You may find that you really like having a second living room for now. When our kids were little we had an eat-in kitchen a formal dining room and a living room in our 100 year old craftsman bungalow. We turned our formal dining room into a family room. The living room became the place for music, no TV and no Legos. If you've ever stepped on one with bare feet you know how important that is. Once our kids were grown our family room became a formal dining room again.

My parents always had a formal living room and dining room for the grown ups while we were growing up. It was always kept neat and tidy for guests. But in our family room/ tv room you could tell children were living there. It might not seem like something you need right now but as you add children to your family you might find that extra “adult” chill space a breath of fresh air. 😊 It’s coming along beautifully!

Honestly, stripping wood work is awful. I know how it feels. I had to strip 140 years worth of paint off my door frames because the layers of paint had taken away the details of the original frames. It took me 4 weeks to do 3 door frames and went through so much chemical stripper. You’re doing way better than me!

This front room is going to be such a beautiful formal dining room! Another thought is that it could continue to serve as a formal (or casual) sitting/living area and the other living space could be more of a playroom once you have kids. The house I grew up in was a new build (bought at a time when land and houses were MUCH cheaper than they are now!) and we technically had three living spaces. One was the "formal" sitting room with a piano (right at the front of the house), one was the more casual living/tv room that was connected to the open-concept dining room and kitchen, and the third was a large playroom in the basement. The house was built with an unfinished basement, but my dad finished it almost entirely by himself, so he was able to create a large space for us kids to make a mess and be kids. Setting aside a space like that is definitely worth thinking about!

The beams look fantastic. It really makes the room special. You were right about them. I think that jar could be for ashes? Maybe not. You could put anything in there. Stone is great for keeping oils fresh etc. I can hardly wait to see the other beams once they are done. The colour choice on the fireplace makes it pop out. You have quite the eye for design. Considering your mother designed several houses its inevitable that this is what you want to do for a living. Maybe one day you can branch out and help others to design their homes.

Hi MaCenna from 🇨🇦. I love your videos, vlogs and especially your design sense! Those patterned rollers are for making your own wallpaper, in a way. You paint it directly on your walls, or any other surface you like.

I feel your pain! I’ve been painting my basement ceiling rafters with leftover ceiling paint. They look like the underside of a beach cottage and great but my body is screaming at me. Thank you for all your inspiration. Your videos motivate me! I have done all sorts of things and have so many power tools now! The next step is installing the LVP flooring. Love ya.

You have truly transformed this room with great work on those beams and arches! Carefully studied to the smallest detail 👌 now that the arches are complete, why do I feel the wall on top of the fireplace needs some trim to match? Then a painting to center the rectangle trim? I guess it’s my imagination 😅 The green stone container might be for tea leaves? But I would use it to store fireplace matches by cutting them to size, or for my colored pencils on my desk maybe.

Hi Macenna, so the stone container is so pretty, you could put personalized tea bags that you can make yourself now that you have that beautiful garden; you put it on your coffee table or coffee/tea bar. I think the stone will keep the flavors and scents strong

My husband is a funeral director and said the green jar is definitely too small to be an urn. He said possibly a keep's sake urn but he's thinking it makes sense for it to be for tea.

I've never seen a cremation urn with a screw-on lid. They are sealed with a special adhesive. They sell these with the screw-on lids for loose tea or spices. Or you can purchase ones where the lid simply sits on top for use in the bathroom or on a dresser.

Its looking so good, but I think I would have done the dining room there NOW and turned the current skinny dinning room into a smaller cozy secondary seating area. All the easier for the future kitchen transition.

My mother had a formal living room and lived in living room, never really used it but when we had gatherings it came in handy to have for extra seating and conversation area. It comes in handy and now we do not have a formal living room in our new home we miss the formal sitting area. But I do understand the vibe you are thinking of with the dining room.. both good ideas I love this home so much ❤
