Completely wrong information.. 1. DC is never used for charging phones in train. These are all AC. Phone charger will never work on DC. 2. Overhead power is also used for the light, fan and ac. In modern locomotive e.g., WAP5 or WAP7 has EOG. Which converts overhead power to the low voltage to run train light, fan, ac which are commonly called the hotel load.
Now Indian Railways using HOG ( Head on generation) where power to AC as well non AC coaches are provided through Locomotives and power vans are not required in such trains
