I have a good feeling the reason why the Xen cannon was removed from the PS2 version is because of how much it would've been a pain for the Player to try to destroy it.
PS2/Dreamcast maps did cut some NPC's and entities like Xen Cannon which is a loss, but this was made not only because they rebalanced gameplay a bit, they also did decreased size of map files to fit into game CD, because consoles back in 1998 had really small amount of memory, but level designs in console versions is still very superior to PC
One of the main reasons why i prefer much more the PS2 version over the PC ;) Thanks for the video, btw there´s also some differences in some deathmatch maps i think.
The last section of the alien grunt factory from Interloper is also different in the PS2 version. That little room in one of the corners with the healing shower is not present
PS2 half-life is the 100% definitive edition of the game, the models are better, there is new voice acting, and certain parts of old maps are improved or expanded
@@pksmd_dag no the ps2 ones dont lol stfu. ps2 had better models + moving fingers and eyes and model for eyeglasses the textures was great. it the dreamcast textures and models that were ported into pc
@@plumbermations6030One of the places in "Apprehension" in the mod has missing textures. I believe it was caused of the 25th anniversary update as some mods sometimes tend to break when the game gets a major update.
It was actually programmed first in Blue Shift i think, so you dont kill the Black Mesa personal. In PC you can, after they open the door for you, kill them and still complete the training, so Gearbox must think it breaks the inmersion.
Its also way more janky to play. I didnt remember that, or it could be that Steam updates broke the game a bit, but even the PS2 version that was released in 2001 has somehow less bugs than the Steam last updated release which was kind of dissapointing, included slighty better AI. When playing the PC OG it reminds me to Quake, but when i play the PS2 port it makes it feels slighty more closer to a real shooter. It makes the transition to HL2 more smooth imo (included some other references and things as well).
If you want to use it on vanilla HL then you rather choose Dreamcast maps, since they more close to PC PS2 maps has some of best mapping design, but textures and health chargers need to be replaced in here trough some programs like bspguy

to my knowledge ps2 half life does cut down on enemy placements in other areas of the game.

the deathmatch maps do have "sequels" that are altered versions of the pc ones

Did not know that, sorry for glossing over Xen.

tbh the HD models suck anyway as all half life community said
@@pksmd_dag Your irrelevant opinion.

Wish we could have that on PC.
you can, there's a mod for it

Sick
I never knew there were differences!
I felt the immense disappointment when the weapons vanished.

The Office Complex elevator blowing up and the slight layout change is really weird to me. Does it feel more "realistic" this way?
i do think quite a few of the changes in the ps2 version were made to make it feel less "gamey".
Well, it feels like everything fell apart.
Well, in multiple places of the game Black Mesa is malfunctioning so yes.
I actually prefer the PS2 Version because it looks way more realistic. The PC Version is good too but it is too "gamey".

Can you give the map pack?
