I was lucky enough to see the show twice, as a 9 year old, back in 1972. It left a lasting impression. Hearing this again after all those years is mind blowing. I still remember the words!!! The Australian cast was the best there was, and still hasn't been topped by any contemporary versions. Thanks for posting the album. It's been incredible.
I was at the Melbourne performance, twice, I still have the vinyl album and program .. and still, to this day, Trevor White's moving rendition of this heart-rending portrayal of Jesus' agony stirs my soul. No other artist worldwide, and I've heard them all, can match the power and emotion of his performance .. truly memorable .. amazing talent❤❤
I've heard every version of this song from live to filmed performances .. Ian Gillan in the UK show comes really really close to this amazing passionate emotional performance by our brilliant Aussie Trevor White's rendition of Jesus's final moments of heart-rending pain. I was blessed and privileged to see this performance twice in Melbourne including when it first opened .. I will never forget the effect it had on me and I still have the original program and vinyl album of this classic unforgettable Australian performance. 💜👍💜
I saw Trevor White perform five times in JC superstar at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney. Each time he was phenomenal, the recording can never capture the energy of his performances.
***** I was 19 and just completely blown away each time I went to see it. Stevie Wright was phenomenal, Rory O'Donohue, just a great great cast. We probably attended a couple of the same performances so you can completely relate!!
Regardless of ANY of your opinions of who's voice is 'better' more 'emotional' etc the fact remains that the Australian cast of JCSS will always remain the favorite of ALL cast recordings of JCSS of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice and there are documentations of this fact !! and when the Gods of Theatre speak we WILL listen !! and I absolutely agree my favorite cast recording ever ....... unbelievably amazing emotive & awesome
+Joanna MacLellan and I saw this live when I was only 5 years old and it STILL lives within me today ..........this cast gave my passion for Theater and live performance and I for one am grateful : )

oh dear Ms 'Dawn Wilson' mmmmmm you must be challenged dear ....... seen much live theatre I think not .......... opinion duly noted and disregarded thanks : )
ABBARoxAus.....im not denying the emotional impact, if this piece doesnt move you...yur dead. i listened again, just my opinon, but i think he slowed it down for the right reasons but it really strained his voice from around 5-5:45. but, its all good, actually my second favorite version after ted neelys
the same for me.. my fav is Ted, it always moves me, the sheer emotion.. but Trevor is very very good too, my second fav. In places I even find some things better than Ted, but overall Ted's version just breaks my heart.
I do really really love Ian Gillan and his rendition of this amazingly emotional song .. but, sorry, the pain and the passion Trevor White portrays in this heart-rending version out-does even the brilliant Deep Purple front-man .. and I'm his biggest fan on the planet 😍
Sorry, Trevor fans, not a fan. First, this version is slowed down a bit, which is weird. Secondly, other than his "Why" - the first one, the highest note, he is so syncopated and this scripted. He does some ad lib at the end, but slowed down, it just doesn't have the same effect. What an odd thing to do.
What an odd thing to say. Regardless of how much slower it may seem to you, the Australian version was in fact perfectly timed as per Lloyd-Webber and Rice's intentions. So are you going to try and tell us that you know more about music then the actual geniuses that wrote it??? I hope not. Also... the speed has absolutely nothing to do with Trevor White. He sang it in time with the music.
I was lucky enough to watch this amazing production when i was round about 13years old. LIVE.
It was spectacular, wasn't it ?
Just amazing....no one could touch Trevor.
The best JC ...Ever 👍
I agree 😁
I saw this production in 1973 . With Jon English ,Marcia Hindes and the two guys from ( can't think of the group )
Air Supply 🙂
I've seen just about every recording there is of Gesthemene and I still think this is the BEST 👏👏👏👏

Ian Gillan does come a close 2nd, but just doesn't quite make it😊

Best version ever, wish there was a video...I saw the show a few times back in 72...Trevor White was amazing.

I do agree wholeheartedly
Ian , Trevor , Ted , and John ..were the best all different and dynamic .......
This is the best version of this song in my opinion.
Check out Leo Jiménez version 😁♥️
I agree wholeheartedly
Trevor played the part so well.

Sure am, I have just ordered the album
People may think that the rock opera is not a religious experience I beg to differ.
Wow this aussie cast is excellent. Too bad there is no full score
yeah Ian Gillian has to be the best Studio version EVER of Jesus in this play
Where is the ian gillan version? (Sorry for my english i speak only spanish)
The conductor should have picked up the pace; I think it's too slow too.
Don't agree
According to an interview I read in the mid 70's, Webber and Rice remarked on how perfectly paced the Australian version was.
the voice of Rocky Horror
Peter Donnelly Yes ! Not sure how many people know that :)
ABBARoxAus I just found out! Always wondered; no wonder the sound was familiar!!!
oh dear Ms 'Dawn Wilson' mmmmmm you must be challenged dear ....... seen much live theatre I think not .......... opinion duly noted and disregarded thanks : )
I agree with you wholeheartedly
Play at x1.25 and it might be the best version other than Ted Neelys
sorry, i have to agree with dawn, from the 5 minute mark on, trevor slows it down way too much in my opinion, takeing away the fluidity of the piece.
I think it adds to the emotional impact - always did for me anyway :)

Trevor didn't slow it down.
He is in perfect time with the music.
Nice, but a bit slow. Doesn’t have the same emotion and power of the original UK studio recording with Gillan and the fabulous group of musicians.
I do really really love Ian Gillan and his rendition of this amazingly emotional song .. but, sorry, the pain and the passion Trevor White portrays in this heart-rending version out-does even the brilliant Deep Purple front-man .. and I'm his biggest fan on the planet 😍
That's your opinion
I prefer the authentic version.
Sorry, Trevor fans, not a fan. First, this version is slowed down a bit, which is weird. Secondly, other than his "Why" - the first one, the highest note, he is so syncopated and this scripted.
