    Honesty and integrity are two hard things to find in transmission shops. I think Chester County and Andy have those covered.

    I purchased my first diesel new, 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 with auto trans. No Mods, I towed a horse trailer all over the NC, VA & TN mountains for a few years along with towing trailers for work and a bass boat. In 2005 I traded it with 251K miles, never had any problems. I then purchased a 2005 Dodge 3500 4x4 dually, upgraded horse trailer to full living quarters towing 2 horses in a 40'x8'x8' trailer weighing 13,500 lbs. No mod's and no problems, just traded it at 207k miles. Both trucks were running perfect and pull like a champ when I traded. Of the thousands of miles towing those trailers with both trucks, only used tow haul pulling very steep grades. Both trucks got transmission flush and filter change, transfer case, rear diff, front diff change every 30k miles. Mechanical told me it was a waste of money but all of that hard pulling and no drivetrain problems with either truck! I just purchased a 2018 Ram 3500 dually Limited, 4x4, HO 6.7 with Aisin trans. It will get no mods. Those trucks don't need mods, they run strong and will pull anything hooked to the hitch.

      Absolutely... leave ‘em the heck alone! I’m the original owner of a 2000’ 24v quad cab that still feels as good as the day I bought it. When I die they’ll bury me in it. When my body decomposes my daughter will dig it up, fuel it, and pass it on to her kids.

    Thank you for posting! Not many will show the cost associated with their mods. This is or can be an expensive hobby and if its your daily driver you need to know what to expect. I just discovered an oil leak in my Cummins. It has been tuned so I'm going to find out soon if the tuner affected my warranty. I'm prepared if I get denied a claim but we'll see. If I gotta pull the trans I might look into going ahead with supporting mods. Anyways, respect and stay safe.

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 лет назад +3

      I can't even count the times I've heard 4th gen owners think they have a leaking rear main just to find out that it's assembly lube that is on every one of these trucks. The amount of times of actual leaking rear mains? Maybe one.
      Might want to check it out before taking it to the dealer. Assembly lube is a golden color where oil (from a diesel) will be pitch black. Clean it off with some brake cleaner and see if it comes back. If it does, then you have a leak and should take it in.
      If you're already tuned, you are a potential cash cow for the dealership with 100% of the liability resting on your shoulders. If they mess something up, they can always blame tuning. You think you have a leaking main seal? Well, better pull the trans just to make sure... oh, btw this isn't covered under warranty because you're tuned. Oh, it's not a leaky seal and just assembly lube? Well, better replace the seal just to be safe... oh, btw this isn't covered under warranty because you're tuned. You see where this is going...
      Fwiw, my truck had this same "issue". It was assembly lube and I wager it's the case for you all as well.

    Hellcat X 2 muscle car guy here & new to the diesel universe. Just got a 2018 Tradesman Cummins Ram w/G56 manual, so I'm learning. 🤔 Anyway although the Aisin equipped trucks seem to be the "gold standard", I like how every inch of the 68RFE has been worked out and solved. I won't shy away from a 68RFE truck if I ever need to make the decision. I'd just factor in the upgrade. Thx! Nice video & info! 👌

Only mods are K&N drop in filters & wider rear wheels & tires. TrackHawks are coming down in price too. Very broad bandwidth to that platform! My original intent was to get a TrackHawk for the 4 season versatility, but all of a sudden after following diesel stuff on RUclips & research, I traded my daily 2005 F150 (good truck & took care of it) for a clearance 2018 3500 crew cab silver 6' bed tradesman G56. I just about daily it. I'm looking into a South Bend clutch & would like to tune it to the stock power level of the 2018 68RFE trucks, retaining all the stock emissions stuff etc... It's already way more than I need. Lol! 😄

      Welcome to the diesel brotherhood buddy and you started in the right place. Although all 3 will forever participate in the horsepower/torque war, the straight-6 Cummins is the gold standard in durability for which all others are measured. It will never tire, if it gets fuel it will always fire. I’m an original owner of a 2000’ Cummins quad cab and it still feels as good as the day I bought it. Even the trans has held up without incident! And if you’ve not heard, once you get diesel in your veins...😄
      I’m envious of your 1-ton commercial man-trans and have been drooling over them for a year now.
      I’ll say this to whoever will listen; the day someone creates a drop-in Eaton-Fuller swap (with on board air hi/lo) for these beasts, people will be beating their doors down for torquey Cummins ‘n 9-speed big rig shifting!
      PS: take care of that high pressure injector pump with good lift pump and consistent fuel filter changes (perhaps upgrade to the FASS air/water separator) ‘cause if you damage it... oh Nelly, damn is it expensive!. I know first-hand😭

    Ram Beast Project
    Thanks for this video and the rest You post. Good job !!!
    Can You ask this question to the guys You know at that transmission shop. I always wondered this but never understood, maybe they can clarify my question ?
    Why is it that BD Diesel’s 68RFE transmissions requires a line pressure reading off the old transmission, before installing the new BD 68RFE Trans.
    BD says that their new transmission requires the TCM to be reprogrammed with the line pressures of the old stock transmission or it will burn up that BD transmission before you make it a full mile down the road.
    I don’t understand that, correct me if I am wrong but ATS’ Transmissions doesn’t require all that line pressure checking of old transmission and reprogramming it into the same TCM that’s being reused with their new transmission ?
    I know that the TCM needs to go through the relearn of the new transmission along with connecting the co-pilot that ATS provides with some of their top end transmission packages.
    Here is the link to the BD Diesel’s 68RFE transmission swap, that I herd this from.
    ruclips.net/video/PdTHNtSRfSo/видео.html

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 лет назад +1

      In the video you posted, at around the one minute mark, Johnny Kittson explains that BD requires a scan of the PCM before the old trans is removed and after the new one is installed (and quick learned) so CVI (and other data) can be logged and compared. BD uses this information to verify that the trans was installed properly. I imagine that this is for warranty purposes, at a minimum. ATS does not require this. The reasons are only known to them, I suppose. However, the norm is to at least measure commanded & actual line pressure (LP) after the new trans is in. Reason being is that a built trans can achieve over 250psi LP, where as the stock unit can only get around 170-180 max.
      As far as trans tuning (reprogramming) yes, you generally need this for any built 68RFE (there are a few exceptions). ATS doesn't need this because the "Co-Pilot" acts as an interface that essentially fools the PCM into behaving as if it were tuned (higher shift points, higher line pressure, etc.) but thinking it's delivering stock values. Conversely, tuning simply adjusts the values in the PCM so it can command 250psi LP and achieve 250psi LP. Personally, I'd rather pay $200 for trans tuning than $1300 for the ATS unit.
      Also worth noting, RevMax has just released a 68RFE that does not need any tuning which drastically outperforms custom trans tunes. My RevMax 700 68rfe will be going in for an upgrade very soon.
      Hope this helps.

      Monster RAM
      Yes it helped Thank You.
      After I made that book of a comment, I researched it little further and understood what I was asking about.
      I am just getting some knowledge together on what I will need, and what I will need to do, for when I swap out my 68RFE from my 2012 Cummins.
      By trade, for past 14 - 15 years, I work on tractor and trailers.
      But pulling a trans, clutch, and flywheel out of a Peterbuilt is one thing (basically swapping parts)
      but with this 68RFE I have to become an IT tech.
      I should have ordered a Manual transmission when I bought my Cummins back in 2012.

    • @shawn8363
      @shawn8363 6 лет назад +1

      Monster RAM
      One more thing, I don’t know if You know about the ATS transmission brace they offer, but You should get one after all that work You had done.
      Apparently the 68RFE tends to crack along the top of the case because of the case being so thin.
      The added torque coming through the transmission from tuners, Injectors, turbos, ect... will crack a built 68RFE without the ATS brace.

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 лет назад +1

      Shawn Eid - I have the ATS brace on my RevMax 700 68RFE. I see it as cheap insurance and would recommend it, but there are plenty of built 68RFEs without them that haven't cracked a case so it's up to you. Is your trans now having issues, or are you just wanting to upgrade? If you're going to build/rebuild it, I'd have a power goal in mind and go from there. With my truck, 700 - 750whp was the goal so I went with an appropriate trans. If you are at stock levels, I'd probably get a Suncoast rebuild kit and a few hard parts that money would allow and you'd be fine. As far as who is going to do the work, I'd have it done at a shop or get a fully built unit. You'd probably be fine removing/installing the trans yourself though.

    I wonder if Andy has dealt with the “chirp” between shifting 3 to 4 in these 68rfe transmissions. My 14 mega cab has it some under moderate acceleration

      My truck still does it from time to time. I heard that RevMax has solved that issue.

    Don’t modify anything with a 68rfe in your truck. No tuning - no big tires - no nothing them with good maintenance the transmission should last

      That’s what happens when you add 150HP+ to some a trans that wasn’t designed to hold it. We made it better.

    The last place I want touching my truck is a freekn stealer, I mean dealer. They are incompetent.
