- It's time to rank EVERY final boss from the Mario series. With 33 unique entries, we will be covering the core more franchise with additions from Yoshi and Luigi's Mansion on the list. As for the Mario RPG's and spinoffs such as Mario Kart and Mario Party, those will have their own separate lists at a later date. I also excluded Wario games and DK games (outside of the original DK) as they have enough games to have their own respected lists.

My favorite final boss is bowser. But I would understand if some people’s favorite boss was bowser. But I have no idea how someone could like bowser.

I was so disappointed by galaxy’s final boss. Sure the setting was epic, but you beat bowser in like 2 minutes and all he does is just jump on the little planets. I remember beating him and audibly saying “that’s it?”. But I respect that he’s many peoples’ favorite tho.
Yeah it's neat scenery but the fight itself just ends so fast and easy. Mario 64 bowser is best

Yea, the galaxy 2 final boss was a bit underwhelming. The music and atmosphere were amazing, but the gameplay felt a little lacking in difficulty and variety. It's almost the same as every Bowser fight in the game before it.
I like SMG2's twist where Bowser gets back up but despite him getting a power up he is way too easier to defeat.

I feel like Wario & Tatanga deserve more credit as boss fights just due to the fact that we don't fight Bowser or just Bowser but big for the millionth time lol. But despite how annoying it is with him, he has some solid fights at times. Him using Power-Ups against you in the 3D World fight is still one of my favorite Mario moments overall.

It's probably like stomach acid where there's immunity to it in our stomach but not outside of it. That's probably how that works with bowsers flames
Surprised music wasn't a factor in this list, especially SMG2, would have raised that boss up a few pegs.

Bowser is my absolute favorite character and boss! My favorite one was the Odyssey fights just bc of the mechanics and you’re not just fighting him on a 2D platform! But I love Bowser so much and hate to have to fight him.😔 And just love his wedding outfit!🤩
That fight WAS really really cool. Even if it's a bit easy. But then again, same can be said for the Mario Galaxy variant.

I totally agree with #1! The final Bowser fight for Mario Galaxy 1 is my favorite ever! Mario Galaxy is my all-time favorite game, and the final boss is the main huge reason! Everything about this final battle is amazing, and Mario giving Bowser the final blow and sending him into the vastness of space is a great way to end his evil plan to take over the universe! It gets no better than this!

Yoshi's Island final boss is the GOAT. Nintendo has tried to rebottle that lightning in Yoshi games, 2D Mario games, and 3D Mario games. The music, the fact the fight takes place over a great distance so the sense of scale is more drastic, and the degree of challenge are just perfect!

I'd rather fight the mario bros 1 bowser 1000 times before the sunshine bowser even crossed my mind. Sunshine is one of the most infuriating slogs mario has ever seen and they end it like that? Fitting

Personal Nitpicks:
Mario Galaxy's final boss is good, but I wouldn't say it's the best. It's just the same fight you've done before with Bowser. Mario 64 had this type of final boss too, but Mario 64 changed up enough gameplay elements in its final battle for it to feel somewhat refreshing, whereas Mario Galaxy is just 3 of the same fights you've done before. This is just a personal thing, but I prefer faster-paced final boss music, a final boss is meant to be a tense 'do-or-die' moment to me, and it kinda kills it when the music doesn't reflect that.
Why is Dark Moon's final boss so high up on the list? Sure, in terms of looks it's pretty good, but this is such a simple fight, all it boils down to is find the shadow, lure King Boo under the shadow, do a chase scene, repeat. In my opinion the other 2 Luigi's Mansion games have better final bosses.
In my opinion, I'd probably rank 3D Land at #1, no, it's not that grand, but it nails what it wants to be perfectly and keeps things unique. I really think that 3D Land did the Bowser chase scene better than 3D World, personally I can feel more emotion being expressed in 3D Land's final boss. It's just the way Bowser starts as normal and throws everything he can at you to stop you in your tracks, the way how halfway up the tower his flames become purple and faster, the way he makes a mad dash for you at the end in one final attempt to keep you from reaching the button. Phase one of Meowser in 3D World just became predictable after maybe 3 times playing it and honestly made it pretty boring. Phase two picked up the pace, but in phase two I feel like I'm trying to escape Meowser, I'm not. Really the only part that I liked was at the end when all the Meowsers start climbing and crowding up the tower, THAT made me feel like I was being chased, and of course the music was really good as well. I sometimes replay 3D World's final boss just to hear the Phase two Meowser theme (Phase one's music is good as well, I just think Mario Maker 2 desensitized it for me).

I agree with your list mostly, but the Mario 64 Bowser fight is just crappy in my opinion. I just depend on luck to swing bowser in the bombs because of how fast he swings, too fast for my eyes to comprehend. I get that you can make the fight easier by slowly but surely keep swinging him closer and closer to the bombs but the final phase you have to depend on a big shot due to the arena getting thinner. And Bowser’s tail hit box is stupid, 40% of the time I usually take damage unless I get it really precise.

Personally I would have ranked Super Mario Wii U and Luigi's Mansion 3 bosses higher and I would have ranked Yoshi's New Island and Yoshi's crafted World bosses lower but that's just my personal opinion

The original Yoshi's Island is in a bit of a gray area. Miyamoto gave an interview around 2015 saying he considered it part of the core franchise. Depending on the region/release, it's gone by the subtitle "Super Mario," "Super Mario World 2," or "Super Mario Advance 3," all of which indicate main series status. It shares its dev team with Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, and is definitely the "connective tissue" between those two games in many respects (the designs of enemies like Chomps and Piranha Plants, the introduction of red coins, the use of the ground pound and stumps, the increased focus on collecting...even the invincibility theme is like a prototype of the Wing/Vanish Cap version). I kind of see it as a crossroads, simultaneously part of the Mario series while also the origin point of the Yoshi series. But it's certainly up for interpretation.
