I've gotten so many requests to build Erza Scarlet from the anime Fairy Tail, that it really became hard to avoid. I would love to build more characters from the Fairy Tail guild, and this was definitely a fun character creation to make.

Bladesinger / Armourer Artificer was what I was expecting. Animate objects to get 10 animated swords swirling, fly spell, all the fun of blade dancing
The only neg to this idea is that Bladesinging doesnt work if you wear medium armor or more, or hold your weapon with two hands. Something she tends to do a lot. The armor can probably be got around with spells like Tensers Transformation or Tashas Otherworldly Guise as flavor for wearing heavier gear, but not really for the weapon unless you just choose nothing but one handed weapons lol
Food for thought. Mask of Many Faces via Eldritch Adept feat would allow you to cast Disguise Self “at will” and give you the “Requip” appearance of removing, reapplying, or reflavoring your armor without the actual need to Doff/Don armor, alter your AC, or break concentration on a spell.

What about Armorer Artificer? That would allow you to get in and out of armor easily.

In my game, paladins at level 3 can don and doff their armour since it's sacred and stored in a relic. Takes an extra action to do either, but it's a fun mechanic on something that it's usually a hassle (plus it helps on stealth incursions and spy missions, haha).
I really like that idea, heading in small flavor things like that are just so cool
@@dndbuildsIndeed! Plus, it envelops the character akin to what you see in Saint Seiya or... well, Fairy Tail, as it were. Makes it so they feel like the Sacred Knights (or Sailor Scouts) they're supposed to be, hehe. :v

Ooooh, i've been looking forward to this one, she's one of my favorite characters.
Wasn't expecting Psi Warrior tbh, aside from extra attack and fighting style which you can get elsewhere i'm not sure it brings that much to the table, especially with the dumped int. The Forge Cleric stuff was pretty fitting though and still a good video. i was thinking more Armorer Artificer with maybe some pact of the blade warlock for summoning your weapon instantly, and i figure some of the infusions/invocations can help with the flying part or other abilites, or Genie Warlock subclass 6th level feature, or if going that far in Warlock just fly spell as well. Though i made another character recently who was mostly Genie Warlock so maybe i just have that on the brain.
I have to say that this comes off a bit more complex than I would have made her. I’d have chosen the Dual Wield feat for being a Variant Human, then taken 1 level of Fighter for the proficiencies and the two weapon fighting style. After that multiclass to forge cleric for one level and hit Artificer for three to nab the Armorer subclass since that makes your armor magical Ana’s can switch between an offensive or defensive version that still provide extra benefits. After that, I would focus on the Cleric for some of the other abilities and spells while ignoring the flying as zeros only ever could fly with specific armor sets and not all of them.
100% Agree. Also, Arcane Weapon and Absorb Elements can be flavoured as switching between different weapons and armors for different damage types (Flame/Lightning/ Sea Empress Armor), Disguise Self can be flavoured as those non-combat instances where she's switching between clothing styles (and Seduction Armor lol) and Jump+Expedititius Retreat+Longstrider is basically the Cheetah Armor. And that's just level 1 spells.
You can also mechanically always carry a shield and two versatile weapons to use your Action to switch between shield and one-handed (min +2 AC with lower damage), two-handed (higher damage), or dual wielding with Dual Wielder feat (more hits)
Thanks for building this character. i did an Erza Scarlet build weeks ago & was looking online to check what others have built for same character so i can compare my d&d ideas with someone who is more knowledgeable.
I did a twilight cleric 6/ necromancer wizard 14 build. Using clerics spiritual weapon, armour proficiencies for melee combat.
And wizard's concentration buff spells like haste, tenser's transformation etc for requipping into various Armour sets.
Plus cartomancer feat so you can still access some of your higher level spells like wish, shapechange etc.
Also Wizards can find spell scrolls and copy it into their spell book which could be reflavoured as Erza finding various armour sets on her journey and adding them into her collection.
Another way i can see pulling this off is with the College of Creation Bard and animate objects to animate all the weapons
I did consider that one but then I would have to rely a lot on charisma, and that would just start bringing in too many abilities scores, but I do generally like the concept
True, but high charisma is pretty on brand. When Erza was first introduced, she immediately had a commanding presence, and no one wished to cross her out of fear for her wrath
@@TigerW0lfNot only that, but when she used Heaven's Wheel for the first time, all the guys that tried fighting her were charmed by her transformation sequence into her armor.

I think if the Dm allow this it can be awesome, just imagine a bandit if about to kill you and you just get into a full plate armour and he cant hit you anymore
How about a build base of the Avatar, from the last Airbender and legend of korra?
Wow I got named checked on sword burst. There are ways to still add sword burst that weren't mentioned in the build. You can get a cantrip spellwrought tattoo. Cantrip and 1st level spellwrought tattoos do not require attunement slots.
Here's an old character that I've loved since I was in high school. Caim from Drakengaard. I've been trying to figure out how to make him in DND for awhile. He's a scary swordsman with some limited magic. He gives up his ability to speak to make a pact with a dragon. He can call the dragon in combat, and she speaks for him in dialogue.
I remember suggesting for this awhile ago.

I personally would do a warlock with pact of the blade and armor themed spells. Good example is the armor of shadows eldritch invocation, casting mage armor for free is too accurate. I would also multiclass into war magic wizard so that you can focus on defensive spells while still being tactical. Abjuration wizard was also tempting but war wizard just fit more. The reason I would focus so much on defense is because in the show it's mentioned that Ezra's ability to summon armor is what makes her unique from any other requip wizard. Just felt right.
The biggest issue I had with Erza is Armor Class.
It's just too simple of an equation, it's an after-thought mechanic. You make a character and then at the end of making your character, there is an objectively best armor-group. The same character won't use unarmored defence, light, medium, and heavy armors, and Mage Armor.
At that point, it's all about switching out magical armor effects. My guess before watching this video is that you flavor different Concentration spells as her "Armor"
I was wrong in my assumptions, the Misty Step idea is a genuinely good one. Misty Step out of 1 Armor and into another set of armor as a single action. It's a nice gimmick.
Would like to see a highlander, there can be only one.
Not having seen Fairy Tail yet, this seems pretty solid all in all. Was kind of initially thinking you were going to go Armorer Artificer because I know they do a lot with magic armor.
I'd love to see a Cocytus build please.
A bit of a big idea, one that I am enjoying at the moment:
Building Final fantasy 15 characters.
Clive: fallen son of noble on his oath of vengeance and ends up fighting his fate against an evil god, whilst having the ability to transform his elemental power (based on his conquest). To me it's a clear paladin multiclass
Josh Clive's brother: fire magic, healing, embodies the phoenix, prepared to fight but avoids if necessary.
To me this is easily a sorcerer maybe with a sprinkle of something else
Jill the love interest: Ice user, comes from a religious background. In the lore Torgal (Clive's pet doggo said to be a frost hound) was inseparable. I feel like an animal companion with a rapier wielding ice magic user screams ranger multiclass wizard?
Cid: scoundrel, lightning user. I could see tempest cleric rogue vibes here...
All in all a good cast of characters and fun build inspiration in all of them
Great build. I did something similar a while back that was a Bladesinger Wizard / Armorer Artificer build. For the species I went amethyst Dragonborn. I wasn't trying to replicate Erza exactly, but more so trying to base a character off of her concept with my own tweaks.
As a character request, I would like to see Ban from Seven Deadly Sins.

I totally was expecting an armorer / fighter multiclass build, but this build is way more fitting for Erza!
Could you try a "Seto Kaiba" build? With "The Book of Many Things" came the "cartomancer" feat. It would totally be cosmetic but using "summon dragonic spirit" as a Bonus Action by using a card sounds pretty epic to me 😁 this way you could summon your "blue eyes white dragon" any time pretty quick which is almost Kaibas playstyle.
You could go Armorer and don and doff armor as an Action

How about the character Razeluxe Meitzen, from Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy. I don’t know particularly much about him but he looks like he’ll pose a challenge to build.

An Armorer Artfice mixed with the The Psi Warrior would have been a far better take on her I think...
That would have made the don and doff armor part way easier, but I really wanted to make sure to get spiritual weapon, spirit guardians, and blade barrier which are hard to get outside of cleric
yes but your build actually undermines the character of Erza is actually a tactical genius as in she tends to come up with the appropriate strategy versus brute strength forcing her way through an altercation. Yes she stong but she also knowledgeable as well as highly intelligent. Plus the damage output you gave by building her this way also doesn't seem right to me. She a tank who's also a heavy hitter. So I still stand that a build done the way I'm advocating for would have actually made for a much more effective character who fits the role she plays in The Fairy Tail Guild. @@dndbuilds

Erza's mother is a dragon, so you could argue dragonborn reskined for her race
I was going based off the wiki for the race, because I wasn't entirely sure, so I guess that was wrong, that would have saved me a lot of headache for figuring out the flying portion lol
@@dndbuilds Erza's mother, Irene, was a Human mage who was transformed into a Sage Dragon by her Dragon Slayer Magic while she was pregnant with Erza and then Erza spent 400 years in a kind of stasis within her mother's womb to protect her from Irene's dragonification. When Irene regained a facsimile of her human form with the help of Zeref (the resident Dark Lord) she was able to have Erza safely. The only things you could argue Erza got from her dragonized mother are her potential, her insane endurance and her good looks.
