here’s what soyeon said about this song:
"I didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition," she says. "So it's open to anything. I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected. That's why I don't want to limit 'she' to something specific."

Soyeon is the sole lyricist for every single one of their title tracks including Lion. So if you are watching any music video from Gidle (that isn’t just a clip show). She’s the one who wrote the song.

Soyeon said in interview that she is not necessarily meaning a woman or a man because she wouldn't limit the sense and the scope of what she said. However she also said in tomboy neither a man nor a woman...so they're not afraid of going there.

To be fair, if the real meaning is the fan theory, it will probably be a few years before we will ever know, as unfortunately Korea needs to make a lot of progress with LGBT rights for an idol to ever openly write a song about them, let alone be one.

Being that Korean is very conservative I think the mud is the societal view of it being something dirty and the black hands and face marking being something to show that she is "tainted" and "shameful". Also the finger gun illustrates that some can't deal with the pressures of the societal "norm".

Soyeon has said she wrote this to say you should follow your heart regardless of what society says. There is so much Christian imagery in this, which makes it so poignant within such a conservative society. The English version they did is very sapphic

you put in words my exactly thoughts about this song!! haha ppl have their own definitions about the lyrics but for me it's extremely lesbian, it talks about sex, about a strong love-obsession-desire and also not the most healthy relationship, but also I like to see it like they can consider the her "dangerous" because according to religion loving someone of your same gender it's a sin, then they see her dangerous because of the things she makes them feel, because it's something "forbidden" and against god and things like that, but maybe my own definitions is messed too with the fact that I grew up as a pansexual in a strong religious family, that always taught me that being gay is wrong

Such a fun song to do a lyrical breakdown for! As you said, I think there's a couple interpretations for this song, but I personally always come back to the gay theory lol. If you haven't already on your own time, I'd love to see another reaction to the English version of this song. I kinda feel like that version is more direct and straight to the point about the songs meaning.

The video is heavily inspired by the myth of Lilith. So yeah, kind of dark. Soyeon also said it was also referencing internal conflict. ie think of the little Devil sitting on your shoulder tempting you, so "her" could refer to themselves in that interpretation. The LGBT aspect is obviously there too, but this song definitely has a several layers of meaning.

Speaking of lgbtqia idols, you should check out Jiae, she is an openly bisexual solo artist who was blacklisted after she came out and recently crowdfunded her first solo album. The tt "love is love" is really good and I think it would be really cool to hear your thoughts on it. 🥰

I don't think it's about a toxic relationship but more that it could and would be dangerous to succumb to the temptation of being with a woman (as a woman) in a conservative country like Korea, like even when 2 idols kiss (as a joke or not we don't know), they would be all over "dispatch", which is a drama centered media/journal, creating a scandal.

I also suggest that you find the English Language version of the song. There are color-coded lyrics for that one. The English wording in that version is different than this translation from Korean, it's even more fruity.

"I also suggest that you find the English Language version of the song. There are color-coded lyrics for that one"
There is no reason for her to watch a low quality color-coded lyrics video for the English version. The English version has an official lyric video that was posted by the Universal Music Japan youtube channel. The English version for "Oh, My God" was officially released in Japan which is why the official lyric video is there.

Thank you for your reaction and deep dive into lyrics
I think it is about both
Trusting oneself against society limitations/rules (trusting oneself skills, oneself heart, oneself believe, against what others want one to be, even if the world is against)
Lesbian anthem - more actual love anthem ;)
She refers to oneself, to she, to he, to them, to it, to what we believe in
