When I first moved to LA I played in a local band called "The Woodpeckers" we played an opening time slot at the Palamino. What I remember was an audience that was quiet when the music started. They came there to listen, not to talk. So we start the set and I look across the room and see Eddy Van Halen and his brother sitting at a table and drinking Bud long necks. The band played one of its best shows that night! I got a chance to meet Eddie back stage. Sweet memories of that ole place.
My first performance as a singer, was at the Palomino in 1981! It was talent night, I think I sang a Patsy Cline song. I met another original band that night who performed, and ended up joining my first band. Great memories! TFS! Lil hugs xo
As a teenager , I was fortunate enough to see Elvis Costello & The Attractions at The Palomino. A perplexed crowd , had a mixed reaction. The Parking lot was dicey !
Billy Thomas passed away first, I never met him. I knew Tommy who passed in 1985. Tommy was a wonderful man, I knew him well enough that I was at his home in Van Nuys. I was a regular at The Pal 81'-84', I saw Jerry Lee Lewis, Tanya Tucker and Rick Nelson to name a few. Tommy told me that Johnny Cash slept on the case's of beer when he first started out. Tiny the bouncer was a gentle giant until a problem came up, but in my time there, I never saw a fight. Thanks Jordan for explaining The Palomino to everyone. They also filmed part of an episode of T. J. Hooker with Jerry Lee Lewis at The Pal around 1982.
I would of LOVED to see Pasty Cline perform at the Palomino! I would have been FRONT ROW! WOW! That place had a history, a lot of great history! But, I'm glad to hear that the signs of the club are in a museum! Love the old footage! Keep up the great job, Jordan!
Another great walk down memory lane. When I lived in the Valley I used to hang out at the Pal. Was sad I didn’t get back to it in it’s last few days, I moved to Las Vegas just as it was closing in ‘95. Always thought it would go on forever.....guess nothing ever does though except maybe on your channel! Appreciate you preserving these stories! 😎
Great vlog -- your stuff just gets better and better. I was fortunate enough to see The Ventures there twice back around 1980. In those days, they had picnic tables set up for dining and you shared a long table with other guests. The Ventures actually had their families there on one occasion either to do a kickoff for a tour or an end to one. And their steaks were enormous and good. Miss that place -- smelled like cigarettes and beer -- thanks for bringing back a lot of great memories.
I saw Linda Ronstadt there in the early ‘70’s. She was in a pair of short shorts and a little red sleeveless top. A great night. Also went a couple of more times. Loved that place. Thanks for the terrific stories.
Jordan, you produce the best, most informative and entertaining vlogs on the internet! Your knowledge and inciteful stories are amazing. Please keep them coming! Thank You!
I had heard stories about the Palomino but never really knew the history. Thank you for such an interesting vlog. You never know what you're going to learn
Hi! Jordan and Jah, as always a very big thank you for your fantastic vlogs. Taking us to places and telling the stories to these wonderful places that some of us will never get to see. A very big thank you for taking the time out to make these fabulous vlogs, from the UK!
Never got to go see this, so this was fantastic, to hear all the stories, and the history!! Love it! All venues have mysteries and mystiques and stories and they are all interesting to me! This would make a fantastic movie! All the characters and celebs and just Hollyweirds would make a great one! Ty for vlogging this! That's fantastic about getting that call about Waylon. Cannot wait to hear the stories...Ty for sharing. Great weekend to you!
Two things: The place to hang at the PC if you wanted to talk to the performers was out back behind the building. That was the "backstage". If you were cool and acted like you belonged, you could hang out when the acts were on break. Fantastic conversations there! Also, that night with Dylan et al was a hugely funny thing. Dylan and Harrison were hanging and recording at Dylan's L.A. pad, and George talked Bob in to going to the PC to see Taj do his show. One beer led to another and Taj invited Bob and George up to the stage to do ONE TUNE. When they got up there, they also invited John Fogerty who was also there. At that point, Taj lost his show! It was just a giant jam for the rest of the night!
Jazz and Country. Apropos. Hank Penny was the leader of the Radio Cowboys, a West Coast Western Swing band. Western Swing of course was essentially Jazz played on Country instruments. Penny was a sorta West Coast Bob Wills. Great stuff and well worth searching out. Nice work, Jordan…
Bob Hite of Canned Heat also overdosed on heroin here. He was was an avid coke coke user at the time and a fan offered him a baggie. He took a big snort of it, said "This is bullshit" and then collapsed. RIP Bob..
I think the puppet on that scooter is the Pink Panther? just my guess????? and thanks for the great vlog as usual you nailed it again, so glad to see all these places that was used in great movies that i watched years ago, and tell Jah, i said he is the greatest pup of all times, love it that he dont run around barking at all the other pooches in the park :)
I use to live right up the street. Jordan The FM Station was on Lankershim and victory another famous N. Hollywood spot. Filthy McNasty owned it also the Central on Sunset Blvd. Cheers James.
Hey Jordan, congrats on scoring that interview👏👍😁! I know how much this is going to mean to you personally. Good things come to those who persevere and wait. VERY informative and interesting vlog today. Quite the back story. Wishing you and Jah good health and safety 🙏. See 👀 ya tomorrow.
Awesome Vlog Jordan! My mind is flooded with so many memories of the Palomino Club. My top three memories are of Jerry Lee Lewis, George Thorogood and the Delaware destroyers, and the best Elvis impersonator I ever saw, Dennis Colt.
So glad to hear you are coming back to Phoenix to interview The Owner of. Mr. Lucky's. If you are interested the last known thing filmed in there where you can see the stage was a Keith Urban video called "Who wouldn't Want to be Me" also a great shot of the Iconic sign though you can also Google some images of the Mr. Lucky's sign.
Vlog #158 is the other Palomino vlog in case anyone wanted to re-watch it. Great Vlogs Jordan!!! Hope you get Graceland fixed man! That piece is cooler than cool!
My husband and I saw Rick Nelson there a month or so before Rick died in that plane crash. Good memories of the Palomino. Sad memory of Rick Nelson dying so shortly after.
Great one!! Jordan, this is off subject but there is something for you to watch I think you would enjoy about Elvis. I know your a fan and so am I. There is a video here on utube, a story about him told by Sonny West that will have you rolling in the floor. It’s “ELVIS up close and personal with Sonny West”. The story is at 40:20. Also a story about Elvis and buying a wheelchair that will have you in tears. Hope you get to see this.
What a great vlog, so many great artists played there. Another place that I had no idea existed, thank you so much for sharing this. And thank you so much for sharing all the great stories behind this historical place.
Wow, the Palomino's gone! We went there in the late '70s or early '80s and saw Steppenwolf. I remember it being very crowded. I don't remember seeing any fights so it must have been a good night. 🤪
What a fun vlog this is... I didn't know anything about the palomino until you told me about it a few years ago LOL! Great place with amazing history thanks for sharing!
Great music history must have been a fun place to go but you would need a friend with you as you said my be as a boddgard image seeing all those legends love the dog park Lots of Love Jordan and a kiss for Jah and Hi to all Lionheart's Marie Dublin Ireland

I really enjoy vlogs like this and finding out how a place came to be. Lucky for us you had footage of the inside. It reminded me once again of the importance of your vlogs and the collection your are going to hold. I love the Palomino t-shirt!
That would be the place to go back in the day! So awesome that the stage is still there. Good news about Waylon's Friend. Can't wait to see that vlog!!
The Pal was also featured in the movie "Roadie" starring Meatloaf. They showed Roy Orbison performing there and after he was done with his set, he walked off the stage with a cape on that did this weird flattering thing under his outstretched arms! Pretty weird! 😂
Great video, but no mention of my Merle Haggard? Since you did talk about my other favorite man, Clint Eastwood, I'll let you slide, lol. Thanks so much from Florida! 😊♥🎈♥
I grew up down the street from that place! Used to go with my parents fairly frequently... Damn shame it’s gone.Country music died in the valley years before the place finally closed down.It was no surprise, but sad nonetheless.
Incredibly amazing history in that one building. I bet it would have been fun back then. Oh and I loved that music box when you got it. I'm glad you're getting it fixed.
I couldn’t believe all the history behind that location. I use to go there for events back In the day and my aunt had her wedding reception there when it became a banquet hall. My childhood home was also a couple blocks away🫶🏼
Hey Jordan....I will always love you vlogs!!! And that doesn't surprise me about Johnny Cash.... That sounds just like him lol. Love the man in black.. You go to the coolest places.... So glad that gentleman called about the interview & so looking forward to that sweet man... God bless you & keep on keeping on...
Amazing!!! So many big names played there. Could be a rough place. Very interesting. Thank you, Jordan. Jah sure loves the park. He Mark's his territory. 🤣🤣🤣. Much love to you and Jah ❤❤❤❤
Jordan are still enjoying living in SoCal? In your last live stream you seem like you were tired of living where you were at, love your vlogs especially this and the "License to Drive" vlog! Heather Graham was and is still hot! Keep up the great work!
Great video bro!! I've delivered amazon packages across the street in those apartments from the dog park u were at recognized it right away from those port o potties. Lol
Sorry the Palomino is gone. What a great place that was. Lots of country people played there. I hope you get to interview Waylon's friend. Would be interesting to see what he has to say about Waylon. I hope you get the music boxes fixed. I don't know how you deal with L.A. driving? Nice to see Jah playing with the other doggies. Safe Travels and Take Care.
Wow! Stop! 😧 You are dragging me back to too many memories! Back in the day we'd put on our best Westernware and go to see and be seen! My brother was lead singer with "Duke Davis and Buckshot!" Love you, Lion! You're the best!
Jordan...there was an almost equally popular Bob and Bernie's Branding Iron. The same performers usually played there. Does it still exist. Maybe in San Bernadino.
My dad looked just like Clint Eastwood . When my dad passed away I was only 10 yrs old. A few weeks later my mom and I were at my grandmother's house. There was a news paper on the kitchen table and it had a picture of Clint Eastwood in it . I told my mom , look there's another picture of daddy in the news paper !! My mom said , no honey that's not your daddy . That's Clint Eastwood , a guy that plays in movies . I argued with her about it . I insisted that it was my daddy . LOL !! Thanks for sharing all of these great stories about the Palomino . I was wondering if Elvis Presley played there too . That's cool....!!
i remember this place it was everything jordan said it was. one time i was there and this guy who called himself bad eye brooks wanted to fight. it was a nice place to meet pretty girls.
