It's big, it's bad, and it's... BLUE! It's RBM&N's reciently restored 4-6-2 Pacific, #425, and she's back and better than ever. Painted in a classy blue and gold paint scheme, the engine is certainly an eye-grabber, as it races down the R&N main. We'll watch as the crew cleans the locomotive and prepares the 425 for its journey, and then, we'll take you trackside, to witness this historic event. So come along, as we follow the 'Four-and-a-Quarter' to Jim Thorpe.
Although I have aged many years since my elementary school days, watching this video regularly hasn't stopped.

I'm remember watching a long time ago. Lots of videos I used to watch when I was little.
That is the single best whistle I have ever heard on the single best locomotive I have ever seen with the single best sounding bell.
14 years later and this video is still so amazing. That whistle is so beautiful. Especially when it echoes through the Pennsylvania mountains. I wish they would paint it back into that bright blue paint. What a beautiful locomotive and video.
The man is blowing the whistle I know he’s having fun!
4:27 The Reading 6 Chime is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard
Beautiful engine, and to my ears, the best sounding whistle I can recall hearing. The Reading, Pennsylvania, and Lehigh Valley Railroads all ran lines through the towns, farmlands, and woods around where I grew up just north of Reading, where the Reading and Northern runs today. I was lucky enough to get to see steam trains on regular runs almost daily as a boy, and I miss them. I was pleasantly surprised by this engine one day a few years ago, when it was running on a track next to a highway I was traveling in northern Berks county. Like the videographer in this video, I paced her while she was on a straightaway there, and loved every minute of it.
I remember seeing this video years ago. It's a classic.
That whistle is my all-time favourite out of all whistles. It's just so powerful and mysterious, I frickin love it!
She makes me foam every time I hear that whistle and see her. She’s still running strong.
@Aiden Andrews She’s still running like she was brand new
Bless your heart. I know how you feel. I grew up watching steam locomotives in action with my late father. They were all gone by the time I was ten. Now, my father is gone as well.
after 3 weeks
im still commenting. i cant forget this train its just so nostalgic and the whistle is so amazing
All these years later, and it’s still my favorite engine.
This train is beautiful!!! I love the color too!
I remember back in like the first grade when I loved steam trains. And I watched this video one day when I was sick on a foggy day. And the memory stuck for a while.

I was just scrolling through my channel because I was bored, then I saw this, when I was young, I was OBSESSED with trains
Superb video! Thank you so much for sharing it. I just love steam locomotives. I even get the smells around the trains in my nose as if I was standing nearby. What memories of youth they bring!!! Take care and if you continue to upload steam locomotives or related to them, please be sure to send me. Keep up your excellent work. I see you are a real train fan. So am I. Have always been fascinated by them. Take care!

Thank you for posting this! My daughter watches this ALL the time!! she LOVES choo choos!!

This right here is the first footage and the first time I’ve ever seen or heard this locomotive. This video led to my love of this engine, as it is currently my all time favorite. Penn, I’m happy to say you’ve brung this joy to me.
I would really love to see this running that fast again like one of the shots you had. Nothing beats high speed steam.
God, I just love how the whistle screams. It’s so powerful.
I remember watching this for the first time back in elementary school. So nostalgic!
Thank you so so much for this wonderful video. Those beautiful, wailing, soulful whistles bring back an incredibly wonderful era in my life as a little guy living in Annandale, Virginia in the 40s and in North Carolina in the 50s. Back then, I never dreamed we'd lose the beauties into history. Thanks, again, for capturing these beautiful sights and sounds for the rest of us. Semper Fi, y'all

Very cool to see the old girl running again, if only for a little while. Definitely a thing of beauty watching her come alive.
The GG1 IS MY FAVORITE DESIL ENGINE !!! Getting down in full power mode ,on a grade !!! Listen to its power at work !!! 😁😁

@1985chrisross I agree! It's THE engine to see in PA!
This train's whistle is my childhood sound
It’s 2019/2020 and I’m turning 18 soon and every time I watch this it brings back so many memories from being a little boy. I would always show this video to my parents.
I turned 12 now I used to watch this when I was 6
On the GM&N it was a G-1 class. It has retained it's G-1 class status throughout its lifetime, as far as I know.
Ye
My boys LOVE these steam train videos. Nice work! What a bygone era...
This steam engine train brings history very alive! I like it very much!!
It reminds me of the blue comet
I usually don’t like super high pitched whistles, but the reading 6 chime is one exception.
Beautiful engine & nice video, Thank you for posting!
I had the pleasure of being hauled by this locomotive in august 2020.....Jim Thorpe PA.
God I love that haunting sound of a steam locomotive's whistle echoing over the hills.
That was cool when it was speeding! What a beautiful train!
Great stuff. And that beautiful mournful whistle! I didn't know you could play tunes on a steam whistle...
Damn, how could anyone dislike this beautiful piece of history?!

I think this has one of my favorite whistles on an engine, probably right behind the 765's whistle.
I like the whistle from 425 best, but that's just my opinion.
God I feel old, I remember watching this as a Kid. Good memories

4-6-2 in all its glory.....love the quill of the whistle!
Very nice video what a beautiful engine love the haunting whistle. Cheers
He's lovin' those draincocks!!
That is one beautiful 4-6-2.
Nothing like hearing the whistle of a steam locomotive in the distance.
Very beautiful engine well filmed. Thanks for uploading and thumbs up! :)
It's the automatic drain valve on the diesel in the background. This valve is mounted under the first main air reservoir tank (there are two in series). Once the air is compressed, the moisture precipitates out of it. This valve senses the collected water and "spits" it out.
The engine its blue i like it
The blue is my favorite color
Deklan's Gamer same
the color of it has been darkened.
I love Blue💙💙💙
Rosie hood girl 42 fuck ofof

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last time I saw this engine in person ISTR that she was all no-nonsense flat black except for number and lettering. I like this new livery. It is very classy. Great video. Thanks.
Great looking Baldwin Steamer. That young boy doesn't know his hand signals very well. Wonderful memories.
Fabulous videography! Well done, sir.
i cryed so much during this vid i dont know why i just like seeing this train :) plz what ever you DO NOT RETIRE HER YET!
This is such a cool video! I imagine it must be a huge challenge keeping these locomotives running.
Thanks for posting vid !
This is truly a handsome machine !! My only regrets is I wish I was alive when these machines were brand new !!! Love the past & hate today's ugly ass world !!! Ps. My father & grandfather were workers on the P.R.R. , from steam to desil , 1910 to 1994 !! Grandpa born 1892 !!
Observations:
1.) I don't know if the constant bell-ringing is a Pennsylvania-only thing, but living less than 100 yards from a heavily trafficked grade crossing, I can tell you that it's ubiquitous in modern freight.
2.) That Reading 6-chime makes this blue meanie sound like it's at least five times more intimidating than it actually is.
3.) That secondary "billboard" tender is tacky as all hell, but so is most of NEPA.
4.) I fucking love 425 and I can't wait until 2102 joins it on the main line. I rode that beast as a kid and I'll kill to ride it again.
LOVE the sound of the whistle echoing in the surrounding hills.o other sound like it.
I miss this version of 425.
Great video! Glad its back up! And nice special blue PRV logo
This is a great video, thanks so much for the work you put into it! The whistle beginning at 8:25 is so haunting...
they really were putting that engine through its paces, even after all the years its had, its kinda rare to see a video of a steam loco actually moving at a decent speed
Sheesh, someone needs to adjust that air dryer! XD
He's letting his engine warm up properly. When an engine is first started, all that iron has to heat up so it doesn't condense the steam and knock the cylinder heads off.
Most of the time when you see these engines they're already warm from moving about to get hitched to the train or bring it to the platform, that's why they only release a little steam before closing the drains.
Great video with a good variety of camera angles showing this iron lady at her best. Thanks for posting.
I just realised blue is a rather fancy color for steam locos. Looks good.
ziiofswe he's a handsome engine isn't he?
RRIA AMERICA ิๅิิิ
