I have a feeling Simon will get more invitations from another MotoGP teams. He deserves it as he’s the extension of MotoGP fans around the world! So happy for him always!
Simon is what makes Dorna's coverage watchable. An extension of us, yes, but also a better rider than we (I) could ever hope to be. God praise Simon Crafar.
I FUCKING love Simon dude. He's hilarious in the sense that emotion really doesn't ooze out of him but his PASSION for motorcycles, second to none. That old school riding position on a brand new factory Ducati made me chuckle. Gonna be hard to top this bucket list experience. Lucky dog
Amen. Totally agree. I was not a fan of his at first. His delivery was slow and his hesitation to talk made me think he had nothing to say, and that he was even self-conscious of short comings, like his slow, staccato delivery, and that it wasn't connecting with fans. While I think its true that he wasnt connecting, and that he was painfully aware of it, and as the other commentators waited for him to get out his ideas, already extending their patience for a sport based in insane speeds, it just made everyhting even more awkward. I think most people in that position, that far disconnected from the expectations, would fold. However, he seemed ever determined to try and connect, organically, with everyone in teh paddock, giving anyone from the lowest paid mechancis to Marc Marquez the same respect, deference, and consideration. WHile he hasn't necessarily imropve much on his slow delivery, his earnestness and the evolution of his questioning and listening has risen to a sort of art that is his adroable siganture. To be sure, Im just asshole enought to not let him get away with his earnestness and politness alone. I woudl totally be boycotting his ass if he didnt advance his craft at all and become someone of signifcant value to the MotoGP experience. Im not the most patient or tolerant guy, and woudl probably be doubly angry if he kept his job merely out of pity, but taht is not the case at all. He stayed focused, remained true to his heart, and constinuosuly worked at getting better at his role despite all the doubters. Strangely, I just realized how much I've came around to him. Just the other day I was listening to one of "The-Race" MotoGP Podcast." I didnt read the preview of teh episode so I didnt see that Simon Crafar was a "Special Guest." AS soon as they mentioned hsi name, I felt a bolt of excitement that I got to hear him get interviewed, and what his insights were, and how he woudl react with zero of the obligations he has in hsi role at MotoGP on teh weekends. And boy, did he deliver. Six months ago, I would have immediately skipped over him. Im glad I grew up
He is not just one of the most underestimated greats he is a great guy. In Kiwi speak he shares "Mana tangata". That is the greatness of family, people, the sharing of his strength an knowledge. He has mentored young Kiwi's, taken them in his home and backs all the young riders. He has not had it easy as he had back badly broken by a dumb driver in a road accident. A true Kiwi hero. Arohanui Simon. You make me proud to be a Kiwi.
Motogp never ever let Simon go! He's such a good commentator and gives us so much good information! I'd love to just sit with Simon, beer in our hands and just talk bikes
This was so good to watch. I wish we could see more footage. Shout out to Ducati and Michelin for making this happen. Would love to see Troy Bayliss have this opportunity too.
I can only imagine how special this was for an ex-GP rider, though he was on a beastly 500cc 2-Stroke. The experience of 350 HP, incredible carbon disks, aerodynamics, electronics must have taken him back to his days on his bike. I could only smile for Simon throughout this video.
You have been my favorite commentator of passion and excitement that simply being near andriding a motorcycle can bring. Mr. Crafar..You are a Legend! From your dialogue and body language, it nearly felt as if I was riding along side. You are the Valentino Rossi/Marq Marquez of this commentating Era.
I’ve followed Simon’s career since he was racing here in NZ. Genuinely one of the nicest blokes you could meet and still to this day, he’s mad about motorcycles! He’s got a real knack of taking you on the journey and feeling what he feels! Love it!!
Saw title and smashed the like button!...then watched it.😄 Edit: Hahaa, I'd like it again if I could. Simon is great value, really appeciate his sharing MotoGP with us. Thankyou Ducati, thankyou Dorna for this one.
Best ever quote : "EVERYTHING WAS BETTER THAN ME"! - SIMON CRAFAR After Riding the '22 Ducati w/ full Electronics on Michelin Tires around Misano in Anger
"I've never felt anything like it" ~ Simon Crafar... GP winner... 500cc era rider. That is an impressively strong statement. I have my grid favorites, but an onboard lap with Simon always makes the weekend. Thanks. Dorna/principles: from a fan perspective... this guy is gold. Treat him well.
Simon, you are the best MotoGP commentator for years, your comments are made with thoughtfulness and provide well worded detail that I for one love yo hear.
We could only imagine, but Thanks to MotoGP teams and Simon for making us viewers have a more in depth and feeling about the MotoGP world and what riding MotoGP bike is like. Been a fan of Ducati bikes for how long... Awesome Content
I definitely enjoyed the video. It looks so impressive to have an opportunity to ride a bike like that and also how you transmitted all the emotions and feelings. I was imagining myself on the bike too.
Done with a passion and excitement that such a unique experience deserves. Very few have the perspective and delivery of Simon to do that justice. Well done to everyone involved, a real treat for the fans. ✊👍
His first season in GP as commentator was an abomination to put it nice as he tried to find his confidence and voice. Dylan as so smooth in his presentation prior. Now i watch going, "why are they not going to simon more than this". Truely an asset to Dorna and the fans.
While you were making noises of excitement, I did my best to imagine how fantastic it is to ride. I listened to your gear changes and rpm's and it sounds so smooth to ride! Not lucky my friend, blessed by God! Thank you for bringing us so close and dropping so much info. From your instructional video series to your motogp involvement, I have learned more to improve my racing from you, Simon, than all other online content combined!! You have been a blessing to me.
That's so amazing! I loved seeing Dorna, michelin and ducati do this for Simon. He definitely deserves it. We love all his informative, helpful and interesting facts about the sport.
Congratulations Simon that was amazing to watch, lucky man, I’d give my internal organs to get a chance to ride Pecco’s bike at Mizano. Fantastic mate, well done! 👏😍
Happy for you, but intensely jealous as well. Mate, you are living the dream!! Riding these for the pleasure, without the pressure of contesting for a championship. Nice💯
Simon I am so pleased for you !! Genuinely good guy, so good for MotoGP and nothing better than watching a racer/biker still getting excited about bikes 👏👏👏👏
Fantastic Simon You really deserved this incredible experience..Congratulations on your fantastic career. From one Kiwi to another You make me and every Kiwi proud with the way you conduct yourself on the world stage. Oh and by the way I used to work with your sister at Dunedin hospital in the late 1990's Keep up the great work. Nick Australia
Incredible video, just love hearing and seeing Simon in these types of videos. The only thing that comes to mind is, are these new, highly electronic moto gp bikes , "easy" to ride ? Is it truz what the media is saying? How come we are seeing "rookies" wining so early in their moto gp starts ? A few years back you would never see such a thing ? I don't know, it seems like the bikes are becoming too electronically aided
Just enormous! What lucky guy 🙂 I think that the most beautiful present that we can receive when you are a moto rider is to ride a Ducati Desmosedici GP! Thank you for sahre your feeling and thak you for the embedded camera!
14 years ago Ben Spies was blown away when he first rode the motogp Yamaha bike. And he was AMA champion. He said even in 6th gear the bike wants to wheelie. And Yamaha was among the least powerfull bikes. Imagine now after 14 years of development how a motogp bike should feel, especailly a Ducati.
I have a feeling Simon will get more invitations from another MotoGP teams. He deserves it as he’s the extension of MotoGP fans around the world! So happy for him always!
VERY well said!
Simon is what makes Dorna's coverage watchable. An extension of us, yes, but also a better rider than we (I) could ever hope to be. God praise Simon Crafar.
Simon commentates with no bias so I can only see the other teams wanting him to have a ride. Best thing for MotoGP too.
