I decided to try medium braids for all of 2024 when I saw your video about it at the beginning of the year. Here I am in November still wearing braids! (Once I got my parts down I *really* didn't want to have to redo them.) I haven't been tracking my length retention or drinking teas etc, but I do think the style is helping. Whatever the end of year results, this has def stopped my "hands in hair" syndrome and I love the simplicity its given to my routine. So thank you for the idea!
@sharatiabanks. Its so relaxing to watch you do your hair on a Sunday afternoon. I see your growth and thickness of your hair. One day i will get to my braid plaits. My hair is your length....but i want "true" waist length hair even while showing shrinkage. I want to then blow it out "farrah faucett" style flip it and fade em all.
@@SharatiaBanksthat's why I will keep on doing my own hair and will not have my hair done by a lot of careless hairstylists who only focus on making you hair "even" by cutting all the time, without thinking about the care and patience you had while growing them
Gurllll!!! Thank you so much for that tip on how to braid and keep them flat. I just tried it, and wow-my braids used to be all over the place! Leaving the middle pieces under is *chef's kiss 🥹❤
Girl, your hair is positively flourishing!!! You've officially inspired me to try mini braids! I've been doing mini twists for the past two months (also on a journey to grow my hair from mid back/waist to tailbone length) and I love them, but I've always felt like braids cause less breakage, and are just overall more managable. I'm gonna give it a go for the remainder of this year and all of next year! No lie, I'll probably switch it up and go back to twists every now and then, but I think the braids are where it's at for length retention!
Parting is e v e r y t h i n g - and I feel always the most time-consuming when braiding, twisting, and installing microlocs or sisterlocs, etc. And I really love the way you did your parting and how/why you explained it. And the fact that these will be in for the next 3mo is a plus! I also have fine hair, and it compacts so well - sometimes a little too well 😂 (fine hair loose or blown out looks voluminous like cotton candy, but whenever i braid it, its like - is my hair on vacation? ❤)
You definitely inspired me at the beginning of this year to jump back on the mini braid train, but instead of me doing them, I found a hairstylist that can do the entire process (wash, blow dry, trim, and braid it up) for $105 ✨🔥🥰 I can’t get carpal tunnel anymore! The take down process is already ENOUGH!😂 And I wanna stretch my visits to once a quarter (every three months)🔥Your hair is so long and healthy! Keep being an inspiration! Tryna to get my hair to my butt crack too 😂😂😂
I only done plaits once and it did make a difference in my hair, it doesnt tangle much as it does if I do twists. I love my twists, but I might go back to doing plaits again and keep at it for the next 6 months. My hair has grown so much within the past 1 year. Hoping I can get my hair to midback length in its natural state.
I found your videos some time ago and it led me to put mini braids in my own hair (I had around 88-will not be doing that many again lol) but i grew my hair go waist and I loved watching your videos to keep me going. I straightened my hair recently to give my hair some “out” time but I love to see you going back to the braids 💕 they definitely help with retention and I can’t wait to do my own again
@ it reached a little past bra in braids (for me braids “eat” my length) but when I straighten recently it’s a waist and inching toward tailbone. I can’t wait to put them back in lol
@kianamoore5390 oh my! Length goals! Shrinkage is so wrong lol I can just fit mine in a pony below the middle of my head and it take me a few hours lol
I hope you’ll show us the washing and re-braid process! I always take my braids down, wash, deep condition and then re-braid. I’ve never washed my braids before and I’m intrigued. This turned out beautiful!
I hope you'd love it as much as I did. I did make my braids smaller for better access to my scalp but washing & conditioning was so effortless. New years eve I'm doing them again 😊 my length retention was insane.
I think your hair looks stunning, the braids looked stunning. If your braids look that size you've got a lot of hair. I washed my hair in braids but I don't really like as I found it hard to dry them thoroughly, how do you dry your braids when you've washed them?
@Arielle_C93 yesssss. I use to wash my hair in twists, but they would unravel too easily or get tangled. With braids...I use way less product PLUS my hair stays stretched and tangle free. I love it so much 🎉
@LivingInTheShade i personally wrap my hair in either a t-shirt or microfiber towel & gently squeeze. I use a spray leave in with braids. I love creamy leave-ins when my hair is loose but it would take way too long to dry in braids. I put flaxseed gel on my ends then blow dry on warm. Super easy.
very pretty ❤i started doing mini braids and i feel like my hair is growing mainly because im leaving it alone lol i do the scalp oil massages and apply leave in conditioners too i even shampoo it with braids
Glad your feeling better!🖤 I never knew why my plaits would go up lol Amazing lesson/teacher. Ive been doing these for a few months but i do mine wet right after deep conditioning. I also have fine low to medium density though. My hair is growing more and i can get to my scalp easily. My go to before was two braids lol
Thank you so much for this video. I also was wondering after watching the last one how you did your parts. Not the procedure, but the design. Video done at the right time.
I just did medium braids like yours to my hair yesterday ( prior I did mini twist and mini braids I found out they are not for me they take too long to install and remove) Keeping my medium braids on until January 8. I am getting a trim in January. The front of my hair are shorter than the rest of my hair due to tension hairstyles. On the journey of growing out my hair. Did the big chop July 8, 2023. I tried to put them on a low bun, a ponytail. I am looking like I got electrocuted my hair is sticking everyone 😂😂.
Thanks so much for sharing. I had such a bad wash day and I hope I can recover. I'm yet to find a good shampoo and conditioner that doesn't leave my hair tangled afterwards, which is what I had to deal with ...lots of tangles !! So frustrating! Anyways how did you stretch your hair? This is the one thing I haven't done, and yes I will also try smaller braids 😊
I want to start this journey of mini plaits too! Can't wait to see how much length I retain. Do you have any tips on growing the thickness of your hair? I have fine hair like you so my plaits are going to look boneless - I wonder what I can do to make them look more full.
@@jessicat233 my plaits look boneless for sure so I wonder if maybe if it’s done wet would it make a difference . Cause once it dries it’ll kinda shrink and get a little plump. Or plait it loosely
my only questions are, how many plaits did you have in this video, and how many years did it take to reach this length you have now? also, what shampoo, and leave in and oils do you apply to your hair? thanks
Hello Dear, here watching and supporting, my fellow content creator, thanks for posting this content, here to encourage you to keep going, keep pushing forward, thumbs up and blessing to you

They look great! Any tips for someone with fine hair (at about 1/5 your length) doing mini braids? I will be doing them again and know it’s best for my hair BUT I look like a 40yr old 4 year old when I wear them since I don’t have length. (P.s. I’m 37 but 40 worked better for the sentence 😅lol)
@@Theexperimentersstudio the only tip I have is to do them 😬😬 I think they look good short, medium, or long. And the fact that we have textures and length makes them look different on everyone.. you can also try flat twists, but I think you should still do the plaits 🤷🏾♀️
@SharatiaBanks thank you for responding. I am trying to lessen the times I detangle in a year from 52 to at the most 12... this will lessen the handling of my hair and thus lessen breakage....
You may need to find out what ingredient that helps to strengthen your hair strands. I say this because my hair was just like that, and it takes years of trial, following various videos on UTube. The aim though was to grow hair beyond the normal range, fortunately, by doing this I realized and have found products that literally, strengthen the stands of my hair. I mean thick strands, harder to brake etc. However, no matter what you use, if you use certain things on hair like flat iron, or if your hair is constantly dry, these can cause the thinning of your hair.
My question is how do you think your mini braid journey would look like if you were not working from home. I work in person and with my hair being in mini braids paired with lower density and very high shrinkage theres many days where i don't feel the best appearance wise
