@@MotoGiant - While riding in very rural Kentucky yesterday, my buddy said, "People who live in cities have no idea this part of the country even exists." Most of the United State isn't the metropolitan crime zones where the people ignore or disparage the "fly over country"... those places that produce the food they eat and the energy that enables their urban lives.
@@MotoGiant - Some people legitimately prefer the urban lifestyle. At best, I chalk that up to a preference for what you know, but I mostly think of it as someone in hell with a No Place Like Home cross stitch hanging on their wall. I don't get it. I live in a town of almost 400,000 people now, and it's become too much like a big city for me. I need to get out into the country but I don't think I have a move left in me, although when discussing my need to declutter my life, a friend once told me that three moves is as good as a fire.
Man I’m loving this TAT series, I’ve had it on my bucket list for a long time & I just bought a Africa twin with hopes of making the trip sometime this year
Glad you are into the series! I was pretty surprised at how challenging and fun the trip was, as I always turned my nose up at all the "dirt roads" - be prepared to be challenged, and go as light as possible - that AT is big, and you do not want anymore weight on it than you need!
17:05 - Bee sting. I watched the rest waiting to see anaphylactic shock on a rural road in Oklahoma. 23:35 - After getting permission to camp, you should have asked the helpful Elkhart police officer if he knew where to find some adult entertainment. There's probably some corn fed Only Fans gals in Elkhart. 😲 It's neat to watch the quick short videos from the road and then see the longer more detailed videos posted months later when you're able to edit the videos. A friend and I had a 411 mile ride yesterday. I told my 92 year old Mom about riding all that way across Kentucky to cross the Green River on the Reeds Ferry, ride another hour (including 2 miles of GPS surprise on a loose gravel road), then across the Green River again on the Rochester Ferry. Mom said, "Two faries on two ferries." Ouch. I come by my acerbic wit honestly. That's the same Green River from the John Prine song. Down by the Green River where paradise lay. Well, I'm sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking. Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away.
This is intriguing! I must admit, I don't know much about Oklahoma either, let alone considering riding there. I can imagine that sand riding can be quite challenging. Even in Utah, I can only handle one day of it before feeling too exhausted to ride well the next day. Your video was excellent, and while I can't say I'm fully convinced to ride across the country to explore Oklahoma just yet, I definitely enjoyed it. LOL.
I have never done anything like this. I bought my DR650 to DO the TAT and Oklahoma is the nearest portion to my location. Is it cool to camp on the side of the road next to corn fields anywhere? Or is it a special spot y'all found? I don't think there are many national forest to camp at in Oklahoma so that option is out. Thanks for video its great!
we certainly found a special spot (with trees and water) but I suggest there are many more spots - check out some of my stealth camping videos for more on that topic
Great vid! Just subbed. Question - thinking of tat west to east trip. Any recommendations on when to attempt it for the best weather? Would like to not hit Oklahoma in the wet season (per your advice), but also no snow in passes or out east either. Any advice?
Great question, as you will see in upcoming videos snow is rarely an issue after July, but we ran into a mess on Ophir pass after heavy winter snow. Other than that it is hard to predict weather, but mud is on thing I would avoid like plague - mid to late summer should work for most of the trail?

Nicely edited. Free camping and a fireworks show!
thank you Elkhart, Ks. !!

@@Liberty4Ever I once thought the cities had something more to offer over small towns....still wondering why I ever thought that?

Great stuff, Don! You and Richard make a great team!
Yes we do!

@@MotoGiant yeah ive also got a 500exc i was considering riding as well
@@Yortwash Sadly, the AT would be great on 90% of the TAT, but its that 10% you will REALLY be wanting the KTM instead. Tough choice.
Great video. Really enjoying your trip
Thanks Big Dave!
Gr8 post, thanks a million!👍

good stuff!
Take a screen shot at the 5 minute mark and put that on the wall. That will make a great photo..
That image was computer wallpaper worthy. The composition and artistic style was different but the quality was worthy of Sterling Noren. 🙂

Just a small taste of sand - we get knee-deep in it coming up in Utah !! :(
I LOVE Kansas, I have camped at so many city parks all over that state!
Oh I so remember those ruts. Certainly have to have your wits about you when traversing.

@ awesome thanks much for the information.
what did you guys do for food ?
I had intended to cook, but the pace rarely allowed for that so we snacked and ate Quick Stop food, with an occasional restaurant thrown in.
Btw, your cattle-calls,...ummm, need some work!
certainly needs improvement - raised in the city ya know?
