- in today's video we look at starting to collect the armies of The Sultan, the Kapoukouli! we're focusing more on a 'Turkish' force here, but let me know if you'd like to see an Otto-Egyptian one or even the Nizam-i-jedid!
As always thanks so much to the members of the channel, and thank you for watching!
Catch you next time,
Tim
by the way, Recently Perry miniatures has released a Napoleonic Ottoman range, if this helps anyone collecting an ottoman army
I’d b very interested in u doing this one again, now the Perrys have brought out their Ottomans. I think Napoleon vs Egyptian/Ottomans is going to prove popular when the new movie comes out.
For less know companies, there is Trent Miniatures (taken by Warlord), Steve Barber Model have Greek rebellion range, there is also Warfare Miniatures USA. But they are metal ones, so still expensive.
12 men is standard for Pike&Shoote units. So the Warlord box makes lot of sense.
Not cheap but spectacular!
Great video as always! Worth having a play with plastic Perry ACW Zouave box as well. The fezes, turbans, baggy trousers and waistcoats seem quite Ottomany. Might help bulk out an army on the cheap
“This will be an expensive army”
Me: thank god for 3D printing 😂
Have seen some ottoman stl on cults3d
That’s them 👍🏻
I don’t need a new army…… I will just take a little look though…. Lol. I was surprised that you didn’t look at Brigade Games as they have several Ottomans in their range. Plus another interesting range which might fit is the range of Greek Wars of Independence that Mezzers Miniatures sells
Yeah, I love Brigade games. My mamelukes and nizam I cedid are all from them, but I wanted a more janissary focused one.
Hello! Great video you have here! Could you please make one on Nizam-i-jedid?
Brilliant…. Really informative
Think your missing a trick with old glory, they've got a massive range
Some of it is a bit old fashioned but the Janissaries and cavalry are good
There's also essex, tercios, league of augsburg, eureka to name a few
TAG are nice minis, but at £13 for 3 cavalry or £8 for 4 infantry they ain't cheap
Janissaries were organised by weapons type, so a mixed box of sword and shield Janissaries and shot armed Janissaries is a bit useless.
However you could use the sword & shield Janissaries as Serdengecti - these were volunteers drawn from existing Ortas for suicide missions or forlorn hopes, a bit like in the way the British withdrew flank companies from within the 3-4 battalions within a brigade and grouped them together for siege assaults or storming key positions.
Very nice, all the best, Garry
You have just got to do Mameloukes.
Love your channel, keep up the great work!
Excellent advice
Topijis (regular artillery) used French style 6pdrs as well as their own oriental types. The 25 regular batteries had 10 guns as you say - 4x French 6pdr, 2x Abus howitzers (Renaissance 8pdr type), 4x Culverins (18-113pdr Renaissance era guns). The latter were often left behind (I used oxen to pull mine) whereas the other 6 guns formed a mobile field battery.
Jan 2024. Have watched this a few times. Great. Was wondering whether you'll be updating it in light of Perry's Ottomans.
I've started an Ottoman Army and just got my first figures for a Napoleonic Persian army
Really enjoyed this.
I always come into these videos like I don't need this yet but once I finish my current project I'll start this.....but by the end I'm like well......I may as well just start now
Great stuff love these videos 👍
The Nizam-i-Jedid had regular infantry, lancers, and mounted infantry, and the 1st Regiment also had a battery.
I am sure practical wargamer did a two part article on the French v mamalukes. There were converted Indian heavy cavalry etc. I will have to dig them out. I love TAG but never pulled the trigger due to price, that may change, such a good starter video, well done!
For Mamelukes there must be someone who makes the French Mamelukes in 28mm -just replace swords with spears.
The Renaissance Djellis had changed in appearance by the time of the Napoleonic wars.
Outpost have just released some Bashi Bazouks for the Russo-Turkish war, on foot and horse, that could also be used as Albanians.
There are some interesting looking stl files for ottoman infantry, cav, artillery and commanders on the cults 3d site if you have access to a 3d printer- sized for 28mm and probably cost effective for such an exotic force.
Yeah I've seen them, but I wasn't a huge fan if I'm honest. They seem to have very strange faces!
Great video for a cool army - can’t wait for more! Would love to see a Mameluke video too.
Very good video
A very interesting look into an army that isn't one of the main ones, or even one of the common theatres (as least in the UK version of history...). Napoleonic plastics are "revolutionary"... I see what you did there!!!!!
Have you looked at Warflags? In his Colonial Wars section there are flags for Arab Tribes and Mahdists that might serve, especially for your fellaheen. They're free to print and can be sized as you want (though he says they're sized for 28mm). And they're free! I've played in several of his Colonial games and the flags look spectacular on the table. And they're free.
You can also check out Napflags as a source for free flags. I've used a lot of them scaled down for my 15mm armies (French, Prussian, Austrian, Russian, Italian and Duchy of Warsaw) as well as throwing them into the odd Fantasy army.
Just binged some of your start collectings bc I have been having a fixation with napoleonics lately, and I love the ottomans (and many others). Thinking about plastic alternatives, I've thought, what about using the plastic American Civil War Zouaves as Janissaries? The overall outfit seems pretty fitting for the napoleonic period for what I've seen in some pictures. The regular fezzes look more victorian-like, but they also have fezzes with turbans, which look like more ditting for the time period. What do you think?
Great video as always. Could you do a video for black powder during the campaign of 1814?
You had different units sipahi heavy cavalry janissaries elite infantry but famous bork hat was out of use in 19 century akinji and azabs tufekei bashi bazouks irregulars delli or the crazy man nizams etc etc
Cheers for another great video. I play in 20mm, so it does not really apply to me. but I still enjoying listening to how you would build an army. The newline designs Ottomans are nice, if there are any 20mm players out there.
Also Zvezda do some really nice Ottomans
@4:33 Okay I was gonna sell my left kidney to start collecting models but I need to know what's with those dude's hats and where I can get one, giant-ship ornament included? Oh and what is up with that stuff?
Haha. I was thinking I might buy a 1:2400 ship and glue it to a guys head 🤣
I guess these comments have been made elsewhere, but have you considered updating the video in the light of Perry's Ottomans? AND what about the Persians? From my research there are very few manufacturers, but an interesting army, nevertheless?
Had a question while watching this (also, yes please for a part 2). Do you have a video for games at different scales? What I mean by that is some games that do the small, skirmish-style engagements between a dozen or two men, what I would call a "medium" sized game, which generally involves the ballpark of fifty to a hundred models or so (something in the scope of 40k), and then there's the large scale games, the ones that seem most common for Napoleonic and similar periods of warfare, where the headcount really does get up there to try reflecting the massive engagements at battles like Pavia, Breitenfeld, Vienna, Austerlitz, etc.
Hi, will you do a video on collecting a French army for the early stages of Napoleons empire or for the Campaign in Spain?
I did a Peninsular War British one, and I will do a French one, probably in a few weeks after Ottomanober and before Christmas!
@@NapoleonicWargaming awesome, have got a huge pile of French and I am not sure how to put them into a useable force. If you want can I post the Link to the unboxing of the stuff.
@@tabletopgeneralsde310 please do!
@@NapoleonicWargaming here is one box of stuff ruclips.net/video/qSLIt42kCzA/видео.html and here is the second one ruclips.net/video/AGJGL3JpxMY/видео.html very kind if you take the time and give me some advice
Love the video and am just starting an ottoman army for my entry into historical. Out of interest which rules etc do you use to play?
I use Black Powder. Of you look at other videos on the channel there's one on a list of made and a battle teport too!
What book are the rules for the Ottoman Empire in?
I’d only dip into Napoleonics via Sharp Practice for smaller army size. No rules for Ottomans there.
