When my daughter was little we spent most Saturday afternoons in the summer in that park you can hire motor boats and also a little train to ride on. I was told by an old chap I worked with in the floods in the 60s people had to vacate one of our buses via the skylight at crown square!

I live in Matlock and love it 😊 Does get a bit manic in summer though. In addition to the Hydro, Smedley also built Riber castle for his residence which looms over the town. It’s been converted into luxury apartments if you’ve got the best part of £1m to play with 😂
I meant to look into the Riber castle a little more but forgot 🙄 you do live in a lovely place i suppose you have to share it with the tourists too as annoying as that can be sometimes!! X

I don’t believe it what a coincidence my husband’s name is John, and every year we buy jumpers for him from John Smedley, absolutely top quality merino wool. If you buy a jumper from them and then decide a year later you want a cardigan to match they still sell the same colour, I ordered my husband a cardigan while we were on holiday in Palma and it arrived the day after we got back. I never worked at the NGH Recently a family member has been an in patient on Chesterman suite. Old photographs of the hospital and hung in the corridors I'd love you to give us the history behind the vickers corridor
Ian is the Scottish version of John, so he was probably called after his ancestor. My brothers name was Ian and he was the best, he passed away at the age of 14, so I am passionate about his name. Not been to Matlock for years. Such a pretty place.

Masson Mills just thought Matlock Bath is another former cotton works now shopping centre, the clothes are not to my style though but it's interesting to see the historical old cotton works side of things, it must have been awful to work the very long hours in those very unhealthy working conditions. The Derbyshire Peak District is a great place to visit although it can get very busy now on any given day of the week. I could ramble on for ages about the great walking expeditions that I've had in the Derbyshire Peaks, but won't bore you to tears telling of my days walking out there lol. Happy New Year - 2025 .

I am a subsciber of your and your brothers channel and do like your vlogs i also watch your brothers channel and remember that surprise trip he took you on to Benidorm .You kindly said you enjoyed it which i am sure you did but i cant see you as a regular on the strip. Send him up on a hot air balloon or a glider or something more terrifying should do the trick he's got away with it far to long now.

Always liked Matlock and Matlock bath. Walk up to the heights of abraham for a really steep walk. Would like to go on the cable cars but nobody else Ive been with wants to. Is the kids place still there Gulliver's kingdom?
I’ve had a really quiet xmas( by choice) but it’s been great. I’m also glad it’s over though. My uncle lived in Matlock. He died of colon cancer aged 52 in 1970. I’ve never visited though as was only about 15/16 at the time. Will go one day xx

I don't think you're much of a gothic fantasy art or rock music fan, Becky! That shop caters to all the biker rockers. Although not John Smedley, I think you'd look lovely in a wolf fleece 😂I worked the Matlock Illuminations a few years ago and it really is beautiful especially the illuminated boats which people put so much effort into. It runs from the end of September into October normally but you have to pre book your tickets it gets so busy👍

Thankyou for this Beck..this video has had me very emotional. My dad worked for Smedleys for 47 years. He worked in the old spinning mill where u put the camera through the window and it's now derelict. He took his own life in 1997 after he lost his flat, partner and then Smedleys sacked him because he couldn't cope. He stayed with me and I found him dead in my living room after he took his own life..Smedleys (disgustingly,) only gave the family 40 grand after all the years he gave to them. I've never forgiven them for what they did. The rest of my family live in Matlock. I'm glad you went there and visited it.
Oh gosh your poor dad I'm so sorry for your loss, that must have been such a devastating time for you and your family. For him to have given all those years of his life to a company to be repaid with so little 😢 😘
@BeckandBeyond Thanks Beck. All this time gone by and I'm.still angry at them. Next time your in Matlock and your looking for Giddy Edge. Go to where the cable cars are, there is a path there..if you follow it it takes u upto a road, cross the road and go through a gate and it will bring u up on the cliff top..there's a fork on the path your following, take the right path and that takes u along Giddy Edge...but be very careful up there..don't go up on a windy day.

Ha ha .. I'm one of your subscribers who can't stand Xmas ! .. I didn't post anything negative though, just ignored all the shopping, food prepping and wreath making vlogs this month ! ;-) But I do LOVE Matlock, I've always said it's my favourite place in the world and I've visited countless times since discovering it in the late 80s. I even support the football club now (from afar!) situated across the road from the Cafe In The Park outside which you were filming at one point, I try and get to at least one game a season,usually in Autumn when the town is most beautiful but haven't been there yet. I actually went to John Smedley on my last trip in September 2023 when I did the walk along the canal from Cromford Mill (the world's first water-powered cotton mill) to Lea Bridge where Smedley's are still the world's longest running factory manufacturer ... I think you were attempting to do one of my most ambitious pre-match walks up to the top of High Tor ! It starts across the track behind the Cable Car office at Matlock Bath and eventually takes you up to a clear grassy area where you have the iron fence where you can look down on Dale Road below and across towards Matlock town. If you follow it all the way you come out in Hall Leys Park ! ... I've strolled along the Derwent from Matlock to Matlock Bath dozens of times, but other good local walks are at Black Rocks just up from Cromford village, and the Lumsdale Falls one the other side of town which as well as taking in some small waterfalls, takes you past some old ruins of early mills and the Bentley Brook Brewing Co & Tap Room !! (I told James & Helen about that !) ... The Cable Car is a must, even if it's a bit rainy, fantastic views, and although it is a bit pricey, the ticket does include entry to the two impressive caves at the other end and for the ultimate view you can go up the Victoria Prospect Tower and look down on the cable cars ! ... I'd love to return soon but at present my finances have taken a bit of a knock (that polo top you bought cost £15 more than my current weekly food budget!!) It's great though that I can see so many much loved previously visited places up north, plus new ideas to add to my list for the future, through the videos made by you and James, keeps me going while stuck in flat boring Essex. Go back to the town on a clear day and see what else you can discover ... I am just a bit jealous !
Wow you do know the area well, I will definitely be going back on a clear day with Edward to do the cable cars and the walk sounds fab we just bought him some hiking gear in the sales so we could try them out on High Tor. I meant to go over to the football ground to film it but got distracted and forgot 🙄 I'm sure Essexs has lots of fab places to visit I need to venture out there! Happy New Year x

You should see the number of motorbikes on nice days! I've moved this year from London to Matlock and love the beautiful nature in the local area.

You probably already know, but you went the wrong way to lovers walk... If you'd turned right, after the bridge, there's a kiddy park and the walk follows the river, up to a bridge and to where you parked your car. Try that way next time 👍 Happy New Year (for tomorrow night).

I am a subsciber of your and your brothers channel and do like your vlogs i also watch your brothers channel and remember that surprise trip he took you on to Benidorm .You kindly said you enjoyed it which i am sure you did but i cant see you as a regular on the strip.
Send him up on a hot air balloon or a glider or something more terrifying should do the trick he's got away with it far to long now.

Always liked Matlock and Matlock bath. Walk up to the heights of abraham for a really steep walk. Would like to go on the cable cars but nobody else Ive been with wants to. Is the kids place still there Gulliver's kingdom?

I’ve had a really quiet xmas( by choice) but it’s been great. I’m also glad it’s over though.
My uncle lived in Matlock. He died of colon cancer aged 52 in 1970.
I’ve never visited though as was only about 15/16 at the time. Will go one day xx

I don't think you're much of a gothic fantasy art or rock music fan, Becky! That shop caters to all the biker rockers. Although not John Smedley, I think you'd look lovely in a wolf fleece 😂I worked the Matlock Illuminations a few years ago and it really is beautiful especially the illuminated boats which people put so much effort into. It runs from the end of September into October normally but you have to pre book your tickets it gets so busy👍
I think you're right fantasy art not my thing, it was just a very odd shop which had a very odd mix of thing so for sale 😁 but hey something for everyone good luck to them (I will not be buying a wolf fleece 🤣)

Thankyou for this Beck..this video has had me very emotional. My dad worked for Smedleys for 47 years. He worked in the old spinning mill where u put the camera through the window and it's now derelict. He took his own life in 1997 after he lost his flat, partner and then Smedleys sacked him because he couldn't cope. He stayed with me and I found him dead in my living room after he took his own life..Smedleys (disgustingly,) only gave the family 40 grand after all the years he gave to them. I've never forgiven them for what they did. The rest of my family live in Matlock. I'm glad you went there and visited it.
Oh gosh your poor dad I'm so sorry for your loss, that must have been such a devastating time for you and your family.
For him to have given all those years of his life to a company to be repaid with so little 😢 😘
@BeckandBeyond Thanks Beck. All this time gone by and I'm.still angry at them. Next time your in Matlock and your looking for Giddy Edge. Go to where the cable cars are, there is a path there..if you follow it it takes u upto a road, cross the road and go through a gate and it will bring u up on the cliff top..there's a fork on the path your following, take the right path and that takes u along Giddy Edge...but be very careful up there..don't go up on a windy day.

Ha ha .. I'm one of your subscribers who can't stand Xmas ! .. I didn't post anything negative though, just ignored all the shopping, food prepping and wreath making vlogs this month ! ;-) But I do LOVE Matlock, I've always said it's my favourite place in the world and I've visited countless times since discovering it in the late 80s. I even support the football club now (from afar!) situated across the road from the Cafe In The Park outside which you were filming at one point, I try and get to at least one game a season,usually in Autumn when the town is most beautiful but haven't been there yet. I actually went to John Smedley on my last trip in September 2023 when I did the walk along the canal from Cromford Mill (the world's first water-powered cotton mill) to Lea Bridge where Smedley's are still the world's longest running factory manufacturer ... I think you were attempting to do one of my most ambitious pre-match walks up to the top of High Tor ! It starts across the track behind the Cable Car office at Matlock Bath and eventually takes you up to a clear grassy area where you have the iron fence where you can look down on Dale Road below and across towards Matlock town. If you follow it all the way you come out in Hall Leys Park ! ... I've strolled along the Derwent from Matlock to Matlock Bath dozens of times, but other good local walks are at Black Rocks just up from Cromford village, and the Lumsdale Falls one the other side of town which as well as taking in some small waterfalls, takes you past some old ruins of early mills and the Bentley Brook Brewing Co & Tap Room !! (I told James & Helen about that !) ... The Cable Car is a must, even if it's a bit rainy, fantastic views, and although it is a bit pricey, the ticket does include entry to the two impressive caves at the other end and for the ultimate view you can go up the Victoria Prospect Tower and look down on the cable cars ! ... I'd love to return soon but at present my finances have taken a bit of a knock (that polo top you bought cost £15 more than my current weekly food budget!!) It's great though that I can see so many much loved previously visited places up north, plus new ideas to add to my list for the future, through the videos made by you and James, keeps me going while stuck in flat boring Essex. Go back to the town on a clear day and see what else you can discover ... I am just a bit jealous !
Wow you do know the area well, I will definitely be going back on a clear day with Edward to do the cable cars and the walk sounds fab we just bought him some hiking gear in the sales so we could try them out on High Tor. I meant to go over to the football ground to film it but got distracted and forgot 🙄 I'm sure Essexs has lots of fab places to visit I need to venture out there! Happy New Year x

Essex is very flat & dull compared to the wonderful North of the country (and the South & West too !) but it has one or two litle areas of interest, so if you ever do find yourself coming here, get in touch and I will point you towards them. I don't like Christmas, most shops have spoilt it by opening boxing day so christmas to me is one day, roll on Summer get in the garden and holiday time ,thanks for the lovely quite walk around . All the very best for 2025 fingers crossed it's a better year 🥂

It's nice you featured Matlock and Matlock Bath. I had a giggle when you entered that horrible shop. It's the worst shop I've entered and, yes, too many chippies. You should see the number of motorbikes on nice days! I've moved this year from London to Matlock and love the beautiful nature in the local area.

You probably already know, but you went the wrong way to lovers walk... If you'd turned right, after the bridge, there's a kiddy park and the walk follows the river, up to a bridge and to where you parked your car. Try that way next time 👍 Happy New Year (for tomorrow night).
