@@shootingstarzz6161 "Apes don't turn into humans. Whales never walked on land and fish don't grow feet." Good thing no evolutionary biologist has ever claimed such absurdities. For the first point, the common ancestor for apes and humans split at some point in the past. Due to environmental pressures and random mutation, the descendants of that ancestor slowly, over thousands of years, developed into australopithecines, and some of their descendants slowly, over thousands of years, developed into the genus Homo, some of which further evolved into humans.
The length of the time periods evolution requires for change, the extremely slow and gradual change, and the fact that only a tiny fraction of all organisms are fossilized, makes evolution seem counter-intuitive in some way. I understand. But it is more likely than Young Earth Creationism (or even Christianity) because the claims it has made do get borne out when they are tested.

I cannot pinpoint which species was the common ancestor, because I am a) not an evolutionary biologist, and b) the fossil record is not complete due to time and the fact that the organisms that do become fossilized are a tiny fraction of those that existed. As far as apes giving birth to "half-breeds," that ignores the fact that each change, mutation, and adaptation takes thousands of years. It is not like two apes mated, and gave birth to a homo erectus. It is more like two apes mated, gave birth to an offspring with a small change in its DNA, which passed that change to its offspring, and then 10 generations later another change was introduced.

For me the killer issue is that any hypothesis meant to overturn consensus needs to explain observations at least as well as, and preferably better than, the existing consensus. Young Earth creationism simply never meets that standard.
And proponents of the hypothesis can't even point to any kind of systemic problem in the associated fields that even requires an alternate hypothesis. Every supposed problem they point out is always well understood through significant observation and experimentation to not even be a problem. Meanwhile, every supposed solution they propose turns up new problems at every angle you approach it from, and most of their time is spent feebly plugging the gaps with yet more explanations that have yet more problems. This is simply the opposite of what we would expect to find with a stronger hypothesis meant to overturn the consensus.
Indeed, the young Earth creationist position is so fundamentally flawed in so many ways any reputable scientist could reject it on that basis alone even in the absence of a competing consensus or even untested hypothesis. If no alternate explanation existed we would still be on better scientific footing than with YEC.

What I find frustrating as a professional scholar, but also a hobbyist within STEM, is that most of this information is not highly technical or just within the realm of experts, whatever that means. To understand radiometric dating at a good-enough level requires just a quiet afternoon and a well written textbook. This is not beyond anyone with some time and some basic chemistry knowledge. As a multidisciplinary scholar, I have been required time and again to understand the basic debates and groundwork within a particular field before providing my own arguments and papers. Part of my training was in Archaeology, and the various multifaceted methods used within the field. Thus what I find interesting about the problem of YEC is that what it gets wrong is elementary; most of their ideas and arguments can be disproven by educated children. And this leads me to my final thought, if YEC can and do fool so many about science, which is rather basic in the grand scheme of things, then what does this say about America's (because it is a predominantly an American issue) education system? Warm regards and thank you for the video, L.

We have right wing "news" channels that place scientific ignorance on a pediatal while excoriating actual experts. Look how we elected Donald Trump as our president, and accused Dr Fouci of corruption as we moved into a world pandemic. We have almost half the country beleiving that vaccines are a way for the left to "take our freedoms." So I know this comment is kinda old at this point, just thought I'd put in my two cents from someone who escaped the "teachings" of a YEC background.
While I completely agree with all of your points, there is one thing I'd like to point out, that a lot of people who have never been on the inside will understand: while yes these types of pseudo-science do often tend to attract people who either purposefully don't bother or are unable to critically think about the implications of what the cult is peddling, there are also people like myself, who was completely raised within the system and led to believe in no uncertain terms that the "scientists/evolutionists" were purposefully stretching the truth at least and at most completely lying about the facts and data. This was of course all while I was being told to make sure that I critically question everything I am told (probably trying to keep me from studying the science myself), and I am being told this by people who, while maybe not directly complicit in purposefully deceiving people, at the very least the people at the top who everyone gets their info from, is.
Speaking of that, when you are constantly being told that group A is untrustworthy, and group B (essentially) cannot be wrong cuz God is on their side (to clarify: since they are teaching about what the TRUTH of the Bible says, and since the bible is infallible, if they are telling the bible's side of things, they are right, and anyone who says otherwise is dishonest).
Sorry for rambling, but TL;DR: not everyone who believes this stuff does so out of intentional ignorance, and if shown the actual arguments and data that is out there, would at least question some things. Don't overlook the power of propaganda and misinformation/information concealment.
Cheers btw, didn't mean to highjack your comment, and as I said earlier, I agree with all your points. just the end of your comment "inspired me" lol

I’m pretty sure rock that’s hot enough to be “not quite liquid but still malleable,” is still called lava. Is he saying the entire planet was a volcanic hellscape? I’ll admit I’m not a geologist and could very well be wrong on this, but I have been to areas with high volcanic activity and feel like it’d be pretty noticeable if the entire planet was lava only a few thousand years ago.

Fantastic video. I have used the Green River Formation many times as my argument but was unaware of the Castille Formation. As a varve it has a much shorter history, only hundreds of thousands of years opposed to millions. But it has got to be pretty tricky to dry out the Earth many thousand times to make what amounts to salt deposits in the middle of a worldwide flood.
One of my favorites has been to use the embedded meanders of Goosenecks State Park. It is a tributary to the Colorado so its geologic history is going to largely mirror that of the Grand Canyon. The embedded meanders of Gooseneck State Park show that the rock was extremely well indurated before it was eroded. And a flood simply will not make that sort of erosion pattern. It would cause sheet flow. Not meanders. Increase the volume of water to the necessary levels to erode that formation that quickly and it would overflow and go into sheet flow.

I do agree that online YEC's won't let us talk on our subjects of expertise, but they are highly insistent that we stick to their very specific and very predictable scripts. Standing For Ooof is super good at that as he can draw a naïve person onto his script within a few sentences. His channel seems to be full of those things he calls "rescue devices" while accusing scientists of using them. A global hypercane seems to be the definition of a rescue device, but I'd say "God did it" is the OG rescue device.

    Thank you for this video.
I've had the similar argument too, too often with people at church, that it seems that YEC always, always, always argue about things not in their purview of their discipline. Engineers tell us about geology, geologists tell us about biology, biologists tell us about astrophysics, astrophysicists try to explain everything in terms of engineering.
Could it be, possibly, the people in the various fields of study KNOW the weaknesses in the arguments presented? And so instead of saying "Hey, guys, I've ran the numbers/studied that, and it doesn't really work", they focus on a different field than the one they know, because how different can they really be.
I've often said that a first year student in just about any discipline can beat a YEC in a debate. And RUclips has shown that I'm correct.

And I doubt you, or anyone else, can refute a person with advanced degrees. Unless, as usually happens, you end the discussion with "GOD! The Bible!! I WIN!!!" Which, honestly, doesn't work, and explains nothing.
GOD created the laws that govern our universe. And GOD created the science that many, many people have studied for HUNDREDS of years, and who have checked and cross-checked each other. And that science says the universe and the Earth are way old.
A conceptual model that explains what has happened in the past, in line with what we know about the various fields of science, and makes testable predictions cannot be done with YEC. You have to bend and twist and spindle and ignore a lot of a lot of the science.
What is the ultimate answer? I don't know that. But I have no doubt it does not lie in YEC.

Your god is omnipotent but loses a wrestling match. (Genesis 32:24-30). Your god is omnipresent but needs to send angels to check on events (Genesis 18:21). And your god is omnibenevolent but creates humans already knowing which ones will go to Hell and burn forever.
Evolution by Natural Selection has been shown to be fact for over 150 years. All attempts to disprove it have failed miserably. Meanwhile, I can falsify your god with a few sentences.

I can see why for those that believe in the flood to see as good points what creationists say that validates the flood story do to how complicated the topic is. This is why they never debate the experts in the field. All they need is to look smart in a very difficult subject, pretending to have the answer when they know it’s just BS, but for those that are ignorant in the subject any explanation will fill the blank, no matter how stupid it is. Isn’t this what religion is all about? They are experts creating or selecting very difficult topics, talking as a authority about it and convincing those that have no expertise that this is the answer. It’s feeding on ignorance.

Like, for a start, anything that uses electricity, or anything made of plastic. Or, of course, the Internet! Few of the CCC loonies are logical about this (or about anything, for that matter).
If they were, just imagine the effect (perish the thought) of an accident at home. No quick smartphone call for an ambulance. Instead, out to the back garden, light a fire, send up a smoke signal, wait for the local shaman to see it, finish what he's doing, grab her bag of herbs and potions, harness up her chariot and trot over (hopefully in time to help).
