Back in the 80's-90's the start/restart did not happen until you could see the flag stand and then it was a drag race up the hill to the hairpin. Starting before turn 11 is one of the worst things I've ever seen at Laguna Seca and for IndyCar.
The whole course is far more challenging than it looks, off camber corners throughout and visibility issues. When there's trouble ahead you're often on top of it by the time you see it.
exactly, i stopped watching live and am watching this vid now to see results. Never have I seen a green flag waved 100ft before a braking zone----sooo dumb.
I don't know if I'd go that far but what a lost opportunity to gain new fans of IndyCar, on a weekend with no F1, at a legendary circuit it's just weird strategy calls, inconsistent penalties, cars flying off into the gravel left and right. For an F1 fan used to super strict rules it was wild to see Herta fully jump the start and get away with it. Why doesn't everyone just go 3 wide at every single race start? And Ericsson pits a guy off the track, punctures the guys tire, spins out himself and sits on the track backwards and they are like "it's all good".
That's a bit over the top. Not much disrespectful driving. But some dumb mistakes and a slippery surface. Who was it that got a penalty for a minor blocking move? That was far more strict than F1 and the penalties applied were consistent.
@JGR4LIFE I was there last year only 1 minor spin in the whole race. Usually they spin in the corkscrew this year it was turn 1 and 2 and 12. And still CGR won :( I was hoping for upset.

I'm blaming Race Control. Most of the yellows were caused by throwing the green flag as the leader hit Turn 11 and everyone trying to jam into that corner at the same time. Fix that problem or tell drivers they can't pass until after Turn 11 and it wasn't that bad of a race.
