods...to bad I didn't get pnp version. U think my racerstar airb 2514/1498kv on 5s or 6s will be enough for higher performance ?
It should come with the pushrods. I wouldn't worry about that. Kits usually come with all the specialized hardware (horns/rods etc). Wow, yeah, that motor would push it pretty hard. Keep in mind though, this isn't exactly designed as a performance wing.
Great review! As being this my first wing, the manual says to set it to 12mm as max throw but with the linkage they give you seems to me you can't actually reduce the throw meccanically whitout having strong asymmetrical throw, did you just left 20mm+ throw or reduce it in inav to 50% or so? Thanks in advance for the advice, just need to sort this out for the maiden after 1 month of simulator!
I use the linkages to get it as close as I can then use the radio to reduce to the mark if needed. Thanks for the comment. Good luck with it. It's a tough plane. You should watch my maiden video ;)
Thanks for the video. I placed my order yesterday and i would like to know if my specs can be taken over to this new craft. specs: - D2822/14 Brushless Outrunner 1450kv - AE 30A or 40A esc linear - 3.0 lipo 3s - 7x5 TGS Precision Sport prop And some fpv stuff like a eagle tree vector and ezhuf immersion rc :-) maybe old school but still havent installed before because i couldnt find the right plane with the amount of space.. I dont want to buy new stuff so i hope i can use my old setum on this one.. can you advise? Thanks!!
It'll fly. It's hard to advise as to the outcome as I don't know how you fly or what you want. i.e. A 3s 3000 is small for that plane. Low voltage = higher amperage = less flight time. But it will fly.
Higher efficiency usually comes with a bigger prop and a slower spinning motor. I'd probably look at something like a Sunnysky v3 2216 1100 with a 10x5 prop on 3s. You'd probably get in the neighborhood of 40m flight time with a 3s 10000.
Hi,Thank you nice video!. I bought this aircraft. I plan to use a 4-cell 3300mAh, but I thought the KV of the attached motor was too high, So I chose SUNNYSKY X2216 880KV in consideration of fuel efficiency. I'm going to try 8050 or 9045 propellers. Anyway, I want to minimize mAh / km and gain distance.
You might find that setup a little soft. With a 9x4.5 prop and 4s you're looking at 950g of thrust. The test I ran showed 1500g of thrust and that puts it just over 1.0:1 power to weight at the max weight. To maximize efficiency you generally need to go with bigger props. 8x5 to 9x4.5 is not much of a change to be honest.
The KV of the motor has very little to do with overall efficiency, especially if you don't change the prop or cell count. The drag of the aircraft plays the most part.
@@RCVideoReviews ok cool I’m looking for a wing but I want to get get great footage from it have a gopro hero 7 and 9 il hold off and wait to see your video I’ve been looking at the ritewings also
Out of all the other youtubers, you say sonicmodell funny lol. Everyone I follow says MODEL not MOE DELL 🤣 I just thought it was funny. Great damn wing though!!
Model is spelled with one L. I figured cause it had two LL's like "Dell" that must be the way it was pronounced. Since then, we had a EuroJam and one of our German friends told me in Germany model is spelled with two L's, so I learned something new ;)
I bought this wing after the S800 and the ARwing 900 and it is very difficult to trim, lunch and land. I would not recommend this wing as a first plane.
Just a personal preference. I've flown every type of RC plane: Sport, Jets, 3D, FPV (long range), Wings, Racers, Warbirds, Bombers, Scale, Profile, F3A. I have over 3000 flights and I've conducted countless motor tests. To me, 1.04:1 feels soft.
Can't wait for the Build and Maiden.
Me too--it's going to be a few days for the flight as we are quarantined right now ;( Build is done though.
Excellent overview and great to see the data and how you test 5*
Thank you very much!

Yep, this is a camera ship. I'll get the maiden knocked out as soon as I can. Thanks for the comment.

About time you got your hands on this
Yeah, it's been out there in the ether for a little while. These aren't easy to get. ;)

just waiting for my motor and esc to get here as i got the kit
What motor did you get?
@@RCVideoReviews Racerstar F405 NANO FC , Sunnysky X2216-7 1400KV ,Hobbywing Skywalker ESC 50A , Frsky r9mm and 6000mah SONY VTC6 !8650

@@RCVideoReviews going with a 8x5 like my rebel GT
Great details review 🙂 I just bought one with Sunnysky x2216 1250 kv v3 not sure if it's better engine selection
I like those v3 motors. You'll be very happy with it I'm sure. Sunnysky says 1371g of thrust with an 8x6 prop on that motor.

whats the best type of tape for sticking securely to this foam?

What is a good lipo battery and charger for this wing?
4s2200 paired with an ToolkitRC M8S or M7 would be good.

That front camera by looks awfully small for an action cam, can it accommodate a Hero 7?
Yeah I’m sure that was their intent. The shelf looks just big enough for a GoPro.
@@RCVideoReviews happy days, i still got the original Ar wing, its been rock solid and amazing. Cant wait to get hold of the pro version.

About 30 pounds.
too bad the wing connectors are only 3 pin, would be nice to use those for vtx and receivers with 4 wires
I agree, I'm not a big fan of the 3 pin connectors.
If you common the ground you can manage to add things like crossfire or a video TX with smart audio on the wings
I bought this wing after the S800 and the ARwing 900 and it is very difficult to trim, lunch and land. I would not recommend this wing as a first plane.

these hatches open so easily. i'd be so paranoid of them blowing open
You can tape/magnet/velcro if needed.
The hatch stays in place very well in flight .
